  1. This thread totally made my night. I would love a gluten free city.
  2. Wish I'd joined this board weeks ago. I'm in East Peoria, but I move to Nebraska in a couple weeks. I tend to go dancing in Urbana, so I'm down there usually at least 2x a month. I'm not male, but I'm semi-nearby.
  3. I'm almost dead certain that my mother has gluten intolerance, but she's too set in her ways. I was just recently self-diagnosed, and all of her symptoms match up to what other people seem to have, but she doesn't consider them symptoms of anything, it's all normal for her. It also wasn't until I diagnosed myself that two of my cousins began suspecting...
  4. "Evil sons of biscuits" is starting to sound like a worse insult than the original line. Thank you for the unintentional amusement, Magpie.
  5. Some people have had fairly good experience with a place called Enterolab. Some other people don't think they're worth it. It's a stool sample test instead of a needle prick, so it could be a viable option for your sister. You can do a genetic cheek swab with Enterolab, too.
  6. I'm moving to within 3 hours of KC in 2.5 weeks! If I ever can save up enough money, I will travel for beer. Maybe we can go drinking.
  7. I'm going to agree with everyone saying the social aspect. Twice now (in the 5 weeks I've suspected gluten) I've been invited to places that don't offer ANY gluten free options. It's hella frustrating, and makes me feel bad, especially because the host of the first one felt horrible for picking the pizza place. She didn't know my intolerance because I...
  8. Zizzle: I hope your numbers go down quickly. So I've got new discoveries...I had a very distinct reaction to some chocolate milk today. (okay, it was more than some...a full quart, which is not unusual for me) However, before I got even halfway through, I started feeling my stomach turn. The milk wasn't spoiled or anything, it tasted great, hence...
  9. Good luck! You seem to have a good idea now of what you want to do. That's awesome, keep it up!
  10. Where can I find Green's and/or Bard's Tale? I've tried Red Bridge, but I find it too close to what I call "American Pisswater" since in my latter years I was raised by beer snobby Morris Dancers. I heard from a cousin of mine that Bard's Tale is good, but I don't know where to find it. (He's not gluten-free, he just liked the name.) I'm in Central Illinois...
  11. I had a very specific trigger. Up until November 2008 I could eat whatever I wanted, when I wanted with no symptoms whatsoever, unless you count the fact that I've never liked the taste of whole grain or rye breads. I found out that month that I'm asymptomatic for Urinary Tract Infections, and it seems like every time I get one it's the super-bacteria....
  12. During my symptomatic-glutenous days, I used to get HORRIBLE cramping and abdominal pain during my periods. Curled up in the fetal position against the wall in the back room when I worked at Panera is NOT on my list of things to repeat. My doc even switched my birth control because of it. It helped for the most part, but I still got episodes every so...
  13. With your current job, had you already been working there before you were diagnosed? I'm finding that people I've never met or don't know well will just accept that I have an "allergy" and move on, especially with our culture today where a lot of people have weird food allergies. People who've known me pre-symptoms start over-thinking the, "But you ate...
  14. I think I've gotten lucky to have such wonderful experiences so early on. Hopefully it's a sign that times are changing and CC is on its merry way to becoming a thing of the past, even though that day probably won't be in any of our lifetimes...but we can hope. I finally broke the news about being gluten free to my parents about three weeks ago, myself...
  15. I don't know a lot of real specifics, but my cousin called me the other day very concerned about her son, and I'm hoping to make sure what I told her was right, as well as see if there's anything else I should add. Her youngest son is (I think) just over a year old. Her other son is seemingly normal. I may have a couple events in the time line in the...
  16. I first read this thread a couple days ago and asked friends of mine who used to work at Wendy's. It seems like this isn't a store-specific problem. They confirmed that it was commonplace to use the meat from unused burgers and add it to the chili. I don't think I'll be able to trust any fast food for a while, or at least not Wendy's.
  17. I very much so wish you could fire your doctor. I'm just now going through very similar things as you are, even though I'm only 24. My first post on this forum was actually titled, "Is it all in my head?" because I felt like I couldn't have something serious like this, but all the symptoms pointed to it, and I was finally ready to listen. Let me assure...
  18. After taking so long to recover this past week, I don't think there's any way in hell I'd be able to do a gluten challenge for a whole month, so I'm pretty much sitting at Self-diagnosed. Also, I discovered while visiting my parents this week that I'm not going to be able to get on their insurance 'till January, and by then I *should* be done with any elimination...
  19. Ambidextrous. I use my right hand for more delicate things (writing, handsewing, etc) but I can still do them with my left hand, it's just a lot slower. My left hand has always been stronger, and I'm left-eye dominant, so I'll shoot a gun left handed. I think I was also a lefty trained to be a righty, 'cause my parents are both righty's, and I am a mimic...

    ARCHIVED Itching

All research I keep doing on DH lists big, red blister-type bumps, but this thread mentioned tiny flesh-colored, but extremely itchy bumps. I noticed these "rough patches" a long while back (can't remember when). I've been gluten free for just over a week now, and I'm having a hard time finding them, when they used to be just always there. Could this have...

    ARCHIVED Denny's?

Has anyone had CC issues with Denny's? They're the only thing here open late at night that's not Steak & Shake, and have a full 24 hour breakfast menu, so it's easier to avoid the toast and pancakes.
  22. When I was working there, before I found out about all this, the BBQ Chicken Salad and the Black Bean Soup were my hands down favorites. I guess even my taste buds knew what I should be eating.
  23. Thank you, thank you, a million times thank you. Every time I log in here, the fear subsides a little bit more, and all of you are to thank for that. I've officially been gluten free for another week now. (did a week off, week on, and now I've been back off) I'm suspicious of eggs now, (egg free since July 1) but really hoping it was just a longer...
  24. Skittles. I was looking for a sweet treat just after I realized my intolerance, and I discovered the wonderfulness of Skittles. (Starburst, too, but I like Skittles better) It says "Gluten Free" on the label, though I don't know the risk for CC.
  25. My friend pulled a fast one on the guests at my birthday party last week. She used the Betty Crocker gluten-free cake mixes for two cakes, one yellow, one chocolate. The chocolate was actually the brownie mix. For the yellow one, she added some Diet Mountain Dew for a little citrus flavor and put cherries on top. The brownie was just a 2-layer brownie...
