  1. I use 1/2 a recipe of kneaded Chebes bread mix (cost's less than $3), rolled out thin, cut into rectangles or squares. I found a hot dog that has a natural skin with no gums or soy (Kayem brand) at BJ's. Wrap the Chebe's around the dogs and bake at 350 degrees for 20 or 25 minutes. (I broiled them at the end, but I've read since then that you can brush...
  2. Be prepared that your doctor may not want to order the blood test. I urge you to go in prepared to argue, even demand the test. Most GP's don't order it until a patient has constant diarreah. That is old school. I have permanent nerve and muscle damage from gluten, and those symptoms presented way before any gastro issues started. Good luck to...
  3. Pigs in the blanket and potato chips. Lovely junk food, just what the Dr. ordered.
  4. LOL! What on earth did you order? Coffee? My co-workers told me that The Original Pancake House has gluten-free pancakes...but I haven't called to find out if they use a dedicated grill or what. Blech, I'll make 'em at home.
  5. Hi prickly, If you have neuro reactions, it could be due to eating out, or I noticed the tag line above listed gar & xanthum gums along with carrageen as food sensitivities. I bet you had a good dose of those with the candy. I had a nasty reaction lasting two days due to xanthum gum in a popular bisquit mix. Here's what happened with my neuro...
  6. I think you're finally headed down the right road! (With no thanks to your doctors, unfortunately.) Are you feeling a little better already? You will have some ups and downs, and healing can take longer than you expect, but it is so worth it! Wish you well! Have you found Chebe's bread mix yet? It's less than $3 a package and you can whip out rolls...
  7. Brown rice cake spread with peanut butter, half a sliced banana & a drizzle of honey with a sprinkle of cinnamon. I like rice cakes with melted cheese on them too, but I usually over nuke them. Glad you're feeling good Skylark!
  8. I would suggest neuro too. I don't think ortho would be productive. Have you seen a rheumutalogist?
  9. I used Bisquick, but made with butter vs. shortening. I don't know if that made a difference or not. Thanks for posting.
  10. LOl Karen, thanks for the laugh. DP said "Those are the best chicken bisquits I've ever had". I didn't ask the obvious question. I just gloated and dug in.
  11. LOl! I got gluttened yesterday, don't know if it was from my sisters cute puppy or one of the two slices of strawberries I ate. You cracked me up, thanks!
  12. Hi Lizzy, I'm undiagnosed. If you want to get diagnosed, schedule an endoscopy. When you meet with the GI, ask him/her to take multiple biopsies. Reinforce that with the head nurse at the surgery center or hospital the day of the procedure, as well as with the GI. After the procedure, request copies of the radiology report from the GI office. ...
  13. I I'm just doing a multi-vitamin. I supplement that with a Calcium tab and D-3 drops. I make my own soup stocks in the pressure cooker or slow cooker. I have a weird craving for marrow bone. I think it's good for us.
  14. I tried crock pot chicken & dumplings today. The dumplings didn't brown after an hour on high. I ended up covering a cookie sheet with parchment paper and scooping the dumplings out of the crockpot. They had bits of chicken and peas stuck them. I baked them at 400" for a few minutes, flipped them, and broiled them a couple of minutes more. They...
  15. Thank you so much, Skylark, first for understanding and secondly for the Mission Corn Tortillia recommendation. That will be my corn challenge. I made crock pot chicken soup today, all it's missing is fried corn tortillias.
  16. I wonder if adding a wee bit of corn starch (a no no for me) or arrowroot to the liquid you dip into before drenching would make the crumbs stick better? Oh! I just remembered! Refrigerate those breaded cutlets before you cook them. That really helps. I don't know why, but it does. Even 15 minutes can make a difference. I think 25-30 minutes is...
  17. I don't toast mine, but I'm lazier than Rachel Ray. I've mainly used bread crumbs for salmon cakes (which are pan seared, so they get brown) or toppings for something I bake or pan fry. I usually just do one piece of bread at a time, and if there are left overs I freeze them, then throw them away later, unless I by gosh remembered they were there when...
  18. I went to a familty cookout today, but ate at home first, showing up fashionably late. About a half hour after arriving, my 10 year old great niece started handing out little paper plates with cookies she'd made and brownies my sister made, along with cocktail napkins. I said, "No thanks, honey, but I appreciate it." She returned pronto with a small...
  19. Dear bbdailey, Healing takes awhile, and there are other food intolerances that might crop up that prolongs your healing. I'm approaching two years gluten-free in a few months, but had problems with soy, dairy, corn and legumes in the meantime. I'm quite a bit older than you, so maybe you'll heal quicker without additional food issues.
  20. I'm a slightly picky eater (which may have to change) and I sometimes feel like i need protein to get the energy to keep going... suggestions? I like a rice cake with peanut butter for a quick protein snack. Rice cakes are good with sliced or shredded cheese and a bit of pepper pepper too. (Microwave or toast until the cheese melts.) For...
  21. I stick a piece of frozen gluten-free bread in my mini food processer and give it a whirl. I can do egg whites but not yolks. I avoided egg whites for a long time but went to an allergist and it ended up being the yolks that were giving me a run. Like you, I can do whole eggs in baked recipes. I'm not saying that you and I are the same, but it might...
  22. Thanks for the advice. I...um...chickened out! I'm going to let it rest for awhile. No harm in that. I went to the the grocery today, pondering everthing, and decided maybe try it on Thanksgiving. (I think what I'm doing best these days is procrastinating.) I want the tortillias the most, but all of the corn tortillia mfg made flour tortillias...
  23. Try Chebe. I started a separate thread about kitchen gadgets about the holy pizza pan and Chebe. Cost per package is less than $3.00 and my non gluten-free DP loves it. It is really good, and pretty easy to whip out. Chebe gets an "A" in my book. It's thin, has some flex. I don't know why that flex is important, but it is.
  24. Most Health & Beauty items don't list the allergins, so they can be hidden. A dietician printed me a list from the ADA cite, but I can't locate it. Here's a link that might be helpful. Open Original Shared Link I can tolerate soy lecethin now too! You don't have to give up chocolate, though. Enjoy Life chocolate chips and chocolate chunks ...
