ARCHIVED Cross Contamination?
SaraKat replied to jazzbaby's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I would eat that. The ones I stay away from are the ones that say they are produced on the same equipment. -
ARCHIVED Why Does My Hair Look Like Crap Since Celiac
SaraKat replied to Lexi's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Have you had your thyroid checked? I only ask because before I got dx'd with celiac my TSH was high- so I was a little hypothyroid and they put me on 25mcg of Synthroid and my hair looks great now. It was looking really awful for a couple years before I went on Synthroid, I always thought it was from the highlighting or something, but I guess not. My... -
ARCHIVED Some Possible Light On My Situation
SaraKat replied to scottyg354's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
maltodextrin doesn't have gluten as far as I know- if this is what you are asking. I just found this: Maltodextrin is gluten free. It can be made from a variety of starches, including corn, potato, rice or wheat. However the source does not matter because maltodextrin is such a highly processed ingredient that the protein is removed, rendering it gluten... -
ARCHIVED Tanning Beds To Increase Vit D?
SaraKat replied to meme2kids's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I used to be a tanning bed person in my teens and 20's and I had a skin cancer removed last year on my shoulder. I would not advise tanning bed use at all. I would try the supplement as the other poster mentioned. -
ARCHIVED Was My Girlfriend Out Of Line?
SaraKat replied to jasonD2's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You didn't do anything wrong, she was probably just frustrated. I feel bad when I go out with my husband and something bad happens with the food and I have to send it back or be pushy. It kind of can ruin the mood of the evening, but he is understanding usually. -
A little bit. I was also anemic for years with no explanations. Everytime I would get a physical I would always be anemic. No Dr made it seem like a big deal, so I didn't either because I felt OK, always kind of tired, but got by. Then, in 2009 I started getting the joint pain (in the ribcage) and I had a few more blood tests and this time they tested...

ARCHIVED Please Help- Newly Diagnosed
SaraKat replied to taffers's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Did they tell you to get an endoscopy too or have a follow up appt? Welcome to this site, I have found it amazing since I have been diagnosed (in the fall). Sounds like you def have it, but usually they will want to biopsy the intestine too to see the damage. The diet isn't that bad, it takes some learning at the beginning, but once you know what... -
ARCHIVED Apples
SaraKat replied to twe0708's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
No, apples and PB have been one thing I have been eating a lot of since the diagnosis. I agree it might be a morning thing though, I usually eat them in afternoon. Maybe try changing the time up? -
ARCHIVED Are Hershey's Miniatures Gluten Free?
SaraKat replied to SaraKat's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I really think the minis have gluten. I was feeling so great from Oct-Dec and then during xmas I was eating the minis a lot since they were laying around during the holidays. I probably had 5-10 a day for a week straight. I started having my celiac symptom of left sided pain and couldn't pin point as to why. Before I ate the minis I Googled Hershey... -
ARCHIVED Doctor Of Internal Medicine Vs. Gi
SaraKat replied to salexander421's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
A rheumatologist ran my celiac panel which was positive and then referred me to a GI Dr. I have been seeing him since. He did the endoscopy and I have my follow up blood test with him in a few weeks. I was wondering the same thing though- he told me it is just blood tests from now on, so I am thinking I could just go to my regular Dr. My GI seems pretty... -
ARCHIVED Are Hershey's Miniatures Gluten Free?
SaraKat posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I read somewhere that the regular sized bars are, but the minis aren't? Specifically the milk, special dark, and mr goodbar. I know the Crispy ones aren't. Anyone know for sure? -
ARCHIVED Cappuccino Chocolate Topping
SaraKat replied to Vikki's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
From my experience chocolate is iffy, you have to read each brand's labels. Sorry probably not much help! -
ARCHIVED Dealing With Doctors...help?
SaraKat replied to WesternMA12's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I would ask the dermatologist to biopsy the rash. I would also get a copy of the blood work, see if they tested Reticulin AB. I heard that one is usually positive for celiacs that have DH. I had a rash behind my knees in the summer and my derm biopsied it and it was not DH, it was an eruptive syringoma. There are a lot of skin conditions out there... -
ARCHIVED Ttg-Iga And Biopsy Question?
SaraKat replied to stavreski's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I doubt it. I had a positive blood test for celiac 8/15, I had the endoscopy 8/31 and I stopped eating gluten when I got my blood test (I know I shouldn't have, but I felt so crappy I did). Looking back it wasn't 100% gluten-free though since there is so much to learn on the diet. Anyway, my endoscopy was positive and I was given another blood test... -
ARCHIVED Poll- How Tall Are You?
SaraKat replied to Cinnamongirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I am 5'9" and was dx'd at 35. My Dr told me it definitely was triggered after childhood or I wouldn't be this tall. -
ARCHIVED Tissue Transglutamase Number
SaraKat replied to anna34's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It sounds like you have it. I think my original number was 38 (with the same range you had) and my endoscopy was very positive. -
ARCHIVED Endoscopy...
SaraKat replied to Jaymie Jaymz's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I am the biggest scaredy cat with medical stuff- I used to faint getting my blood tested. Honestly the endo was not bad at all- I don't remember any of it and it was super quick. The worst part was getting to the hospital at 6:30AM! No big deal at all. -
ARCHIVED Probiotics In Greek Yogurt?
SaraKat posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I know nothing about probiotis, but I hear them being mentioned here a lot as being good. I just noticed they are advertised on my Chobani yogurt that I started eating a couple months ago. Is one yogurt enough probiotics on a daily basis to help? -
ARCHIVED Stools - Horrible Topic
SaraKat replied to twe0708's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I was diagnosed in Sept, I never have/had abnormal stools- unless I was sick or something. So strange how this disease affects peopel differently. -
ARCHIVED Didn't Even Know I Was Being Tested
SaraKat replied to jeslk's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It looks like you definitely have celiac- I think they say false negatives are common, but false positives are not. I would have the endoscopy- that way they can see how bad your damage is. How old are you if you don't mind me asking? I just got dx'd in September with no GI issues. Why did your Dr test you for celiac? What were your symptoms? ... -
ARCHIVED Should I Push For Biopsy Either Way?
SaraKat replied to zebaldwin's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I didn't have any GI issues, but my blood was very positive. If it was negative I probably would not have had the biopsy. -
ARCHIVED When Will I Be Able To Cope With This?
SaraKat replied to CJoy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I was diagnosed in August 2010 and I am 35. I get down about the diagnosis when I am not feeling well (like now). I have had 3 bouts of not feeling well since the diagnosis. It is hard, but I try not to get too down. I try to exercise a lot, usually I can do that even when I am not feeling well. My main symptom is pain in my left side and when it is... -
ARCHIVED Breathing Issues After Exercising And Pressure In Head
SaraKat replied to krishna's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I get breathing issues sometimes too- I attribute it to anxiety since I have had so many tests and everything seems to be OK. I definitely am an anxious person and the celiac dx didn't help! LOL -
ARCHIVED Question About Follow Up Blood Test
SaraKat posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi- I was dx'd in August and my levels were really high. I have to get my follow up blood test next week and I have a question- I have been pretty strict with my diet, but I do know of 4 definite glutenings and I think over XMAS some of the chocolate I was eating had gluten (since I had some pain). My question is: if you are gluten-free for 6 months... -
ARCHIVED Newly Diagnosed
SaraKat replied to Jill0711's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I was just dx'd in Sept and I was at a party the week later and someone gave me a piece of pie for dessert and I started eating it, my best friend was like- are you supposed to be eating that?? Totally hard to break the habits, I can relate! Where was your pain pre-diagnosis?
