ARCHIVED Generic Prozac
Marilyn R replied to glutenfreemamax2's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I remember that Ravenwood suggested that you have your dr's write "Gluten Free" on all prescriptions. Your pharmacist can get pissy with you, but they must adhere to physician's orders. Call your dr's nurse or M.A. and ask them to revise the prescription. If you need the med right away, tell them you only want 1 or 2 of the pills and see what happens... -
I love corn! Grew up in the Midwest, moved south, love Mexican food, it was a heartbreaker to give up corn. I'm finally ready to give it a trial after being corn free for over a year. Now I'm in a tailspin about what to try. Should I just grill some corn? Make cornbread? Have corn tortillias? Corn pudding (OMG), or those mini cobs of corn in a...

ARCHIVED When You First Went Gluten Free, Did You Lose Weight?
Marilyn R replied to Prezwilson15's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I'm 6' tall and was 185 lbs. when I was still "healthy". Lost 35 lbs. on the South Beach Diet. Started eating gluten again, weight fluctuated. Got sick as a dog, went down to 142 lbs. I've been gluten-free since 4/10 and weigh 140 lbs, size six. I don't eat many processed gluten-free foods, but I do enjoy Chebe. My gastro wants me at 150 lbs, I... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Bread Crumbs
Marilyn R replied to misskatycat's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I've noticed that gluten-free crumbs fall off more too, and I use crumbs made from UDI bread. Do you know if you're allergic to egg white or yolk? I wonder if we mixed honey with the milk if it the crumbs would stick better when sauteeing. -
O+ and Dutch descent, inherited (I believe) by A+ Mom. Biopsy negative, but delayed several months while on gluten-free diet.

ARCHIVED Frustrated And Lost.
Marilyn R replied to Jesminda's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
OMG. I was so surprised to read this, it sounds exactly like what I do, and always have done. My difference is that I like fruits and veggies. Do you have a crock pot? What foods do you like? Sometimes the flavor of cooked vegetables can be so much more palatable than fresh raw, especially when slow cooked with meat. I like a simple white fish fillet... -
ARCHIVED Frustrated And Lost.
Marilyn R replied to Jesminda's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Jesminda, I was so sick for so long, and none of the doctors I saw helped. I finally went on a simple diet of bananas, rice and apples for a few days. I started feeling better. Then I had a half a piece of toast and got very ill again. Next I tried plain potatoes. My best advice is to try to eat very simply with minimum ingredients and monitor... -

Thamk you Bubba's Mom, I have a tiny house, and I'll wait till we get a good chill here so I can heat the oven and open the windows. Shouldn't be long. I made Chebe's garlic onion cheese sticks last weekend on that holy pan. (They can be made without cheese, but I'm doing dairy okay for now.) I chopped the leftover breadsticks into 3/4 inch pieces and... -
The What's For Dinner Tonight Chat
Marilyn R replied to jess-gf's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
We had the result of miscommunication tonight. I called DP this afternoon to see if I needed to pick something up at the grocery and he said we had left over smoked pork and potatoes. I thought he was referring to the left over mashed potatoes. I started to make Shepard's Pie and was looking for the smashed taters when he announced that he scarfed those... -
Hi BeFree, Sorry you had a reaction to soy. Quite a few of us on the forum have problems with it. My reactions to soy were fairly similar to the reactions to gluten and dairy. Your autoimmune system found a new enemy. Soy does seem to be in almost everything! It's cheap and easy to grow and refine. Check your vitamins, supplements, toothpaste ...

ARCHIVED Veggie Slices (Gluten Free Cheese)
Marilyn R replied to RVluvin's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Organic whipping cream (in a carton) shouldn't contain carageenan. Put it in a bowl with powdered sugar and whip away! I checked at the regular grocery stores and the health food store on the cartons of organic cream.. All of them contain carrageenan. I'm not suggesting that carageenan is bad for anyone else, but I seem to have a problem with it.... -

I have an electric oven and I just checked, 500 degrees is the top I can go. It doesn't have a self cleaning feature, it's actually an undersized oven in a galley kitchen, and I'm just hoping they still mfg that size when this one bites the dust. I wonder if this would have worked on the gas grill I tossed. Anyway, I'll google "reseasoning cast iron",... -
ARCHIVED Low Vitamin D And Iron - Nausea Connection?
Marilyn R replied to sandsurfgirl's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Dear Sandsurf, Sorry I haven't checked this thread for a few days. So sorry to learn of your loss. I just wanted to mention that from what I've researched, Vitamin D1 doesn't really help, but D3 does. Some old school doctors prescribe D1. I thought I'd mention that...and hope you're feeling betting soon. Hugs! (( )) -

Thanks! I appreciate the other respones too... will try the high temp kill and re-seasoning with my cast iron cookware, it's a love thing. I didn't have a problem with tossing out plastic or wood, but I had to keep my cast iron. The holy pizza pan definitely rocks for gluten-free baking. Stuff actually browns instead of looking sickish white but done... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Bread Bowls
Marilyn R replied to Katrala's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Thank you Katrala! I've held off on buying the xanthum gum, but I guess I need to do it. How was your Halloween party? -
I went for months buying three romaine salad hearts. I'd wash and spin them dry on the weekend, and bag them up into individual serving sizes. I'd alternate proteins like safe tuna or chicken and add hearts of palm, grilled asparagus, shredded carrots. chopped seeded cucumber. Sometimes I had leftover salmon or shrimp, or sliced avacado. Loved that...

ARCHIVED Veggie Slices (Gluten Free Cheese)
Marilyn R replied to RVluvin's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Oops, my bad Peter. The problem I have with whipping cream is the carrageen, not soy. I don't know why that bugs me, but it does. I always associate that ingredient with soy, but it's not soy. I haven't found a whipped cream without carrageen yet, but I live in a small town. -
ARCHIVED How To Notify Family
Marilyn R replied to pricklypear1971's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
When my brother was here, we talked about the disease. I reminded him that all off Mom's 8 brothers and sisters were ambulatory at a very late age, and the survivors are still totally ambulatory without walk aids. Yet Mom was wheelchair bound. He said "So you have to choose between gluten or walking? That seems like an easy choice." It's really frustrating... -

Thanks Alice, I retired my cast iron cookware...it's still in the cabinets but I haven't used it for 18 months. Can you suggest a safe cleansing method or should I just donate my old (loved) cast iron cookware the the local thrift shop and start with new? Even if get new, it isn't the same, but you know that. -

Marilyn R replied to espresso261's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
The only other thing I want to add to this post is that we are Entitled to have special food requests at functions involving catering. I worked as a catering manager 20 years ago. We always had vegetarian or kosher plates available, even if they weren't requested in advance. This isn't a lifestyle or religious choice, we have a medical necessity to eat... -
