  1. Whoa, controlling! You definitely made the right decision - what's the point staying with someone like that, you have no idea how much worse he'll get in the years ahead. You deserve someone who will respect you, your feelings, your problems, not minimize and belittle them.
  2. I have colleagues like this - one has a gluten-intolerant mom that's very active in the local celiac community, so he should know better! But he will still happily eat muffins, cakes and burgers at work functions. His symptoms are just feeling "flu-y" - running nose, feeling "sick" but no stomach problems. Another colleague I heard about from someone...
  3. Gosh, I hope not! But I guess I'll try it if I can find a small container of the brand.
  4. Post title should rather be "Can/Would companies add gluten to milk without declaring it on the label?", since I know milk is naturally "gluten free" There is a certain brand of milk that they use at work, that always hurts my stomach and makes me feel ill. At home I always use "Clover", which is a slightly higher quality milk, made by a much bigger...
  5. The panic attacks/anxiety/depression stopped almost immediately It took a few months for the d and nausea to go away, because I kept accidentally getting gluten from seemingly "gluten-free" items, or at restaurants from ignorance/miscommunication. But even then, it was a lot better, usually something like 3 days feeling great, then "oops I got glutened...
  6. Hello and welcome! Boy oh boy, do we share some similar symptoms I also started my severe symptoms this year with panic attacks, nausea, bloating, burping along with the d etc. I couldn't understand why I went from a fairly happy person to a nervous, panicking wreck! One doctor gave me anti-anxiety meds, the other pronounced IBS. Some blood...
  7. Hi there, Do you have the full results? Most blood tests come with a range, for example < 4 is negative, and > 4 is positive. We need the ranges to say whether the results are negative or positive. Did they do a total IgA count as well - that's to check if you have low IgA which would cause a potential "false negative" blood test. Blood tests...
  8. I guess it depends on your metabolism and genes. I didn't gain weight, and I'm actually trying to put on a few KGs to be a bit healthier! I think as long as you eat more healthy foods like veges, fruit, meats, eggs - and less of the very carby substitutions, gluten-free baked goods, you should be fine. I think the danger comes in with eating...
  9. Thanks for all the responses! You guys really encouraged me I do have a diary pre-gluten-free, and it's so funny seeing all the "Oh my word, I feel so sick after eating xyz, I think it might be xyz..." entries, where "xyz" is the latest food I suspected might be killing me. It was always the toppings *on* the pizza/pasta/roll/sandwich, not the...
  10. I'm sure this is something everyone struggles with at some point - you're absolutely gluten free, you're feeling great, and thinking to yourself - maybe it was just some lucky fluke? How is it possible that I can feel so well now, and eating a crumb of gluten makes me so sick? I think this is the longest stretch I've ever been without accidentally really...
  11. Hey there, It could have been a stomach bug - I caught something nasty just after a cruise and had the exact symptoms you're talking about - worst 2 nights of my life, and both times I went to the ER because I was convinced I was dying :/ They also just gave me anti-nausea meds (which didn't help, thanks doc!), and I just had to ride it out. Stomach...
  12. Wow, that's a great description of what I sometimes have! Is the reaction fairly quick for you, or does it only happen a few hours later? I've noticed my reactions vary wildly - it can be the above symptoms, or it can be nausea and stomach pain, or cramping/pain/d. I can even have no symptoms, and then get a nasty outbreak of DH. So don't think you...
  13. Yeah, I'm close to 30 and really struggling with monster zits the last couple of months while I've been gluten-free (and getting accidently glutened now and then). Really, really annoying having pimple breakouts when you're not a teenager... :/
  14. Hi there, My glutenings are completely random - sometimes insane D, sometimes C for a few days followed by D. I always get a headache, tiredness, anxiety, crying over anything though. I think a big hit of wheat seems to "shut down" the whole system, whereas a small dose will damage just enough to get D. Unfortunately one dose of McD won't really...
  15. Hi there, I've got the weirdest issue with certain foods, so I can sympathize!. Like olive oil and olives - wth - they make me feel really ill very quickly? And chicken is instant nausea... but I used a spice with that last time, so I need to double check if the gluten-free spice is actually gluten free... Are you definitely sure it's the cauliflower...
  16. I'd say definitely have him go gluten-free for a few weeks, even if he's just gluten-free at home (and in the car!), and washes his hands (and brushes teeth ) when he gets home if he's eaten outside the house. You'll at least be able to see if it makes a difference, and be able to confirm what's gluten-ing you I guess it depends on your situation....
  17. Kinda pointless asking, but has anyone ever tried this? It's cream cheese in a little package, just plain cream cheese - no extra ingredients etc. But I had quite a significant reaction - was scratching my skin off a few hours afterward, quite a nasty DH rash on my foot, but no GI symptoms. This was the only item that was new in my diet, hadn't eaten...
  18. Did you have margarine on that cracker? Margarine can include vegetable oils which can include soy, which I believe is the devil's food. I used to get intense nausea from nightshades, it has since cleared up - I just have to make sure I keep nightshades to a small amount with each meal, and cook thoroughly. I've found that I feel sick after eating...
  19. Hang in there with the elimination diet, it's so worth it to figure out what foods are still troubling you, and what is safe. I did it the long way round - keeping a food journal and figuring out what upsets my stomach as I see a pattern. Would have been quicker with a diet... I also really dislike the taste of steak, but I looooove mince meat! Probably...
  20. Pretty bad article in general, author really was just whining, wasn't she? If she doesn't like Whole Foods, why does she go there? And yes, I'm sure she can't afford the expensive cereal for her little kiddies, but she should at least be grateful she can eat it without getting sick. Sheesh, non-celiacs get me angry
  21. So my favourite chocolate manufacturer has now started putting "may contain traces of gluten" on all their chocolates. This is Cadbury (South Africa), not sure if it's the same elsewhere? They used to only have this warning on their big slabs of chocolate, but have recently repackaged their smaller chocolates into "mini-slab" like things, and the warning...
  22. I'm sure that's exactly the case - why else would a celiac's intestine continue to not heal after being completely gluten-free? I think some people react to other grains/substances in a inflammatory manner (soy and casein most definitely), but very little research is being done on this. Could refractory disease also be caused by this? I find it extremely...
  23. Hi there and welcome I'd highly recommend keeping a food journal along with your symptoms - you may quickly find which foods cause a worse sore stomach, and which are better for you. Until you are fully healed you might find bland, easily digestable food will be easier on your stomach. For example - I found pears upset my stomach, but then I tried...
  24. Hmmm, I get this crazy itchy scalp. Never really connected it to DH because I don't get the classic rash, and my scalp doesn't really have bumps, it's just itchy like crazy. It's much worse after an accidental glutening, but I am still suffering a bit with it on a strict gluten-free diet - still learning I guess
  25. I sometimes get watery blisters like that - just one or two in an area, sometimes itchy, sometimes not, but always in response to getting some accidental gluten. I think the insane itch is the common ground with everyone, the worst is when it hits at night and you can't sleep for the *itch*! I don't get the widespread rash, I just get bumps like that...
