ARCHIVED My Recent Experience
Marilyn R replied to amcouch's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Wow we're opposites. I had most of the horrid symptoms and went gluten-free on my own out of sheer desperation. Six weeks after going gluten-free I had a negative IGA blood draw. I argued with by Gastro about having an endoscopy and biopsy for a while. Six months later, my "Gold Test" turned out negative. I don't have a diagnosis, but get... -
Great attitude and response, Lisa. I wish you a speedy recovery, Irish! Hope you feel better soon.

Thanks mushroom. He's (FIL) a gem than will be missed. Dear old dog is coping, and so am I. She is now only willing to eat off paper plates. DP won't be happy about the new development, but I'm happy she's eating. -
ARCHIVED On A Wild Goose Chase And Ready To Give Up
Marilyn R replied to birdie22's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Don't give up!!!! Something else is bugging you! Have you been to an allergist? And have you complete cut out the common problem food intolerances associated with celiac disease? (Like dairy, soy, corn, nightshades?) If you're feeling better that you were 4 weeks ago, that's something to celebrate. Unfortunately healing takes quite awhile if... -
ARCHIVED Cookie Contest Winner - Gluten Free
Marilyn R replied to ravenwoodglass's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thank you for posting that recipe Ravenwood. I was thinking about gluten-free cookies and could only come up with meringues. All of my aunts and my grandparents were from Dutch descent. They used to bake with almond paste quite a bit. Thanks for adding to our gluten-free holiday goodies! -

I'm probably going to freeze the corned beef unless the packages says you shouldn't. DP had to leave because his 88 year old father in comotose following a hip operation and they've forgone life sustaining measures. I'm home with a 12 year old dog that buries everything I give her for food because she's so upset about DP being gone. So I made pizza... -
This is so easy, good and inexpensive. Place the following in a small, deep bowl: 1/2 can (3 oz) of tomato paste (freeze the other half can in a zip lock bag to add to soup or make another batch of pizza sauce) 12 oz. (2 tomato paste cans full) of water 2 cloves of garlic (If you have roasted garlic, go for it), minced 1 tsp...

You could possibly have some other food intolerances too. For instance Quinoa and certified gluten-free Oats don't agree with me, and dairy used to kill me. (I can tolerate dairy now though.) And Mushroom, thanks for listing those blood draws. I still think you're a whiz about it.

Oops, I meant to welcome you to the forum, not "weldome" you, and couldn't figure out how to edit. Soorry abou that!

I keep coming back to this thread because I find it so interesting. Sorry to those of you who have read this before, but somebody from my home town told me that they saw my mother drunk, staggering downtown. Mom was a devout Christian and never drank alcohol, never smoked, was an RN. The first signs of cc are neuropathy for me, and it was the first symptom...

ARCHIVED gluten-free For Broke College Kids
Marilyn R replied to MissHaberdasher's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Dole distributes a bag of about 10 sweet potatoes that cost $1.99/bag. These are good microwaved, grilled or baked. I eat them plain, without any seasonings or butter. Have them about every other day. Ground pork is inexpensive. I bought 1/2 a lb. today for $1.99. I'll brown that with a small chopped onion, and s&p, Then mix it with cooked... -
Thanks for posting. That is very good info.

I bought another box of them today. The brand is Kayem. They're not organic but are all beef and have a natural casing. Hebrew National are gluten-free too, but they're more expensive. Nathans are gluten-free too, but I haven't tried those. I really like the Kayem brand, just would prefer not to have to buy a box of them. DP Grilled a frozen left... -

We had nuked corn tortillia nachos with shredded asaigo cheese, smoked chicken, fresh sweet peppers and salsa. It took less than 5 minutes to prepare and was tasty. Fit right in with how much I felt like cooking. We're doing St. Patrick's Day in December tomorrow: corned beef in the slow cooker with potatoes and cabbage. -

ARCHIVED Holiday Party At Work Today
Marilyn R replied to Marilyn R's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thanks, love2travel. I appreciate your concern and good wishes! It hasn't incapacitated me, just gave me a good smack. I should be back to normal on Sunday. Way to go on refusing the chicken curry. -
ARCHIVED Living With A Non Celiac Family
Marilyn R replied to ScarlettsMommy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It will be really hard for you until you get your own place. You're going to have to turn your radar on, and I think your best answer is to start cooking, since you mentioned that you order take out quite often. I'd buy or ask for a slow cooker (big one with removable insert) or a 5 qt. pressure cooker (my favorite, and what I'd want first) for Christmas... -
Vanicream is something I learned about on the forum. It's available at WalGreens and CVS. It used to be rx only. A little bit goes a long way. I prefer the original formula to the "light" version.

ARCHIVED Have Your Tastes Changed?
Marilyn R replied to Diane-in-FL's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Dark chocolate with almonds is something I still can't resist. Or just dark or bittersweet chocolate. I don't crave chocolate, but I enjoy a dark chocolate after a meal. It substitutes for desert. My cravings usually involve root vegetables or something in the cabbage family. If it's just sheer hunger, I crave protein.
