  1. Thanks for the long-ago post you made about Chebe pizza dough mix! We try to make our own, but it's not always convenient and this brand was really, really good!!! Thanks a bunch!! IH

  2. I feel like I need to warn you. The first few times it it tough to set up parameters or refuse guests of friends and family. Now that you and hubby set up your parameters you should probably put them in writing in a letter format (cheerfully) that spells it out and after discussing those issues on the phone with your visitors, send them a letter. Some...
  3. Smoked St. Louis style ribs, black eyed peas and rice. I threw some roasted garlic, poblano and red peppers in with the black eyed peas along with cumin and mustard seed, tumeric and fresh thyme and they were the best! Happy New Year!
  4. Hi EnglishRose, and welcome to the forum! Many of us have had other food intolerances shortly after going gluten-free. It's an autoimmune disease, and your system is really on the hunt since you've eliminated the gluten protein. Dairy, soy and corn are common culprits, because the protein is similar in structure to the gluten protein. Nightshade vegetables...
  5. I'm so sorry you're going through all of that Elizabeth, and welcome to the forum. My experience could be totally different than your's, but I had many similar reactions. It turned out that I couldn't tolerate some "safe" grains (quinoa, certified gluten-free oats), dairy or soy on top of gluten. Then corn hurt me. It took awhile for me to figure that...
  6. So Delicious has a web site and printable coupon too, just in case you're interested.
  7. Sorry, BC = Birth Control Pills. It is likely that I grew an inch or two after the age of 16, I just remember always being the tallest in my class until a few of the guys caught up with me in 12th grade. (Trying to remember 40 years ago... not sure I'm providing accurate information! Sorry
  8. Oh, Abby, I feel for you. I remember those days. The tests are unreliable, you can try gluten-free and see if you feel better. Then you'll be "gluten intolerant" instead of having celiac disease, but if your BM's (and life) gets more normal, who could possibly care about test results? Try it and see. You have nothing to lose, except possibly the doctor...
  9. :)Another thing is that your autoimmune system has decided it doesn't like wheat. It attacks. You take away wheat and consume other things that you love and can have. The protein in dairy is similar in shape and structure to dairy, and your autoimmune system is ramped up and ready to fight. Maybe it's fighting dairy. You took away the favorite...
  10. I'm with you, Jestgar! A neighbor recently told me that I eat cleaner than anybody she knows. (Her favorite tee shirt says "Kill your television!") Last month I was picking up a take out order at a local deli. I asked the guy at the counter if they had a gluten-free menu. He responded, "You mean like real food?" That cracked me up! The deli...
  11. I'm pretty sure that my maternal grandfather had it. Mom was the only one of nine children (2 boys, 7 girls) that was diagnosed. I'me from a family of 5 (2 boys, 3 girls), so to me the statisitics don't lean toward one gender or another. None of my siblings or their offspring have tested positive (yet). I agree with Peter. None of us have DH, but...
  12. Unfortunately, the answer to your question is unknown. It took me almost two years to feel better, but I'm quite a bit older than you and think I went undiagnosed (even though I'm self diagnosed) for several more years than you did. At seven months, if you're still having trouble with your BM's, I'd suggest trying to figure out what other foods are...
  13. :)Thanks for the great link Lovetotravel! I saved it. Are you ok with dairy again?
  14. Wow, that's very interesting to me. I'm very tall (6') and was a late "bloomer". My mother had our doctor put me on BC pills to start my period when I was 16. I descend from tall parents though, mother (the carrier) was 5'10 and father was 6'. They had two sons 6', 6'6", and 3 daughters 5'10, 5'8 and 6'. So far I'm the only one with gluten issues, but...
  15. Merry Christmas! I went to my niece's, she's an RN and I took a risk but ate her dinner instead of the gluten-free frozen dinner I brought. She served standing rib roast, smoked ham, fresh green beens with shallots, and grilled sweet potatoe wedges with fresh rosemary and S&P. I didn't eat any of the appetizers even though they appeared gluten-free...
  16. If your gut is damaged, it could also be one of the common culprits like dairy, soy, corn or other grains (like certifed gluten-free oats or other "safe" grains. Fortunately these may be items you can safely reintroduce in time. Foods in the nightshade family bother some people after going gluten-free too. Try keeping a food diary. It also helped...
  17. I'm pretty stern. I have stopped all but single visitors. (I'm lucky because we have a small house.) I live in a destination area, so this comes up frequently. I feel bad when I suggest the various hotels here and don't offer our home, but I don't get sick by the stuff they would cc me with and can have a good time when family or friends visit. My DP's...
  18. I don't know if you can get these locally, but our local grocery stores carry XOCCHiTL corn chips. They're hot and spicy, super thin & gluten-free. They're in a brown bag with a little cellophane window in the front. You hit on a favorite topic of mine because I couldn't tolerate corn for quite awhile, and I'm really happy to add corn and dairy back...
  19. We had to put down our dearly beloved 12 year old (minus two days) Doberman yesterday morning. She ate gluten-free from me but DP always fed her gluten treats. I haven't allowed her to kiss me for ahile because of the gluten treats, but she licked the tears of my cheeks and gave me a lifetime of kisses yesterday. RIP Ruby, she was a very good girl!
  20. Can you list the ingredients?
  21. Hi Andrea, and welcome to the forum. I had neurological reactions (and still do if I get CC) before all of the other symptoms stepped in. The only milk (I tried them all) that I could tolerate was coconut milk, but from a can, and one that didn't list any additives. I actually made my own coconut milk once too, that was a major pia. Once you give...
  22. My brothers and sisters get it. That entitles me to be a certified "picky eater" and not 100 percent social when it comes to eating. Sometime's I just say I'm a "picky eater" and leave it at that when somebody wants me to eat something. Even if you've never been picky before, you are entitled to be picky. Your health and wellbeing depends on...
  23. DP smoked a picnic ham today. It was on sale for $1.07 per pound. This cut of meat is frequently on sale because it isn't a popular cut of meat. You can slow cook, pressure cook or bake it. DP loves to smoke while the football games are on. We didn't use a rub or sauce, just rubbed salt and pepper on it last night after scoring the fat layer and...
  24. Yum, that sounds good mushroom. Here's a recipe I stumbled on Open Original Shared Link Or there are easier recipes for bread puddings if you google gluten-free bread pudding recipes. Some of it would probably make a good Christmas casserole, that one that you soak in scrambled eggs overnight with crumbled pre-cooked sausage or bacon and...
  25. Ooh, I've never tried a BLA, have a haas ripening on the counter...do you put a smidge of mayo on the toast or leave it off beause of the Avacado? Inquirying minds want to know.
