Dear Healing, I suspect you have other food allergies or intolerances. gluten-free Oats and quinoa in any way, shape or form smacked me around for awhile. I could only tolerate tapioca flour and some of the bean flours. Buckwheat never killed me, but I was careful with it. I advocate skin prick testing at an allergist's, it identified som weierd...

The What's For Dinner Tonight Chat

Arrived home late this evening, had grilled chicken apple brats with nachos. I figured the salsa and apple counted as a fruit and veg! -

We had grilled steaks and nuked green beans with roast sweet potatos for me, white taters for him. -
ARCHIVED Best Pot Roast Recipes?
Marilyn R replied to hspichke's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Hi hs. and welcome to the forum. I don't know if this is the best slow cooker recipe, but I generally brown my roast (easiest to brown on the grill), but you can use a cast iron pan or non-stick pan. Meantime I chop an onion, peel and slice 4-5 carrots. You can add chopped celery too. I like to saute the veggies before sticking them in the crock pot... -

Burdee, I don't know if it's fact or fiction, but there have been quite a few older posts about cc with Amy's foods. I've avoided them based on this forum, but I'm not sure that's necessarilly correct. We had pulled smoked pork on toasted cheese bread (Chebe's) with mashed potatoes tonight. I'm feeling guilty about not having anything green, but we... -
The CMP is a "Complete Metabolic Panel". I don't know what your doc prescribed for B-12 or Vitamin D defficiency, but I've seen from other very good posters that sub-lingual drops of Vit. B-12 work well. And I'm a believer in Vitamin D-3 drops (purchased at a health food store.) I wonder how your calcium level is, that's another blood test, a "Basic" and...

ARCHIVED Which Is Easier For You: Dairy Or Gluten Free?
Marilyn R replied to JWSJ's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I had my first gluten nightmare in a very long while after I responded to this thread. I never dreamed about dairy, even though it was rough to avoid it for quite awhile. So I guess gluten was a bigger beast of burden. -
ARCHIVED Sweet Baby Ray's Bbq Sauce
Marilyn R replied to jk6060842's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Sweet Baby Ray's contains soy, last time I checked, that may or may not be a concern of your's. It is gluten-free though. -
Yay! I'm dancing for you, Bart. I played the clarinet in high school, but gave it up. I wish I could join you in a jam to say good-bye to the worries. xxx and big ((( ))))

ARCHIVED Which Is Easier For You: Dairy Or Gluten Free?
Marilyn R replied to JWSJ's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
But you'll do the happy dance once you have healed enough to reintroduce dairy! (I can't decide which I loved more, loved both.) Don't miss gluten much because it made me sick as a dog, and I don't mind not being sick.) -
ARCHIVED Additional Food Allergy, Or Something Else?
Marilyn R replied to SafetyDancePants's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi SafetyDance, and welome to the forum! I'm self diagnosed too, and I found that after going gluten free I had to cut out other foods for awhile. For me, it was dairy, soy and corn. After allowing some time for healing I can enjoy dairy and corn again. I haven't been willing to try soy yet, except trace amounts in my calcium supplement and a small... -
It would be fun to stick a note in there too, like they do with fotune cookies, but I'm not sure if ink is toxic or not. A thin strip of paper with an anger appropriate message could be fun. Something like "Inconsiderate jerk, stay away from my food or ELSE. This is a warning muffin, Hope you hated it." Or maybe after sticking the salt muffins in the...

I also suffered from eye twitching (only the left eye, which is wierd, because I can't wink that eye) intermittently during periods of stress for years before going gluten-free. I haven't had one eye twitch since going gluten-free (yet). Do you have other neurological symptoms from glutening?

I'm curious...Did that work tarnalberry? I've always wondered about people who steal food from their co-workers, do they have any morals at all? One interesting sidenote, I just adopted a 4 year old German Pinscher with food aggression issues. (At first it was with people and dogs, now it's just with dogs, we're workin' on it.) She went after a dog twice...

Hey Bartful, I'm thinking of you and wishing you well. Just so you know, I like veggies, all of them with the exception of fresh tomato. I like veggies more than I like meat. In my humble opinion, it would have been impossible to go vegan in the first stages of going post gluten-free because I craved protein. I've done a fair amount of research about...

I also couldn't tolerate corn for awhile. Products with high fructose corn syrups caused a reaction for me when I couldn't tolerate corn.

ARCHIVED Need To Vent Because Mom Is Not Helping
Marilyn R replied to Goof's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
You've received great advice so far. The only other thing I would suggest is that perhaps for a number of reasons your Mom hasn't been able to digest the book. This is a good link for getting written materials to reinforce what you tell her verbally. Open Original Shared Link There are other good sources for materials that reinforce the "rules... -
I like to excercise, my neurologist said to use it or lose it, and that exercise helps everything. Stairs are still hard but I use them (down is tougher than up for me), but Mom couldn't walk straight down a sidewalk at my age, so I'm not complaining. It helped me so much to adopt a little dog who makes me take her for a walk! I honestly didn't like...

ARCHIVED It's One Of Those Days/weeks/months :(
Marilyn R replied to AJ Leigh's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Take a long soak in the bath (adding epsoms salts and baking soda is good.) I like about a cup of salts and about 1 1/2 cups of baking soda in really hot water. And then get your mind around eliminating dairy for awhile, and what you can do with that. (It's not that hard.) There's still so many really good things to eat! -

Thanks so much Lisa. That stew is really good with a dollup of yogurt or a bit of sour cream on top (if you can by gosh handle that). -
ARCHIVED I Had Hoped To Never Return To This Place
Marilyn R replied to zus888's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Interesting. I have been plagued by the herpes virus since I was 16 years old. I've always wondered if it was from sharing lipstick with a friend (still rememeber her name) or my Aunt Crystal (she had it too). For the first time in well over three years I felt like I was getting a herpes sore on my lip. I applied ice twice, then took am anti-anxiety... -
ARCHIVED I Had Hoped To Never Return To This Place
Marilyn R replied to zus888's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Suzanna, I read you post last night and bawled my eyes out. I posted and then deleted my post because I was so emotional. I have wondered many times about you, and figured you'd improved and gone on to other things. If you recall, we share similar symptoms from getting glutened. I remember that you said that you read a response of mine to your husband... -
The What's For Dinner Tonight Chat

We had steamed garlic mussles and roasted stuffed peppers. This time I stuffed red and pablano peppers with sauted onion, ground pork, rice, tomato paste, a couple of cheeses, and seasonings and baked them at 400 degrees for about 40 minutes. They were delish, to coin a phrase from Rachel Ray. I'm happy because 1 lb. of pork, an onion and several... -
ARCHIVED How Much Damage Can Soy Do?
Marilyn R replied to Bubba's Mom's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I didn't have my biopsy until approximately 8 months after going gluten-free but was convinced that the soy intollerance was going to give me a positive biopsy. I've never picked up the results of my biopsy, but it turned out negative. I think the surgery I had could have been prevented if a dr. had steered me in the right direction, but my situation... -

We had grilled sirloin burgers (with minced onion mixed in there) on toasted chebe sandwich buns and grainy mustard with left over black eyed peas and rice. Cold front is comnig in tonight, so I'll finally be able to re-seasaon my cast iron pans.
