ARCHIVED Gluten Free Chewing Gum?
Cheryl-C replied to alucard4545's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Just to add: I found a brand of gum at my local Coles' bookstore that is labelled dairy-free, nut-free, gluten-free, and aspertame-free. (Aspertame-free! So awesome!) It's called "Pur" and has a lone overtop of the u - I don't know how to show that on here, sorry. Anyway it's pretty tasty, and it was nice to lose the aspertame. Check it out! -
ARCHIVED Making Granola - Sub For Oats?
Cheryl-C replied to Cheryl-C's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Thanks everyone for your suggestions! Next week I'm going to try to make some granola - and if anything turns out, I'll be sure to post here. GlutenFreeManna - I LOVE Bakery on Main! They're my go-to for "purse food." I like the idea of corn flakes - I actually have some kicking around, I think, from some other culinary attempt. Hmmm. Mizzo, I may also... -
ARCHIVED Making Granola - Sub For Oats?
Cheryl-C posted a topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Hey folks, I found some great homemade granola recipes, but would like to find a sub for oats. I haven't been brave enough to try the gluten-free oats, so as an "in case," what are my options? The first thing that came to mind was amaranth flakes, but I'd like some input. Thanks! -
ARCHIVED Breyer's Ice Cream
Cheryl-C replied to jebby's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I don't have trouble with Breyer's, but I ended up switching to Chapman's anyway because they label them directly as GLUTEN-FREE, which makes me feel better. I'm sorry you're having a tough time! If you don't have trouble digesting dairy normally, maybe it's the type of ice cream itself, like in the flavour that's causing you issues? -
My BF and I were out today and got hungry - we decided to try Milestones, since someone recently mentioned to us that Milestones has a gluten-free menu. We went over and I checked out the menu before we went inside. I was a bit "meh" at first, since it had maybe 5 things on it ... but then I saw the word HAMBURGER and I was too tempted to resist. We almost...

ARCHIVED Looking For Yogurt
Cheryl-C posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I get to spend the next week on antibiotics (fun!) and I'm trying to avoid the nasty effects by adding some probiotic yogurt. Someone told me about a Greek yogurt, I think it's called something like Otteri or Otari or something? I tried to google but got nowhere. Does anyone know the brand I'm talking about, or have a line on something else? Cheers! -
ARCHIVED Kellogg's Gluten Free Rice Krispies
Cheryl-C replied to cdmom1's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I would love to make RC squares ... what marshmallows are safe? -
ARCHIVED Response From Burt's Bees
Cheryl-C replied to ECUmom3's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I use Burt's Bees all the time, and I don't think I've been having any issues ... interesting. Maybe I will switch to something else for a while - is plain, regular, petroleum vaseline ok??? -
ARCHIVED Glutino Lemon Wafer Cookies
Cheryl-C replied to Diane-in-FL's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I like the chocolate-covered Glutino wafter ones ... I don't buy them anymore! ROFL I can't afford the expanding waistline! -
How can they list certain blizzard toppings as "gluten-free" if they are mixed in with all the ones that aren't?! That's insane! I was all excited until I read the part about them being used by the same machine - never mind. I won't risk it. A cool, minty treat is not worth the pain and suffering after. However, I'm going to check around my neighbourhood...

ARCHIVED How Do You Ensure No Cross Contamination At Restaurants?
Cheryl-C replied to danzn16's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
There is no way to 100% guarantee against CC. It sucks, but there it is. When you go to a restaurant, you are relying on the server/manager to properly relay the information to the people in the kitchen, and then relying on the people in the kitchen not to screw it up. No matter which way you cut it, you're taking a risk. That said, if you follow the basic... -
It's hard at first to cut out the different things you used to eat, but you'll find that (in a lot of cases) there are substitutes that are just as good, if not better. One word of warning though: if you've been gluten-free for only a couple of weeks, I'd steer clear of things like pizza. Your body is going through a healing process, and the more "whole...

