  1. I know I found a recipie for a nut crust. Which wouldn't be far off from the nut topped pumpkin pie we serve for Thanksgiving. I am hosting Thanksgiving this year for 20+...and everything I make will be gluten free. I haven't started looking yet, but I know there great wild rice stuffing recipies out there...if you go back to the first Thanksgiving,...
  2. I wonder if this explains my "heartburn" after eating homebaked treats?
  3. I empathize with you. I have been fortunate as my family has been supportive, though need regular education. I have always been one to volunteer to bring food to family events, so I will plan to keep doing the same...except now it will be gluten-free. My DS has been gluten-free for a while, so he appreciates it as well.
  4. I have continued to use my stoneware, post gluten-free, with no issue. I also an not super sensitive, so consider that in making your choices.
  5. I would go. All the parties I have had and been at, the food is at the end when everyone is pouring over the catelog. No one will really notice if you eat, or not. I have went pre-gluten-free, and not ate anything as I was "trying to be good" on my diet (to lose weight). It really doesnt' seem to be much different to me. OR, you could offer to bring...
  6. Don't hesitate to call ahead to restaurants to ask about gluten free meals. I am amazed at how many are in my area who are at least attempting to get the gluten free right. We have one local bar who has a gluten free section in their regular menu! They have a dedicated fryer for fries and chicken wings! Places are trying. Some are better than others...
  7. Sorry they can't be more supportive. I agree, I would be too! Make sure hubby knows how much you appreciate his support.
  8. I'm realatively new to this too, but I have definately found the sorghum flour/tapioca/corn starch blend to work great. I do have about 10 different flours right now, so I mix a bit. I also like the King Arthur all purpose mix better than Bob's Red Mill. I found I am not a big fan of the bean flours...they taste metalic to me, espeically in cookies. If...
  9. The gluten free pantry pizza crusts are good. Then again, mine gets loaded with so many veggies the crust is basically only there to get it to my mouth!
  10. I think they just don't think. Unless you have been through the misery of how it affects you, they can't imagine what it would be like. Frustrating! But....maybe we are insensitive or careless with someone else's burden that they carry, without even realizing it.
  11. I was tested for DQ2 and DQ8. One of them was positive (I don't remember which at this moment and am too lazy to go find the paper ) However, my GI dx me with Celiac, due to having previously doing an endoscopy which found "something in the biopsy which looks like" I had celiac. (I was too uneducated at that time to ask more questions, but I follow up...
  12. Just make sure you grab the gluten free ones from Bob's....I didn't notice mine were not gluten-free until I got home. They have both kinds.
  13. Not sure if this is related or not, but my friend has severe asthma due to allergies. She cannot eat zuchinni, cucumbers, etc, especially when her asthma is at it's worst. (pretty much anything that is ripening or being harvested at this time of the year)
  14. I don't know much about they symptoms of menieres, but you mentioned dizziness. My worst symptoms have been dizziness, migraines, tingling in arms and legs when I have gluten. I was diagnosed in a odd way, as I didn't have GI issues. I had chalked all my other sypmtoms up to arthritis and old age. Now, 2 months after being gluten-free, I don't have the...
  15. I didn't vote as I have only been gluten-free for 2 months. I have noticed a HUGE improvement in things I didn't even realize could have been related. Migraines, muschle twitches, tingling in arms and leg, dizziness, memory, word retrieval. I don't think I went a long time undiagnosed like many I have read about, so I am thinking I might have just been...
  16. I met my DH on a dating website. We were married 13 months after we met. It will be 5 years this New Year's eve. He is a wonderful support as well when I went gluten-free 2 months ago. He loves my baking and we always eat the same meals (at least at home). Dinners out are at places that offer gluten-free menus. There are lots of great men out there...
  17. My DD's school hosted "guest for lunch". So of course I signed up and sent my lunch money in. I TOTALLY forgot that I most likely wouldn't be able to eat lunch there. Does this mean I have totally simulated this diet into my life...or that I am in total denial??? Luckily my brain resurfaced and I ate before I went. I also brought my yoplait yogurt so...
  18. I really don't cook different when I have company. Usually people are surprised that they are eating gluten free foods. I'm not sure what your typical meals are like, or if it's just casual "snacking". If you weren'y gluten free what might you do?
  19. I just found Dannon Activia Desserts. I emailed the company and have yet to get a reply. I have a feeling the yogurt I bought will be going to my co-workers. I won't take a chance given what I have read.
  20. I did find a recipe for gluten free egg noodles. I just googled it when I went gluten-free. The only issue I had when I made them was it was hard to roll them thin. I was putting them in chicken soup, so it worked as they were more like a thin dumpling. (assuming you aren't expecting the fluffy types of dumplings, which I learned recently are pretty regional...
  21. Pie crust always seems to have a lot of fat. Have you looked into the vinegar pie crust? It has 3/4 c shortening but makes 2 crusts. I don't know if this is better or worse than what the others are. (But it is supposed to be good.) I haven't tried pie since going gluten free. Though I just picked 50# of apples so I am sure I will sometime in the next...
  22. Love this idea. Have you tried it??? I just went apple picking...I just might have to try this!
  23. Thanks for all of the information and suggestions. I did call ahead and they have a gluten free menu We arrived 15 minutes than everyone else, so I could order and have my food delivered when everyone else was going through the buffet.
  24. I had localized pain under my right rib cage. The best way I could explain it was someone's fist was under my rib cage. I saw my Dr. who ordered ultrasound and then a HIDA scan. When the HIDA scan was negative, they sent me to the GI dr. My GI doc asked if the HIDA scan reproduced my pain, which it did. He believed it was my gallbladder, but ordered...
  25. I wasn't clear if you had an answer for the upper right quadrant stomach (abdominal) pain. Mine was gallbladder. It was through this and ruling out anything else that they found my celiac. It is common in celiac to have gallbladder issues.
