  1. I went through a period where I was practically manic before the gluten crash, and have wondered if anyone else was like that. I had a full time, well paying job, was an avid gardener, grew several rare plants, and invested $10,000 in a mobile mini donut machine because I was bored. I crashed, only the heartiest of the plants survived, I'm still working...
  2. Nuts pack the protein you crave are a quick and easy snack to fix. My personal favorite source is Nutsonline.com. They have a dedicated facility and great customer service. For me, it wasn't the lactaid. It was that my autoimmune system started attacking the protein in dairy products, even hard cheese. (I was able to successfully reintroduce dairy...
  3. I'm guessing they'll check your B-12 levels too, that's important, since anemia can cause fatigue. I just got diagnosed with Lupus, but that's more common with women than men, and I'm twice your age. I still make myself exercise, even if it's just doing squats or push ups, leg lifts, or going for a bike ride or a walk, or taking the stairs instead of...
  4. I remember that this topic was covered in "Celiac Disease: The Unknown Epidemic" by Dr. Peter Green. I'm fairly certain he wrote that he felt it was unlikely to ingest enough gluten from a kiss, but acknowledged that lipstick is one of the most likely cosmetics to be ingested. That book was pretty good, by the way.
  5. Good luck! Request copies of all blood tests and keep a file on your test results. My PCP suggested this two years ago. (I didn't listen, but I should have.)
  6. My dp's friend stopped by tonight. He has torette's syndrome and likes to drink beer. DP and I are about the only people that treat him like normal, everyone else thinks he's a freak. I let Denny kiss me on the face, we have big hugs and big kisses, but I know they're just planted on my cheeks. (I'm careful about letting him come close to my mucous...
  7. Sent you a personal message...Hope you got it!I got yours! Hope your feeling better...It sucks being Ill!!!True story about the dogs...hope it made you laugh! :)

  8. Hi Lucia, I live in south Florida. This is the first year I've tried growing papayas, so I'm pretty excited. The hanging fruit is so big that the tree knocked over. (DP saved it, but says we need to pick some fruit. The tree is propped up with a garage broom and a couple of wood slats. I emptied the compost bin in the spot I planted it in, so maybe that...
  9. It turns out that I have Lupus. Discoid Lupus from a biopsy, so it's indisputable. It will probably turn out to be Systemic Lupus, because I had a really bad neurological reaction when I got stressed out last week. I couldn't write with my right hand! I ordered 3 books from Amazon on it for alternative treatments. From what I've browsed though,...
  10. Tonight dinner was modified chicken Brunswick stew. (Modified by adding the last bits of things in the cupboard, like 1/3 a bag of black eyed peas, left out the okra (didn't have any), added extra veggies I had on hand, like kale (also went to the farmers market today, the seller said he picked it last night). Used up a bunch of veggies! Served...
  11. Good for you!
  12. Let us know how it turns out, and if you have any questions, post them. Wishing you well!
  13. The dermatologist I've seen for the last three years had his receptionist call me tonight to apologize. She said that they had revamped the method and inserviced everyone in the office on how to route medical records, and proceeded to explain what happened, and how dear Dr. had never seen the biopsy report which diagnosed me with Discoid Lupus. I...
  14. I know it's frustrating. You kind of need to work out what works with your body and diet. For me, I had to pay attenion to other food intolerences like corn, dairy, soy. We're used to a quick fix and a microwave society. That can't be your reality anymore. For me, and it may not be the same for you, I found it best to go with whole foods, things...
  15. I don't even want to ask you this because I'm scared of the answer, but here it is: Did your doctor refer you to the consultant? Even if he didn't, that's just plain BS. On a happy note, I saw a new & improved Derm today. He was well informed about Lupus and Mixed Connective Tissue Disease and Celiac based on the conversation we had. He...
  16. I grew up in apple country! After I read a book about the benefits of raw organic apple cider, I tried it. I don't know if it speeds up the recovery period (it takes time and diligence to to the diet to recover) but I'm reasonably sure it didn't hurt me. I still keep it in the pantry. It's great for salad dressings, swabbing on the skin for insect bites...
  17. Thanks for your previous kind responses, Mushroom and Love. It was kind of a whack on the head to learn that I had other stuff going on, the Lupus is real, that's from a skin biopsy. I still don't think the Lyme's disease blood draw result is a real concern, it just shows antibodies on the panel, and by body furls antibodies at everything. I have...
  18. Welcome Littlemel! Sending you cyber hugs (((( )))) I don't know if it helps or not, but what you're going through is normal. You said it dead on, it's a battle at first. (And don't worry about complaining, this is the place to do it.) You'll get better advice here than in most Dr's office, in mho. It get's better. You'll be able to sleep...
  19. I'm glad you liked my trick for swapping potatoes w/ turnips. Of course, it will probably come back to bite me when my adult children have to go to see a psychologist with trust issues.

  20. If it get's difficult in situations like this, remind yourself that you don't want to be a donut hoe! A little piece of dark chocolate gets me through all those situations, even if I end up giving a couple of dollars or 50 cents to the seller for not buying the cookies that will hurt me. (Hershey's Dark Chocolate Nuggets with Almonds is my current...
  21. Thanks, Gail. xoxoxo It's Discoid. Funny story. Over a year ago I was researching my symptoms and figured I had Lupus. DP showed up with a 25 cent book from the library used book shop: "Lupus Q&A Everything You Need to Know". The way I remember it is that he gave me the book because two of my girlfriends have Lupus and he thought...
  22. I found out I have Discoid Lupus from picking up biopsy results from my dermatologist. The biopsy was taken over a year ago. This is news to me, the medical assistant called after the biopsy and told me she had good news, the biopsy was good. It's still "Buyer beware" Now it is "Patient beware." I urge everyone to pick up results from every test...
  23. This is how bad it is! I stopped by medical records because I'm changing doctors (again) and requested all copies of my lab draws for the past two years. Included in the stack of papers was a copy of the form they sent to our local health dept. as required by State Law. So they notified the health dept. that I had Lyme disease, but didn't notify me in November...
  24. Hi Sidekick, I've got mixed feelings on this topic. I'm not diagnosed, had pretty much given up on doctor's figuring out why I had neuropathy, gait abnormality, uncontrollable "D", daily nausea/vomitting, profound depression and insomnia. Once I went gluten-free, my condition improved remarkably. Life still wasn't a piece of cake but I was not willing...