ARCHIVED Protein Drink And Help With Weight Gain
Cheryl-C replied to BeckyW's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Does Boost have one only one chocolate flavour? Or is there chocolate and chocolate malt? I used to drink them all the time because of my busy/weird schedule, and now and then they'd still be a help. The chocolate was the only one I ever liked though. -
ARCHIVED Piller's Allergy Information
Cheryl-C posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hey everyone, I recently checked out the allergy info for Piller's meat, and thought I would share the link with you. The website shows which foods are free of which allergens - milk, MSG, soya, sulphites, and wheat & gluten. I can't wait to get some smoked turkey breast! Open Original Shared Link -
I too have endometriosis. I've had 3 surgeries in 8 years. My painful periods began in high school (around 14 or so) and have worsened steadily since then. I tested "inconclusive" for celiac because I stopped eating gluten before the test (I don't know if my Dr didn't tell me or if I just didn't understand...ugh) and I'm not going back on gluten to redo it...

ARCHIVED Pc Whole-Grain Dijon?
Cheryl-C replied to Cheryl-C's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thanks for the input you two. I didn't make it to the family party as I got glutened yesterday (my own fault, really) but it's good to know for the future. Northern Elf - I've had the same experience with other PC items. You have to call with the code number, and even then it's kind of vague. It's too bad, because before I went gluten-free, I really... -
ARCHIVED Pc Whole-Grain Dijon?
Cheryl-C posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hi folks, Need a quick answer here! Does anyone know if PC whole grain dijon mustard is gluten-free? I couldn't find any info on it that was definite, and as it's not my mustard (it's my aunt's, we have a family dinner on Sunday) they called to check. They read the ingredients, and everything sounded ok except the "natural flavours." Can anyone say... -
ARCHIVED Eat For Life
Cheryl-C replied to imisskitkats's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
If you mean Food For Life, aren't they the ones with the barley water issue in their tortillas?? As for Enjoy Life, I sometimes eat their cereal bars but find them heavy. Eating one feels like eating 5. I pass, unless I'm out of other options. (Bakery on Main cereal bars are awesome!) -
ARCHIVED So What Was The Verdict On Rice Chex?
Cheryl-C replied to jasonD2's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I eat corn chex and honey nut chex all the time. In fact, there's a box of honey nut chex sitting on the floor next to my desk right now - it's one of my favourite snack foods. That said, the rice chex made me so ill I thought I had a stomach virus. I stopped eating them (and everything, due to the sickness) and got better; when I started eating them... -
ARCHIVED Confusion About Lay's Stax
Cheryl-C replied to Cheryl-C's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I'm in Canada, and looked at both the US website and the Canadian one. It's like these chips just don't exist, except that I'm LOOKING AT THEM on my desk. They just say "Lay's Stax bar-b-q flavour." I'm probably over-thinking things. After all, Lay's Stax are made on gluten-free lines, so wouldn't that mean that the Stax themselves are gluten-free? -
ARCHIVED Confusion About Lay's Stax
Cheryl-C replied to Cheryl-C's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Dehydrated potatoes (contain dextrose, mono- and diglycerides, citric acid), sunflower oil, seasoning (sugar, salt, corn maltodextrin, onion powder, monosodium glutamate, corn syrup solids, tomato powder, hydrolyzed corn protein, natural flavours, colour, malic acid, sodium acetate, acetic acid, spices, sodium caseinate, citric acid, disodium inosinate, disodium... -
ARCHIVED Confusion About Lay's Stax
Cheryl-C posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I know someone posted a thread a while back about Lay's updated list - thanks! I was under the impression that ALL Lay's Stax are gluten free. I couldn't find the post here on the forum, but I did look at the Lay's official site... Anyway, can anyone confirm for me that Lay's Stax BBQ are actually gluten free? On the official site I found mesquite bbq and... -
ARCHIVED Altoids
Cheryl-C replied to jams's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I know this thread is old, so I just wanted to update that as of Oct 2010 (last checked date) altoids wintergreen mints (regular size) are gluten-free. Open Original Shared Link -
If I can add my two cents, even though we don't have PF Changs up here ... if you've only been gluten-free for a couple of months, you'd probably be better off holding off on eating out until you're healed and feeling stronger. My doctor advised me to eat very basic, plain food for the first while - rice, fruit and veggies, little or no cheese, no spices...

ARCHIVED Fruite Juice
Cheryl-C posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hey everyone, Does anyone know if this juice is safe? The label has artifical flavours/colours and the website doesn't give any information. In order to contact them (even via email) you have to provide home address and phone number, with which I'm not comfortable. Thanks! PS - YES I know this juice is completely unhealthy. It's what I have in the...
