  1. I found these sites to be a little useful (not as useful as here) but they did start me down the path of arming myself with knowledge enough to figure out my problems without the doctor. The writer is in the UK and if you sign up, she sends fact sheets and interesting recipe's each week. The last one you can write comments and has topics relevant to your...
  2. I'm getting testing for Ttg this week and have been gluten free for about 6 weeks, the doctor said I wouldn't have to eat gluten (not much else). Seeing this post makes me think I do need to eat something just to "top up" the levels so I don't get a false negative. What do you reckon?
  3. Try a can o' Red Bull, sometimes it can negate the brain effects and it is gluten free. Can't promise anything though because everyone is different.
  4. Absolutely you are NOT crazy, it's the gluten talking and giving you all those things. I have found that without gluten I do not freak out when my fiancee doesn't call, or when he decides to stay after work for a couple drinks with his friends (within reason). Gluten free I have an optimistic attitude and am very positive. When I do get glutened, I have...
  5. Hello.

Quick question, as it seems you've got this gluten thing down pretty good...

Have you found your cure? Can you share one of your most important tips regarding gluten consumption related to symptoms of gas, increase in # of stools/day, etc or two?

    Please excuse the informality. :)

  6. In a word: AGREED.
  7. I am so sorry to hear that she is having such a hard time with it. I don't have children of my own, but I do work in a childcare center. There are 4 children who have specific dietary needs- one with celiac. At snack and lunch time, they become a little subdued and get that sad look in their eyes. As they are younger than your daughter and have lived...
  8. It seems to be different every time for me and how the cross contamination occured or if it outright my own fault. Randomly being sick after eating- I used to think I was preggers and get paranoid about that for a while because of the vomiting (and irregular periods did NOT help with that paranoia). Stomach pain, depression, anxiety, constipation and diarrhea...
  9. I get blessed as we used to before partaking in the first communion.
  10. I went gluten free because I ran out of pasta and bread (I ran out of student loans), so I had to eat the rice and potatoes I'd been ignoring. A week of that and things that I didn't even realize were there, disappeared. "Something" lifted and freed me, I still don't have words to describe it. I also stopped taking crash naps on the couch after work, became...

    ARCHIVED Walk-In Clinic Doctor

So if that last item, the tissue transglutaminase test is to do with gluten antibodies- shouldn't I be eating gluten before I do the test? It's only been 6 weeks and I've accidently glutened myself at least once a week since doing it (and once on purpose- food courts and dizzy hungry BAD combo). I get to make an appointment with the lab to get them done...

    ARCHIVED Walk-In Clinic Doctor

Alright. I finally went to the walk-in clinic doctor about my gluten free discovery, hoping he'd do a test to formally diagnose Celiac. He just said, "so there are no more symptoms now that you don't eat gluten? Great, keep doing that." He gave me a sheet to go get tested at a lab for a whole list of things but never explained why he was testing for...
  13. I'm new to it too, so I'm not sure on potluck parties and how not to appear rude to people. I know just having a hotdog or hamburger without the bun is a bad idea. The people handling the food will not have a great chance of washing their hands between assembling a full hotdog and preparing yours. Also the grill may have been subject to toasting buns and...
  14. Yep. Just recently. My periods are apparently being regular now that I'm actually getting nutrition in me. So, when the PMS started just 3 weeks after my last period (which was extremely light), I started my usual baby paranoia all over again when the breasts started hurting, head spinning, mood swings, craving random food etc. Nope, AF a week earlier than...
  15. Mine seems to vary every time with the specifics but generally, stomach cramps, anxiety, depression, lethargy, bloatedness, joint pain, muscle weakness. I almost always feel like pooo and hate myself and just sit like a lump staring mindlessly at the telly. Once I figured it would be best to just end it all- i didn't act on it but that was scary. I gave...
  16. You may have to travel to the inlaws town but you don't have to force yourself to stay at their house. There are always hotels and if your husband doesn't want to stay in a hotel then he can stay at the poisoner's lair and you can have an awesome time with your son in a room elsewhere. I would also give them as much literature as possible because "knowing...
  17. I'm 5'3" about an inch taller than my mom. My dad is 6'2" both my brothers the same as him and my sisters are 5'6".
  18. It's claimed against the taxes as a medical expense and as the others have said, it's incremental and likely a real pain. You also need to have a written diagnosis from your doctor to prove you are celiac. If you are simply a non celiac gluten intolerant then you're out of luck. So, if you have a tax refund it will be issued as part of that, if you owe...
  19. My parents live in Evansburg, so when I go to visit, I know we can go out to eat. Hurrah!!!! Thanks for the tip! (The only other BP I've been in after going gluten free and ate a salad at sent it with a giant wedge of garlic toast sitting on top.... I don't trust that location anymore.)
  20. One of my co-workers is Celiac and allergic to wheat. We cannot make playdoh in the room because she'll have major issues and need to go to the hospital, and that's just from some of the flour sneezed on by a child and the flour poofs everywhere. She can't clean up after the playdough. If we do paper mache it has to be mixed elsewhere then brought in and...
  21. Yep, the fun neuro reaction. For the past few years I've been getting extremely anxious, and basically freak out when I'm surrounded by too many people (like in a mall, a packed bus etc) then I skip the gluten and somehow, I'm quite fine being on a packed bus and enjoy going to the mall again and I LIKE people. The last time I ate wings that were deep fried...
  22. I have had trouble with my food intake for the past year and a half. My stomach always twinged, cramped or was outright painful after eating. After trying to eliminate dairy with little success, processed food with little success and just ignoring it. I finally ran out of pasta and bread at the beginning of June and as a student I had no money to buy more...
  23. I use bentonite clay- the liquid one that you mix with water. It's got strong magnetic properties and your body doesn't absorb it, so it goes straight through pulling all the toxins from the bowels as it goes. It doesn't fix the symptoms but it gets the gluten out much faster making the symptoms go away faster. I haven't used it for diarrhea and nausea...
  24. I'm guess that a standard bowl and electric mixer will do the trick. The only real difference with a stand mixer is that you don't have to hold it and it may have more power.
  25. I went on a bike trip once. Three weeks long and about 70 km per day (about 40 miles a day). This was 3 years ago (I've only discovered gluten free heaven in the past month). I had a snack mix bag full of peanuts, raisins, dried cranberries and other goodies found in the bulk food bins. I can only imagine the horror of going in that store now and wondering...
