  1. Yes, Rudi's here in Northern Virginia. At the Pentagon City Costco, specifically. Frozen. I like it a bit better than Udi's because it seems more substantial. However, I only toast it to have with my coffee in the morning. I've never tried it on sandwiches. I've given up on sandwiches and just eat corn tortillas as roll-ups. And, Against the Grain...
  2. What pasta is the best for a baked pasta dish? I just made a mock lasagna using Boles corn pasta. Um, no. The pasta got mushy. I'll end up eating the chewy baked cheese off the top and throwing the rest away. Can anyone recommend one that works better?
  3. I have no idea about that, but to be honest the idea of buying meat from Walmart makes me Sorry, that's probably a prejudice on my part. But my Target also just added a large food section and I cannot imagine ever buying any meat or fish from them. ick. Up until recently their "specialty" has been clothes, household things, electronics, etc...
  4. Here are the wafers I mentioned in my post, the ones we use at my church on Sundays when we go up front to receive. They're made by Ener-G. I hope I'm allowed to put a link here. Not sure about that, so if it gets deleted just google "gluten free communion wafers" and look for Ener-G. Open Original Shared Link
  5. Good thread, thanks! I've never in my life made gravy. Last holiday season (my first as a gluten free person) I just bought my usual jarred gravy for the family, and found one that was gluten free for me. Yeah, I know, jarred gravy.... But, I hate to cook, and I don't know how to cook! lol... However, it sounds easy enough to do by using chicken or beef...
  6. I don't know what size your church is but for smaller ones I think it's easier. My church has communion once a month, either on trays that are passed through the pews, or by intinction where we go up front and tear off a piece of bread and dip it in the juice. So on Sundays when we do intinction there are gluten-free wafers for me (since we know that gluten...
  7. After reading that ingredient list I'm not sure I want a Slurpee. However...they sure do taste good on a really hot day. Which is the only kind of day we've been having lately.
  8. Against the Grain baguettes!! omg, they taste almost like what I remember a gluten one tasting like. They are SO yummy. At my WF they're in the frozen bread section. I can't buy this anywhere else in town. -- Also Glutino crackers. I love these because they are almost like regular Ritz-type crackers, not the slippery rice cracker texture. I can buy these...
  9. It's been about 182 degrees for what seems like months and months, at least where I live. Nothing tastes quite like that gin and tonic when it's hot.
  10. Yeah, I know I could do that. But I'm feeding a teenage boy and he can eat more than anyone I know (except his friends, of course, lol). Gluten free pasta is so expensive. The way he eats I prefer to give him the Barilla which I buy when it's on sale $1.00/box. lol.
  11. Not sure if these have been there all along, but I've just noticed them. lol.. They're "cooked brown rice bowls", ingredients "organic brown rice, water". I bought them initially to take for lunches, or when we have church events, etc. But last night I was in a hurry for dinner and I made my home made "hamburger helper" for the family -- cooked noodles mixed...
  12. I agree that your husband should have told his mother about your diet needs long before you got there. And I agree that she was probably taken aback by suddenly having to deal with it. BUT! -- I totally disagree with how she responded. I was having a flashback to my MIL and the very first time we visited her after we'd had our first child. He was maybe...
  13. I also don't understand how a burger could taste "too good" to be gluten free. I make burgers all the time and have never put anything gluteny in them. Now if you mean the bun, could be. Personally I don't think you can sue for something like that. I'm sure there's a disclaimer somewhere on the menu. I might call the restaurant and talk to them, but that...
  14. One thing about the Lactaid milk -- I found it to be too sweet. I forget why that is...someone did explain it to me, but I can't remember. But I just couldn't drink it, even on cereal. So now I use regular skim milk and take a Lactaid pill as soon as I start eating. This works well, as long as I don't have too much milk at once. 3/4-1 cup is my limit...
  15. Yep, this. I will look forward to testing the mosquito thing. That would be wonderful, because we have some nasty ones around here.
  16. I did. But for me it's the lactose not the casein. So I can have yogurt and cheese with no problem. I've discovered that I can have about 3/4 cup of milk if I take a Lactaid pill. So I still have that once in awhile on my cereal. You might try that before you give it up entirely.
  17. My Costco doesn't have Udi's but they do carry Rudi's, frozen. Two loaves for $6.00 and something -- $6.89 maybe? -- which makes each one about as expensive as a loaf of regular bread! I was so thrilled when I discovered that!
  18. Well... everyone has their faults. ;)
  19. Omg, I wish I lived in Calgary! lol... Even though I live in a large metropolitan area (Northern VA/Washington DC) to my knowledge we have no exclusively gluten free bakeries or anything. Lots of options to buy gluten free things, but nothing that's 100%.
  20. Well... my blood work was "inconclusive". ha! By the time I got those results I had already gone gluten free because my doctor said that's what it sounded like. She told me that if I wanted conclusive proof I would have to have an endoscopy which would mean continuing on gluten. I was so miserable that I said I was just going to try the diet. Omg... 100...
  21. I am serious when I say that this entire diet is a piece of cake compared to what I think it would be like to have to give up coffee! Now of course, if there was a true medical reason why I had to give it up I would. But... omg. I feel for you. I'm glad you can still drink tea, but no it isn't quite the same thing.
  22. Lol.. I looked at all the gluten free stuff and there are some cute ones. One says "gluten is icky". lol.. But one I don't understand -- it says "Celiac is the medical term for starvation." Personally I don't feel like I'm starving on this diet. Unless, do they mean that when you're undiagnosed your body is not absorbing nutrients like it should? Hopefully...
  23. Also, if you have a Costco near you I recently found a two-pack of Rudi's bread in the freezer section for $6.00 and something ($6.49 I think). The slices are slightly larger than Udi's, and at that price it makes each loaf the same as a load of regular bread. And it tastes good too! (although I've only toasted it or made grilled cheese sandwiches.) Also...
  24. 1. corn -- You can eat corn. Unless you happen to be allergic/reactive to it, which has nothing to do with celiac. Corn tortillas with melted cheese are one of my standby meals. They also make a sort-of pizza -- sauce, cheese, pepperoni... 2. oats -- as people have already said, regular oats are contaminated. Some people even react to the certified...
  25. These responses tell you why I will never EVER go for the endoscopy, since my doctor told me I'd have to eat gluten every single day for a couple of MONTHS! I don't need a biopsy to tell me what I already know. (mine would be the body aches, migraine, diarrhea reaction)
