    ARCHIVED Snacks

    Ick, I remember those pregnancy mornings. -- Try some peanut butter, or other nut butter. If it doesn't appeal to you on toast then maybe just take a spoonful of it and eat it very slowly. I happen to love peanut butter like that, but it might not appeal to some. -- Also, what about making some sort of breakfast casserole thing, or a quiche, or some other...
  2. I agree about the premade cereal bars. They have a funny aftertaste. My ds ate them, but then again he's a teenage boy and will eat anything that isn't moving. lol.. But I thought they were icky. I'm going to make my own pretty soon. yummmm....
  3. Yes! It says "Gluten Free!" in huge letters right at the top. Your store probably has old boxes. I bought mine at Target so maybe Giant is still behind the times.
  4. I can't wait to make some cereal bars with them also! woot! And you know what else I love? The fact that celiac/gluten intolerant kids can have a sweet mainline cereal that they can eat. Nice for their parents wallet, and so nice for them to feel "normal".
  5. :wub: :wub: My first since they've officially labeled the box gluten free. :wub: :wub:
  6. Back from store with two four-packs. Regular creme eggs show no gluten ingredients listed. Allergy info says "manufactured in a facility that also processes peanuts/tree nuts." Caramel ones also have no gluten ingredients listed and the allergy info says: "manufactured on the same equipment that processes eggs" and "manufactured in a facility...
  7. I just did a search and apparently the Creme and Caramel ones are. -- woot! -- I'm heading to the grocery store now, and just came back to the board for a second before leaving. I'm glad I did. {adds to grocery list}
  8. Flourless chocolate dome with berries???? omg... {adding to my list}
  9. I've never eaten PF Changs but have read here how it's great for gluten free. When my family wants Chinese we've just been ordering from our regular place and I just eat something else, since our regular place delivers and PF Changs doesn't. But, lately I've been craving fried rice, so we ordered from PF Changs and ds drove over to get it. (we learned they...
  10. If I were you I would call every one of those places and ask specifically about gluten-free, so your dd can be prepared on what to order when she gets there. The only one of those places I've eaten at is Pentagon City mall. The last time I was there I got a Subway salad -- basically a sub but in a salad bowl. I didn't have any problems with it although I...
  11. This is interesting to me because I know several people who are truly celiac/gluten intolerant (as opposed to the "fad" diet people) and everyone has some sort of physical reaction. I think this diet must be MUCH harder for those of you with no physical reactions! For the OP -- I did think like this in the beginning. But now I don't because I know how...
  12. Not always, no. But for me it does because I've never had any problem with lactose. I used to drink at least three glasses of milk every day, plus have it on cereal in the morning. Lots of ice cream in the summer. Never any stomach/intestinal problems at all. Until the gluten-intolerance. So for me, that's the cause. At least for now. Who knows if I'll...
  13. I haven't had a biopsy either because I refuse to put myself through six weeks (or more!) of the misery that would come from eating gluten for the gluten challenge. But -- in the absence of medical "results" I just go by how I feel. Milk/ice cream without lactaid = feeling awful. Milk/ice cream plus lactaid = feeling fine. Same with gluten, even without...
  14. Cheese and yogurt are not high in lactose but ice cream is. The little villi things in your intestines are where lactase "lives" (lactase is the enzyme that breaks down lactose). So when the villi are damaged by gluten you won't have any, or enough, lactase. So lactose will make you sick. Many people can go back to eating lactose after they heal from the...
  15. I'm also not really an old-timer although I've been on the diet long enough to see great things! I'm one of the lucky ones who didn't have to wait years and years, through mis-diagnoses, etc. My acute symptoms came on suddenly (although I subsequently learned that I'd had other symptoms caused by gluten for years), following a bad strep/flu thing. My doctor...
  16. Yeah, I don't trust Lays. Next time you want a chip try Utz brand. It says right under the ingredients list "this is a gluten free food." Hope you feel better soon.
  17. Chewy crusty hot bread. sigh... Other than that, add me to the "convenience" list. I really hate to cook, and have never baked from scratch in my life. I made quiche the other day and made my crust from gluten-free Bisquick. Just Bisquick, shortening, and water. But it was more effort than I'm used to putting in for crust. I used to buy the frozen...
  18. The other threads about "cheating" got me to thinking about willpower. Since I've been on Weight Watchers on and off for a couple of years I would say that I do NOT have good willpower. For me dieting is hard. I really want that Snickers bar in the afternoon, or a second glass of wine, and I always tell myself that "I'll exercise extra tomorrow to work it...
  19. Is this the stuff they call "banana smoothie"? hahahahahahahahahaha -- ahem, sorry. Banana smoothie it was not! But -- if it's the same stuff it really wasn't too bad. I had to drink two bottles of it --smaller bottles, like the size of a single-serving juice or something like that. This was for a CT scan. If that's the same thing, then it's not awful....
  20. I think that "may contain gluten" thing is because of possible CC from machinery. At least that's my understanding. If the ingredients said 100% corn I would have eaten it.
  21. Most important would be to have your own stuff, even if you have to keep some of it in your bedroom. Things like a cutting board, frying pan, thing to drain pasta (what the heck is that called? lol...), toaster, etc. Things that will have gluten stuck on them if used for gluteny things. You wouldn't have to worry about plates, silverware, etc., as long as...
  22. All food, except wheat (and its cousins), barley, and rye, is naturally gluten free. So if you don't buy processed foods you should have no trouble cooking yummy meals that are gluten free. Now, if you're like me and hate to cook it could be a problem. But seriously, cooking from scratch is the way to go, and anything gluteny has a substitute...
  23. I have one to add to this thread. I have a friend who has narcolepsy. She also has had IBS for awhile, but I didn't realize that since I've only known her for a few years. I do remember she'd mention the IBS from time to time, once saying that she couldn't eat fruit because of it. But recently she had been having pretty bad stomach pains, and had...
  24. VERY yummy! Especially the pumpkin tart thing -- it was in pie crust and looked like it had been made in a muffin tin -- so they were like individual pumpkin pies. The crust was very good! -- Yeah, I pretty much ate it all in a short time. Hmm... come to think of it, maybe it's a good thing there isn't a gluten free bakery back home.
  25. I'm visiting my parents in Pittsburgh. I took my mom to the doctor the other day and was just chatting with the doctor how it was my mom's birthday and I was making a gluten free cake so I could eat it too. He said "oh, then you probably know about the bakery in Squirrel Hill?" I said "um, what bakery?" The new gluten free bakery! Woot! I went in...
