  1. Yes, I should have mentioned that. Although....even if you do you can still get nabbed at customs. Last year dd and I went to Paris, and we brought several tangerines to eat on the plane coming home. We ate them an hour or so before we landed at Dulles. So there we were in the customs line and I looked down and there was a cute little beagle sitting at...
  2. I recently flew to Israel and on the plane I took: -- hard boiled eggs -- those individual size containers of peanut butter -- they're small enough to go right in your ziplock bag. -- nuts -- glutino cereal bars (the closest I've found to a regular Nutrigrain bar) -- other nut bars -- a banana -- a couple of apples -- candy -- several individual...
  3. Yes, grits themselves are kind of bland. That's what all that fattening butter or cheese, and salt is for. Isn't that the way it usually is? All the good-tasting stuff isn't particularly good for us. edited to add that if I ever get high blood pressure I'm going to be in big trouble. I sure do love my salt.
  4. Lol at the bumper sticker. And I guess technically I do live in the south since Virginia is a southern state. Even if Northern VA is like a state unto itself. ymmmmmmmmm garlic cheese grits! {putting pork on my next grocery list}
  5. The Silver Diner, in northern VA. Not sure if it's a chain or not. But they've recently added a couple of gluten-free items (such as Van's waffles) and labeled others as Gluten-free (grits, for example). I talked to the manager who assured me that the eggs are cooked only on the egg griddle, and the bacon is cooked in the oven in the bacon pan. So far I...
  6. I went out to eat this morning with a friend and had... two eggs over easy, bacon, and grits. Am I in a rut or what?
  7. You could always just make it up and say the doctor diagnosed you. They'd never know and you'd have the doctor's "authority" behind your diet.
  8. It sounds more like maybe it's the soy. I know La Choy is listed as gluten-free and that's the only kind I eat, with no problems at all. And I'm becoming increasingly sensitive to even small amounts of gluten which is why I'm sure about La Choy. Just ate a stir fry last night and woke up feeling fine this morning. I hope you find the culprit. It is...
  9. Turning into a southerner here... Just had it *again* this morning. Now, I do need to branch out because I don't think two eggs and a couple strips of bacon every single morning is good for me.
  10. Some of you might remember my "hope I don't offend you southerners" post of a week or so ago, about eating grits. Well I learned a lot in that thread, lol. So this morning I made my grits, and fried up two pieces of bacon and two eggs over easy. Broke up the bacon, put it and the eggs in with the grits, "mooshed" (I think that was the word) it all around...
  11. I would never try regular beer, but I do miss it. However, I just bought some Redbridge and like it well enough. Personally I don't usually drink beer in the middle of the winter but I wanted to try this Redbridge. I'm thinking that cold from the fridge in the middle of the summer when it's 100 degrees outside it will taste pretty good. lol.. Now that...
  12. Yeah, true. I guess it's just the picture I have in my mind of my local Dunkin Donuts -- all the donuts sitting in the cases right near the coffee pot, with the employees always reaching in to take out some donuts, waving them around near the coffee... Makes me get a headache and cramps just thinking about it. lol.. But at my Starbucks the case with...
  13. Personally I would worry about anything made at a place that has "donuts" in it's name! I do get coffee at Starbucks with no problem, but that's all they do there. (I know they sell baked goods, but the baking isn't done there. At least not at mine.) It's the same reason I'm leery of getting gluten-free pizza at one of my local places. Yes, that crust...
  14. That's a good tip, I'll remember that. I bought my Chebe online so it comes out to about $2.50 per package which isn't bad. I have yet to venture into any of the Asian or other international markets we have around here, but I really need to do that!
  15. No, That's the cost for a case, eight packs. It's slightly cheaper on Amazon.
  16. Rachel, I had to order it on Amazon since there was no where near me that sold it. And, by ordering it like that I had to order a case -- eight packs of mix, I think. I hated to order that many without ever tasting it ahead of time, but based on all the rave reviews I decided I'd try it. SO glad I did.
  17. This was my first holiday season since going gluten free, so I was just wondering who else was the same and how it went for you. And, even if it wasn't your first how did it go? I'm lucky because I'm the cook for both Thanksgiving and Christmas, and we don't have family here at all. So for Thanksgiving it was just the four of us, and for Christmas it...
  18. Move over Udi's, I've just made my first batch of Chebe. I made the regular rolls, the little round ones. omg... {faint} -- they're crusty and chewy and soft in the middle, just what I've missed in bread. I had to keep myself from eating them all at once because I want to save some for lunch. I'm going to put some butter and cheese on them, one of my favorite...
  19. Adding fried grits, and grits cooked with some cream, to my recipe folder.
  20. Funny you posted this just now because I've been thinking the same thing! My family always visits my parents after Christmas and my dad always has several boxes of different kinds of candy. I check the ingredients and didn't see anything suspect, but it has to be the reason I've been feeling bad. I know it can't be anything else because I've eaten only at...
  21. Off to check Facebook now. Thanks!
  22. Taking lunch is definitely a challenge in the beginning, but doable. Some ideas: (assuming no other food intolerances, and do you have a microwave at school?) -- a big salad, with some sort of protein -- chicken, or ham. -- hard boiled eggs -- peanut butter and jelly on Udi's bread -- leftovers from dinner -- frozen entrees every once in awhile...
  23. They are definitely gluten-free, but they do have soy in them. Sorry.
  24. hmmm.... this sounds VERY unhealthy. And VERY yummy! I might have to add that to my list, to try once at least. I mean, I'll have the bacon grease from the bacon/egg/grits recipe. So I wouldn't want it to go to waste, would I?
  25. The brand is "Food Should Taste Good" and I found the multigrain ones at Costco. They're in a bag like chips but they seem more "crackery" to me and I've been putting cheese on them like I did crackers before celiac. They are SO yummy! Now I've just googled the company and discovered that they make many varieties, including a chocolate one! o.m.g.......
