So why is it that the guy gets it on his ankle and the girl gets it on her ear and nose? Thanks for your advice. I bought some benadryl cream today, had been using triple antibiotic ointment on the nose. I really appreciate your advice. And I bought some silicone anti scar stuff for my cheek. That's where the derm biopsied me 2 years ago and I developed...

That sounds like what I went though. And I had hyperparathyroidsm, (diagnosed with primary) but now think it was secondary after reasearching. Have you had your calcium level checked? I'm just guessing, and I'm not expert by any means.

ARCHIVED Casein Intolerance - Has It Ever Improved For You?
Marilyn R replied to The Horticulturalist's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi horticulturist, I was able to tolerate casein about 18 months after eliminating it. (I may have been able to reintroduce it earlier, but I was reluctant because of the side effects.) Once I wasn't having problems with it, I went a little overboard. Had so many cheeses, ice cream, milk, half-n-half, all of that, risotto. This week I'm having... -
I second GFManna, gluten-free MO, you need a little gluten-free emergency kit to tote with you. And protein is really important...that banana just raised your blood sugar levels and omg made you want that pizza. As for Thanksgiving, I've never been a big fan. Women cook all day, then wash the dishes, men watch football. I'm allergic to turkey so we...

I think I've had every symptom possibly connected to celiac disease. The latest is a patch of dry scaly skin on my ear lobe. It itches the bejesus out of me. I saw a dermatoligist about it. He ignored my question and focused on a red spot on my nose which he said looked cancerous. That was a month ago. The nose biopsy is benign. My ear still itches...

A specialist would tell you that you can't say that you have neurapathy. That is a diagnosis. Then you can be referred to a neurologist that orders some really horrid tests and be told that you have polyneuropathy. That was my experience. I officially have permanent muscle and nerve damange . And I can say I have neuropathy now, vs. "pins and needle...

ARCHIVED How To Notify Family
Marilyn R replied to pricklypear1971's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
This is sad but true. Most of my cousins and aunts and uncles from both sides of the family showed up for my Mother's funeral. Many of them asked me if I was sick, or asked me if I was okay. It was eight months after going gluten-free and I was still painfully thin, looked like death walking. I explained celiac disease in a few carefully chosen words... -
ARCHIVED No Gluten Free Food In The Entire Stadium.?
Marilyn R replied to Karla01's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Sory, I would expect it to be non gluten-free at a ballpark. I eat ahead of time, luckily my DP is happy with watching about 3 innings, then scooting towards home base. We have a good meal and watch the rest of the game on TV at home, sweet home. (We don't have season tickets though... maybe it's worthwhile to contact the field manager.) Speaking... -
ARCHIVED No Health Insurance, Confused On Symptoms. Self-Diagnose Or Pay Up?
Marilyn R replied to leafmask's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Be forewarned, this may be bad advice! At first I was going to suggest that you call your last dr. and request a blood test without an office visit. Then I thought about how many false negatives there are, and that even if you had a positive blood test, your doc would want to refer you to a gastro for an endoscopy and that's big bucks (anesthesiologist... -
So sorry you are feeling bad, JBaby! I don't eat until I feel hungry, and then I go for some homemade chicken soup which I keep in the freezer, s soup with root veggies and herbs, celery, no grains at all, and lots of chicken. I will drink homemade ginger or sage tea until I feel like eating. Both sage and ginger are good for digestion. (Bring a cup...

That is part of the fun bit... frustrating at first but then having to use your brains to figure out what you can and cannot eat and making the most of it. It is taxing, no dount.

ARCHIVED Muscle Weakjness / Twitching / Neurological Symptoms?
Marilyn R replied to GoPhils's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Likewise, AVR. (And I'm glad you saved your little parathyroid glands). Thank you so much for the links, and info I requested. It's interesting that Dr. Norman never mentions wheat consumption with the Osteopenia or Osteoporosis and malabsorbtion. I really think if I'd seen a reference to wheat, it would have connected with Mom's disease. Dr. Norman... -
The What's For Dinner Tonight Chat
Marilyn R replied to jess-gf's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Leftovers, but they were exquisite. Defrosted twice baked potatos reheated on the grill, along with 1/2 a stuffed poblano pepper and left over gyro meat. Dessert was a couple melon ball sized scoops of rum raisin ice cream. -

