ARCHIVED No One Thinks It's A Big Deal....
Marilyn R replied to Pandoranitemare's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If your experience is anything like mine has been, you're going to have responses that are all over the gamut. Some people will freak out and say "OMG, you poor thing! What in the world will you eat?" Others act like it's a figment of your imagination. It has helped me to research and become knowledgable, so even if I get supremely annoyed at certain... -
ARCHIVED How To Approach Parents
Marilyn R replied to RashyA's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi Rashy, My mom was diagnosed with it at Mayo Clinic in the early 1980's and was non-compliant the rest of her life. And she was an R.N. She lived in the North and I lived in the South and called her 1-3 times a week. I could always tell when she was about ready to crash so I'd fly up there and get her pedialyte and start her on bananas, rice, clear... -

DP smoked a duck today! We had smoked duck with homemade orange sauce (used coconut aminos and fish sauce to sub out the soy sauce the recipe called for with great results), jasmine rice cooked in stock made from the duck giblets, and green beans. I'm going to make duck soup with the carcass. I planned a dessert but we're both stuffed! Love2travel,... -
For the record, I've lived in my home for 12 years. I don't have a self cleaning oven and I used to cook yeast pies, breads, crumbles and all that in my oven. I'm ashamed to say I haven't cleaned the oven in 12 years. It has gluten globs of stuff on the bottom of the oven from stuff that has seeped out while cooking. If anyone can explain to me how the...

ARCHIVED Teeth Cleaning At Dentist's
Marilyn R replied to lovetapioca's topic in Super Sensitive People
I refused ex-rays for two years, but finally allowed my dear hygenist to take them. I have to go back because I have a large cavity. She is a blessed soul. I tried to put them off again and she sweet talked me into taking the x-rays. She promised she'd take them really fast and if I'd concentrate on breathing through my nose I'd be okay. At the end,... -
Sorry, just had to mention that this comment "I also react to ovens that are normally used for gluten baking. Not everyone here does, but there are many that do--including my boyfriend" is not substantiated. (No medical or scientific articles to back that up.) It's been questioned before. No offense to the OP, she's given me good advice before, but...

I received a reply back tonight from Lisa's link to corporate Olive Garden. It isn't standard operating procedure to dust the parmesan cheese with flour. They said they'd follow up.

I buy my rice flour from an oriental store and have never had a problem with it, and I'm pretty sensitive. I've used it in a variety of recipes. I just wish I could master thai rice pancakes! -

The hygenist said it was the Colgate Perigard, not the gum numbing agent. The active ingredient is Chlorhexidine Gluconate and is manufactured by a number of companies. Before it went generic, it was just known as Perigard by the trade, because they're who introduced it. I have a high gag reflex and I know I swallowed some. In her words, "That's heavy... -
ARCHIVED Question About Conflicting Diagnosis Results
Marilyn R replied to is1985's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I agree wholeheartedly with Bubba's Mom!!! And please pick up pathology reports from your endoscopy. (I found out I have another autoimmune disease by picking up old reports.) You can see for yourself how many biopsies were taken (should have been several), but the fact that you had a positive blood test is paramount. -
That makes me even more suspicious of the corn, but that could just be me. I haven't had a cold or the flu for 4 years even though I get exposed all the time because I work in Doctors' offices, hospitals and rehab centers. I look at it like I have a hyper autoimmune system that is waged for war. I used to get a bad cold at least twice a year. I'd try...

ARCHIVED Teeth Cleaning At Dentist's

I have a cleaning tomorrow. I'll ask the hygenist. I'm pretty sure I swallowed a little bit of the numbing agent by mistake. I detest going to the dentist. My parents were poor and elected to not pay for any pain killers, so the dentist would drill away on our teeth sans pain killer. I grip the armrails when I go in there. -
The margarine could be offending you, or possibly the corn. Corn was good for me for awhile and then whacked me. I have it occasionally now, but rotate it in my diet so it isn't a "staple" anymore. Hope you feel better soon. I'm curious, have they called to see how you're doing?

ARCHIVED I Can't Wrap My Head Around This...
Marilyn R replied to Pandoranitemare's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I don't know if UK doctors make you go for an endoscopy to confirm the blood test or not. If so, you theoretically have a reason to justify continuing to enjoy your favorites until you have the procedure. Your post made me wonder what I'd want if I knew it would be my last meal. I thought Lobster or Stone Crab with Drawn Butter, Filet Mignon, twice... -

I was at my sister's for Easter and helping with preparations for dinner. I stirred the mac and cheese (not gluten-free), and some sauce splashed on my fingers. It was hot and I licked it off. Then I said OMG I just licked your mac & cheese off my fingers! My sister offered me Listerine. I'm hoping that wee bit of cc doesn't get me. -
ARCHIVED Testing For Lupus And Other Blood Clotting Disorders?
Marilyn R replied to Blue-eyed bandit's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
It is overwhelming. You're going to be okay though. When I get overwhelmed, I sit down with a piece of paper and write down what's important now. About three years ago my DP and I were at the golf course and I got really frustrated because I wasn't playing well at all. He told me that it wasn't all about getting the ball in the hole. He said it... -
ARCHIVED Weird Looking "object" In Gluten-Free Mall Banner
Marilyn R replied to RiceGuy's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
"X" marks the spot where you don't want gluten? The red thing looks like a spiny tailed lobster to me. Rice guy, come to the rescue, inquiring minds want to know. -
I used your earlier link to contact them tonight. Did they ever respond to you, Lisa?

ARCHIVED Testing For Lupus And Other Blood Clotting Disorders?
Marilyn R replied to Blue-eyed bandit's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I don't know yet if it's systemic. I have an appt. with a rheumatologist later this month, it took awhile to get in as a new patient. Until they tell me otherwise, I don't have it. Doing the "What if ..." mind game is pretty counterproductive to my state of well being, so I really try to stop myself from doing that. If it does end up being SLE... -

ARCHIVED Testing For Lupus And Other Blood Clotting Disorders?
Marilyn R replied to Blue-eyed bandit's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
You caught me at a good time, lol, because I just got glutened three days ago off a gluten-free menu at a national chain restaurant. I believe you should not ever frigging cheat on the gluten-free diet, no matter what! That is really your first line of defense. Worrying, stress and anxiety can be triggers for Lupus, so you have to try not to go... -
ARCHIVED Testing For Lupus And Other Blood Clotting Disorders?
Marilyn R replied to Blue-eyed bandit's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I think you have an exceptionally good dermatologist. I have tested positive for lupus from two deep skin biopsies but went undiagnosed for several years, even though I had the "wolf bite" lesions and had been seeing a derm for years. My sun exposure lupus rashes were lacy, I always said, wow, look at that roadmap on my thighs. If you're dermatologist... -

I had that happen about 18 months ago! I called the hygenist and told her about the "allergic" reaction. She gave me a list of every product, complete with mfg. she used. I spent quite a bit of time researching. I called her back and told her I thought it was the gum numbing agent. I can't remember the name of the product or manufacturer, but it was...
