The What's For Dinner Tonight Chat
Marilyn R replied to jess-gf's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
[font="Comic Sans MS" We had stuffed mushrooms and fixed up rice (I added the extra sauteed ground pork, green onions and mushrooms to left over white rice.) It wasn''t bad, a solid "B" according to DP. -
ARCHIVED How To Read A Lyme Disease Panel
Marilyn R replied to Marilyn R's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Thanks, mushroom! Somebody who posted earlier sent me two PM's about how great she felt after having a doctor's (featured on the video) special progam. I considered the messages spam, and really appreciate the good advice from trusted posters. (She told me I could start eating gluten again if I'd follow his program and vitamins.) Message to person who... -
ARCHIVED Has Anyone Here Linked Nueropathy
Marilyn R replied to AVR1962's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi AVR, Dairy, soy and corn all had to be eliminated from my diet, in that order, after going gluten-free. I was able to reintroduce corn and dairy later, but I'm having some issues again. Here's a link on corn that might be helpful. www.cornallergens.com/ I freaked out when I saw the list of foods and additives that contain corn the first time... -
ARCHIVED How To Read A Lyme Disease Panel
Marilyn R replied to Marilyn R's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Wow that link was really helpful Skylark. I only had two panels that tested positive. CDC says you have to have 5 or more. The tx is anti-biotics, and that's not good for Lupus. Thanks again. -
ARCHIVED How To Read A Lyme Disease Panel
Marilyn R replied to Marilyn R's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I researched that test after the PCP called me. I don't recall the source, but I read that false positives are not uncommon if you have high levels of antibodies, an auto immune disease or are older. That's why I didn't pick up the antibiotics. The long term memory was significant to my I.D. doc because I did not travel at all in 2009 or 2010, went... -
ARCHIVED How To Read A Lyme Disease Panel

My girlfriend with severe Rheumatoid Arthritis says her rheumy checks her for Lyme disease once a year. Did different doctors order the Lyme disease panel or are you getting a re-check too? -
So my saga begins with my neurologist suggesting a Lyme Disease panel. I told her I didn't think that was pertinent, (I live in the deep South) but consented to the blood draw. Nobody called me after the test results, and I wasn't concerned, so I didn't call. (Old news for anyone who followed stupid doctor thread.) Four months later, when I was following...

ARCHIVED Refried Beans
Marilyn R replied to jackisue's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
:ph34r:I had to give up corn for about six months, even though it was a mainstay of my diet for a few months after going gluten-free. Your antibodies could be attacking a similar protein. -
I'm not worried about you eating the clementine, and figure (and hope) you aren't experiencing repercussions. I actually do believe sweet potato is a valid food to add to your diet. I went for a very long time undiagnosed and was really sick. My neighbor told me about seeing my DP at the grocery store trying to pick out a little sweet potato...

Grilled BBQ chick breasts, sweet potato for me, Idaho for him. Homemade daikon pickle. (Pickled white radish with cucumber and sliced carrots, lots of minced garlic and rice vinegar and fish sauce, some sliced onions and red pepper flakes and dill. I bought a watermelon radish at the farmers market today too, along with a kohlrabi, and a small bunch... -

Thank you mushroom. I just e-mailed myself the recipe after hitting the link. That looks yummy. -

Jestgar, you just got the ultimate lick of approval. -
Oops, sorry, you stated no carbs. Sorry about my not so good advice. One thing that helps me mentally when I'm challenged with my diet is to take a deep breath and think about how much better I'm doing now then how I was doing then. We didn't sign up for the club, and learning the ropes isn't easy, especially since they're different for everyone. Wishing...

ARCHIVED Soy
Marilyn R replied to Bob4962's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I think, and I could be wrong, but I think our autoimmune system went haywire, then went hyperactive. When we remove gluten, things get better for awhile, but our warrior cells got poised and ready to fight anything resembling the old foe. Soy and dairy protein are not all that unsimilar to the wheat protein, corn protein is close too. Some other grains... -

Cinnamon rice pudding and sliced banana. I'm going to put that in my regular breakfast repertoire. -

We had grilled Italian sausage, rice, and swiss chard sauted in garlic and olive oil. It kills me how you think you'll have way to much of the greens, and it ends up being a little bit. Conversation over dinner. Me: "I notice you don't seem to like the Chard." Him. "No, I don't like it." Me: "Try to think of it like a condiment. Him: "OK"... -
That was good advice. If you like sweet potatoes, they've been a mainstay for me. They're a good source of vitamins and fiber too. Good luck, let us know what happens with the test results.

ARCHIVED Celiac Panel Normal But Still Have Celiac?
Marilyn R replied to hbelle16's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi, and welcome to the forum. You know the old saying "If it walks like a duck...?" False negatives are commen. The best thing to do is to see if there is improvement from going gluten-free, imho. Others believe you should do a full gluten challenge (eat the equivalent of six pieces of bread a day, then get tested. The gold standard is, of course... -

Hey Linda, try this store locator. Open Original Shared Link checked it for Charleston today, and I'm blaming it on Lyrica. Took my last one this morning, too many side effects. This pizza has quite a bit of dairy though. There was another pizza at the gluten-free expo that was gluten-free DF that wasn't bad. The box was about 8", black on the edges... -

We had left over corned beef on Brazillian cheese bread with horseradish and the left over veggies. Chocolate chocolate chip gelato for dessert. It's always good to reward yourself for using up leftovers. -
ARCHIVED Not So Gluten Free
Marilyn R replied to Littllemel's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I absolutely love your Avatar Mel! Regarding your question, I've found that there are certain grains and other foods that don't agree with me, even though they are gluten-free and acceptable to other people with celiac disease or gluten intolerance. I react to quinoa, so I avoid a number of gluten-free products because they include quinoa seed or other... -

Last night we had slow cooker corned beef and cabbage with potatos, carrots and onion. Tonight I made vegetarian minestrone and DP smoked a chicken. I'd made cheese breadsticks and homemade applesauce too. It was a happy meal. -

Crossing my fingers & toes you get yours, I drive 30 something miles each way to get to the one WF by me. Frozen Against the Grain Pizza will make you want to slap your Mamma. Serious. Don't even have to doctor it up. Your local grocery store might bring it in, I have had some luck (good and bad) with asking for special stuff. Last time I made... -
If you find a girl you want to kiss more than once, buy her Merle Norman lipstick, or better yet get her a gift certificate and they'll pick the right shade of lipstick. It's gluten-free.

ARCHIVED What Kind Of Doctor . . . .
Marilyn R replied to JaneWhoLovesRain's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
First step, like you thought is seeing a dermo. If the first one isn't good, grab your records and go to another one. I've had more favorable results with doctors just setting up their practices. They're fresh out of school and willing to research if they don't know something. For ataxia, I'd see a neurologist before a gastro. Better advice, imho...
