ARCHIVED Other Food Intolerances Disappearing!
Marz replied to Marz's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I tried soy last week, just a tiny little bit in the form of HVP (Hydrolysed vegetable protein). Oh boy did it make me sick Soy unfortunately still a big problem for me. -
I can't believe it, but whenever I eat some "gluten-free" baked goods made by someone other than myself, I get sick. I've tried Orgran's gluten free biscuits (ready made), muffin mix (Self made, but using their flour mix), "home industry"-type gluten free biscuits (Very simple ingredients, rice flour only), Nature's Source (South African local company...

ARCHIVED Diagnosed Yesterday
Marz replied to xxkristin's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
If you're buying from a store, just look at the label. I think you just have to watch out for the soy sauce, it may contain wheat. If it's from a restaurant, you'll need to ask what's in the sushi, and ask about the soy sauce. I think sushi tastes just fine without the sauce Else you can use Tamari sauce - it should always be made from soy beans, whereas... -
Hi there, Some simple breakfasts I've been living on for the last few months. I also can't tolerate the gluten-free cereals, they're either too contaminated, or they contain some grain that doesn't agree with me. Cooked brown or white rice, and mixed with your own "granola" mix. eg. Shredded coconut, sultanas or raisins, and nuts. You can add...

Hi guys, Just thought I'd share some good news with everyone, maybe give some new forumers some hope that there is light at the end of the tunnel I've been gluten free for about 8 months now, and slowly but surely my other food intolerances have been disappearing. It wasn't immediate, but I found that eating small amounts of the food every now...

ARCHIVED How Many People Are Actually Self-diagnosed?
Marz replied to no-more-muffins's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes it is a serious disease, but so many people who have been tested, and tests came back negative, have found huge relief from symptoms by going gluten free. Sometimes the reaction to gluten is serious enough that they call it "celiac disease" even without the official diagnosis. I agree that it should be taken seriously though - if people don't get properly... -
Yes, yes it could've been the pasta. Symptoms are sometimes delayed by 2 or 3 days while your immune system is building up a response. How long have you been "gluten light" and when is your panel being done? I'm afraid to say that even eating gluten light, the blood tests/biopsy could come back negative Do get them done, but doctors recommend...

ARCHIVED What If No One Else In My Family Is Sick?
Marz replied to sunnyland's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Booya, another gluten survivor Welcome to the forum! Sorry to hear your doctor's been so thick headed, unfortunately it's usually the case for us: doctors haven't helped, tests have come back negative, and we just went gluten free anyway because it gave us significant relief from symptoms. You don't need the celiac label to avoid gluten, though some people... -
Some symptoms are similar, some are distinctive. I get an itchy rash from gluten, DH-like I guess. My other food intolerances usually cause nausea after eating, maybe a sore stomach for 30min or so. And then sometimes d a day or two later - the difference with the d is that I feel fine before/afterwards. Gluten - well the usual stomach problems, sometimes...

ARCHIVED Sore Throat As A First Sign Of Glutening
Marz replied to Marz's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Both my dad and I suffer from post nasal drip. It's become a *lot* better gluten-free. I also used to get that "I'm getting sick" feeling from eating lots of chocolate, but it might have been gluten-containing chocolate, so maybe the dairy + gluten combination was killing me. I used to think the post nasal drip was worse after eating dairy, but now it... -
ARCHIVED Sore Throat As A First Sign Of Glutening
Marz replied to Marz's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yup, have had that feeling before I'm glad I helped solve the mystery for you! The biscuits for me was definitely not pleasant. Times like these I wish I had gluten test strips, so I could check it, and send to them with a big angry letter of complaint. As it is, I'm just guessing, but my gut tells me I'm right Hehe, they aren... -
ARCHIVED Sore Throat As A First Sign Of Glutening
Marz replied to Marz's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I know I'm sensitive to dairy - in that if I eat a lot I'm going to feel a bit ill But if I eat small amounts of no-name brand ice cream I feel fine. It might also be the combination of lots of sugar + dairy, the Gino Ginelli was *very* rich. -
So a few times in the last couple of weeks I've been getting adventurous with my food - trying new brands etc. When something didn't agree with me, the first sign I've noticed is a sore throat, like a mild burning sensation. This happened with : * Gino Ginelli ice cream both times I had it ( Unilever brand, no wheat listed, no gluten warnings, only ...

ARCHIVED I Can't Eat Anything Anymore! I Give Up :(
Marz replied to Kimbalou's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Sorry to hear you have such a restrictive diet One thing that helps me greatly is to keep a food journal - symptoms can hit you a day or two after you've eaten, it's not always the day before. For example, the big d can hit me a few hours after eating something CC'd, but it can also take 3 or 4 days (with maybe constipation leading up to it). Only by... -

ARCHIVED New Info On Rash And Question About Tingles
Marz replied to rain's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Interesting, wonder if he read that somewhere, or it's from his personal experience. In my opinion, the current strict definition of "Dermatitis Herpetiformis" - "water blister like rash covering elbows, knees etc etc" doesn't really cover the wide range of itchy rash that can attack gluten-intolerant people Anyway, about the tingling... Tingling could... -
ARCHIVED Tests Are Negative
Marz replied to possiblyglutensensitive's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hello and welcome I'd say stay on the diet and see how it goes. Do try to stay away from CC as much as you can. What you can do after a few weeks if you're still not sure, is do a gluten challenge - eat plain wheat 3 times a day for a week or two. If the symptoms come back with a vengence (or new ones, like fatigue, d, pain, depression etc), you... -
ARCHIVED All The Celiac People On This Website Had Bad Gi Symptoms
Marz replied to possiblyglutensensitive's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hello Bit of a late reply, but just wanted to add my 2 cents. Your symptoms right now may be mild, but if you could look into the future, say 10 years from now, you may find yourself in a wheelchair, with serious stomach issues, GI cancer, neuropathology, osteoporosis, infertility, or just good old fashioned bad stomach problems. Fortunately... -

ARCHIVED How To Cope With "not Knowing"?
Marz replied to Gluten Glutton's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I asked this question a while ago as well - how to keep on the straight and narrow, knowing that you don't have an official diagnosis. I'm still struggling with it, but I do know I'm feeling so much better there's no turning back. Have you been accidentally glutened since going gluten-free? You could then have some indication of how badly you'd be if... -
Forgot about the skin, the itchy, itchy skin. With or without bumps or rash. Sometimes this is the only symptom I notice, and it persists until I root out the culprit to find relief for my bleeding skin! Bleh!
-
Just my 2 cents - my reactions are very hit and miss. And because I'm reacting to supposedly "gluten free" items, I still am not sure if it's a food intolerance or traces of gluten. We're I've accidently eaten something without checking the warnings, and discovered later the "Could contain traces of gluten" message - I got quite severe symptoms, like...

By the way, an excellent way to cope with a panic attack during the attack, which helps for me, is to laugh at how powerful the mind can be to cause you to feel so crazy! It's just your mind going "Oh crap, get the adrenalin going, there's something scary here that I need to fight or escape from", but without any reason for it. Or even try to make the attack...
-
My sympathies, I also suffer from panic attacks- but usually only after getting accidently glutened. I can't think of any reason why you may suffer from it now while gluten-free, except maybe deficiencies, or other issues. Are you stressed out in general? If you're experiencing a high anxiety level, you may get panic attacks for no reason, even when...
