  1. I share in your happiness that you aren't having migranes anymore and that your digestive problems seem to be resolving. For me, it took a solid 18 months to really feel better. Other people feel better much sooner. I know a dietician who cheats on the diet. (She says she knows she'll end up with a colostomy anyway.) My mother was a registered...

    ARCHIVED Anxiety

I have pretty much given up eating out. Oddly, when I had to travel for my dear mother's funeral, I had to eat out and didn't suffer. But I feel safer eating the food I've prepared (and packed). It may be a matter of trust in my situation. I've repetatively explained to my partner the concept of CC and gluten-free, but he still makes major mistakes,...
  3. That's amazing and wonderful. Where I live, you can't even get a copy of your lab results from a lab unless your doctor writes on the rx that you can have a copy.
  4. Thank you so much for the great ideas, Karen, Love2Travel, and mbrooks! You're making me hungry! And Karen, love the new look (American Flag), and your sense of humor! gluten-free Sista, I'd deliver smoked chicken if you were in my 'hood! I made the sauce for the ribs the night before in my crockpot. I guess it's good because I asked DP...
  5. I think I'm ready for a corn challenge! (I haven't updated my tag, I actually can have dairy now.) Thank you for your suggestions, they sound yummy!
  6. DP bought a smoker this week and wanted to test it out. Ribs and whole chicken were on sale. I rubbbed the ribs with oriental 5 spice flour and salt, and we used the 3-2-1 rule (three hours on the grill at 220 degrees with the rub, 2 hours in aluminum foil and 1 hour with basting a sauce out of the foil). I prepped the 5 lb. chicken (cost $5) with lemon...
  7. This diet was a godsend for me. I honest to god would have killed myself 19 months ago if my mother hadn't been alive. I figured my four brothers and sisters would be okay, my dear partner would be okay if I committed suicide, but my poor dear Mom would be devastated, so I didn't do what I really wanted to do. And it was all because of gluten. Profound...
  8. Weird. I don't have a diagnosis, but had multiple textbook symptoms, went gluten-free on my own. Both quinoa and gluten-free oats turned my insides upside down after going gluten-free. Then soy and dairy. I actually had a doctor willing to diagnose me based on just my history, but I don't have the "real" dx. I can tolerate dairy again. Maybe I'll...
  9. I've never had a problem at my local Indian restaurant, except that it's 30 miles away! I microwave Papadam, not sure what the restaurant does. And I developed an intolerance to legumes about 8 months after going gluten-free, so that could have something to do with it. Or not.
  10. I think Curel unscented is okay.
  11. My brother is not a nice person (that has come out many ways through-out my life). Well that changes everything. I take back everything I suggested. My brothers weren't nice when I was little, but they ended up being rocks for me by the time I was in my teens and twenties, even now in my fifties. If your brother is still unkind to you and not a...
  12. I made Greek Pizza with the gluten-free Biscuit recipe. The best thing that I can say about it is that it made the house smell good.
  13. It is really, really hard starting out, nobody disputes that. It gets easier. And I hope you didn't interpret my response as being against you, because it wasn't. Other posters didn't intend to be against you either. We were trying to give relavant advice. My other good advice is always to pay close attention to Ravenwood's posts. My last bit of...
  14. I had uncontrolled D until I went gluten-free. I couldn't even make it to a bathroom fast enough sometimes. Are you totally gluten free? Have you tossed out old scratched non-stick pans and plastic/wooden utensils? I can't do the subject of cross-contamination justice, but if you use the search engine on this forum, you'll find a wealth of information...
  15. I'm so sorry you aren't doing well. What else are you eating? Egg white is more commonly an allergy, but I tested positive for the yolk, btw. That doesn't necessarily mean the same is true for you... Soy and dairy had the same "brain fog" effect on me as gluten within a few months of going gluten-free. I hope you feel better soon.
  16. I was inspired by Love2Travels posts, so tonight we had Horseradish crusted cod with carmelized onion balsamic jus & lemon basil infusion on a bed of mashed postatoes. It was amazingly good, and just from a couple of pieces of thawed out cod. OMG. Adapted from this recipe if anyone's interested. http://lakemagazine.com/recipes/recipedetail...
  17. Chrissy, I don't know if I have the answer. I understand your frustration with doctors. My mom had celiac disease and we lived miles apart from each other. I could tell when I talked on the phone with her when she'd had been having a bad bout (from being non-compliant with a gluten-free diet.) I'd fly home and start a diet of rice, mashed potatoes, cooked...
  18. No, it's not just you. Everybody's angry for the first month or so. It isn't fair. You have to read all of those labels and cook more. Grocery shopping is (at first) a nightmare. You have to plan, pack, think, you can't use processed foods. You're whole world gets set upside down, and all of a sudden your focus has to be on you, and how you'll cope...
  19. BobbyKat, You came to the right place to rant. I hear you. And I'm really impressed that you were just P.O., not crying your eyes out like I used to when I first started grocery shopping. I'll echo previous posts, it really does get so much easier. In fact, you'll spend much less time grocery shopping. Wish you well.
  20. It helps if you pack your lunches for work. It is superbly a pia, but it's better than the pia you get from not planning or packing. It has helped me to buy a package of romaine lettuce hearts every weekend. I chop and spin them, and stick them in gallon zip lock bags. You can alternate protein (tuna, if you can find it with just tuna and olive oil...
  21. The brat diet helped me figure out what was wrong. (Toast was a killer!) A diet of bananas, rice and apples for a few days made me finally stop having uncontrollable d. But we're all different... Blueberries are wonderfully good for diareahha, surprisingly. So maybe try a brab diet. (Bananas, rice, apples, blueberries.) Then start introducing...
  22. I think TGIF's has a gluten-free and separate soy free menu, if I recall. I tried going on their website to check for you, but didn't want the big PDF download for nutritional info. Can you call your local restaurant?
  23. Welcome to the forum, daddy. Sorry, there is no "minor" cc or gluten ingestion. Either/or will kick you hard, just like you described. Potlucks and picnics are fun when you bring your own food. You really cannot trust what other people bring, even beloved family members with the very best best intentions. Hope you feel better soon!
  24. Rosemary, grainy or dijon mustard and olive oil is really good with a little S&P, garlic if you wish. Use some for a marinade and some to baste while you grill.