Marilyn R replied to GoPhils's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Wow. I thought I had read everything on Dr. Norman's site before I had the surgery. It's so bizzare that it never dawned on me until I got uncontrollable diahhreah and daily nausea about six months after the surgery that it could be gluten. Maybe because of the brain fog? IDK. My mom had celiac disease. My sister found in her diary that Mom had a... -
ARCHIVED Wow! Great Stuffed Mushrooms!
Marilyn R replied to Marilyn R's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I think I'd try it with homemade almond milk vs. almond breeze. Here's a link that explains that. I had a problem (probably soy connected) with almond breeze... If it works, let me know! Good luck! -
ARCHIVED Vaseline Petroleum Jelly Or Something Else For Chapped Lips

Olive oil...I gave up on the Burt's bees, i think because of soy but I could be wrong. -
ARCHIVED Muscle Weakjness / Twitching / Neurological Symptoms?
Marilyn R replied to GoPhils's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My surgeon from an esteemed college clinic removed 3.5 of my parathyroid glands. I had to have a nuclear scan of my neck before the surgery. I asked the surgeon to forego that, but he wouldn't. When I didn't have significant relief from the surgery, the endocrinoligist from the same esteemed clinic kept telling me that maybe it would take some time... -
ARCHIVED Wow! Great Stuffed Mushrooms!
Marilyn R replied to Marilyn R's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Hi Cougie, Here's the link. I think I remember in the comments section that it said you can make it with lactose free milk but the person who tried it with coconut milk failed. Not sure it will work with your casein free diet, but here it is... I'm pretty sure nobody tried it with cashew or rice milk, and I think the person who tried coconut milk didn... -
ARCHIVED "gluten Free Lifestyle" By Katie Ross
Marilyn R replied to MerrillC1977's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Was it a worthwhile expenditure? Would you recommend it to friends who can't tolerate gluten? -
My bone pain was associated with secondary hyperparathyroidism and osteopenia, and other food intolerances. (I'm not suggesting your's is, but it's something you might want to ask your doctor about because 25 percent of people with celiac disease have it.) Quinoa is on the "safe" list but kicks me right where it hurts, as does soy. Ask your doctor to...

ARCHIVED "gluten Free Lifestyle" By Katie Ross
Marilyn R replied to MerrillC1977's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I've never seen a cookbook by her in my library, but I live a small town. I generally check cookbooks out from the library before purchasing them to see if they're worthwhile. It looks like a spendy purchase. I probably wouldn't invest anything more than $30 including shipping. I find it pretty easy to get ideas and recipes online for free... -

Wow! That GE food processor can take a lickin and keep on ticking! We had gyros tonight, yum! I used a reciped from the slow cooker 365 site modified with an Allrecipes recipe. Mine was on a flatbread I make with chick pea flour. (We have an Indian grocery store so the flour is inexpensive.) I haven't tried Udi's pizza dough yet. Is it good... -
ARCHIVED Is Sleep Overrated For Us Celiacs?
Marilyn R replied to New Community Member's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I became sensitive to corn shortly after going gluten-free. It didn't turn up in allergy testing, even though other foods did. Corn doesn't bother everyone who can't tolerate gluten, but it's one to watch out for. I haven't tried reintroducing it yet. Corn tortillias are handy, but, dang, corn smacked me. -
ARCHIVED Hida Scan Results
Marilyn R replied to swcom120's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Even though I have insurance, the (unrelated to your topic) surgery I had cost me $5,000 out of pocket. I am absolutely convinced that it was unnessary and would have worked out with a strictly gluten-free diet and time. That was my experience and not necessarily yours, of course. Good luck, hope you feel better soon. -
ARCHIVED Muscle Weakjness / Twitching / Neurological Symptoms?
Marilyn R replied to GoPhils's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
There was a great article in "Living Without" (August/Sept 2011). Dr. Allessio Fasano (expert on celiac disease) stated that 25% of people with celiac disease have secondary hyperparathyroidism, which is in part part of why so many Celiacs get Osteoporosis.) I was diagnosed with Primary Hyperparathyroidism before I went gluten-free. A number of those...
