  1. My friend brought me the beef fried rice, but I haven't tried it yet. I am sooo glad General Mills is so supportive. I think I have to write them!
  2. I have a super easy recipe. 2 lbs hamburger (as lean or not as you like), cooked 4 (16oz)can's Bush's Chili Beans (yup, gluten-free) 2 (14.5oz)can's tomatoes with green chilis 1 (28oz) large can pureed tomatoes (or diced, if you like the chunks...my kids don't) Add some gluten-free chili powder(2-4 Tbsps)depending on your taste. (You will just...
  3. I like he recipe on the back of the package for BRM Potato Starch. I used my regular ole' bread maker. I just watch that the dry ingrediants get incorporated (I will scrape it down as it's mixing if it isn't getting everything) I've shared with non gluten-free friends at work, and no one noticed a difference. It is a denser, more traditional homemade...
  4. Bob's Mighty Tastey Hot Cereal is great...though it's more like cream of wheat (and I was a die hard CoW lover!). I did find Glutenfreeda instant oatmeal at Whole Foods, but I haven't tried it yet. (Maybe tomorrow...it's getting cold! )
  5. 1. Female 2.42 3. 3 months 4. Not diagnosed, but I think at least 2 others do. 5. I am not super sensitve. I didn't have typical symptoms. Things I thought were age related have went away (And, i didn't get younger!! ) 6. I have found several restaurants that are gluten-free, but other than those, yes, it's difficult. 7. I definately believe...
  6. I have had hot chocolate at home that was fine. So...when I was freezing at a recent football game I decided to get hot chocolate...I haven't had issues with it! WRONG! The stuff they use at the game must have wheat. It took me two tries to figure that out!
  7. With eating more pasta, does that mean more tomatoes? I have heard of people having issues with arthritis when eating the "nightshade" vegetables. I do have arthritis pain this week, too. I know I was glutened over the weekend as have had GI issues the last couple of days. But since I am in Wisconsin your pressure issues are headed this way, so I'm not...
  8. I pulled out my gluten free gourmet by Betty Hagman...she talks about flours and why they work and don't work in replacements. Wheat flour has 76% Carbohydrates, 10% protein, 1% fat, and 3% fiber. Millet flour has 73% carbohydrates, 10% Protein, 3% fat, and 3% fiber. It seems like a close match. Though she usually recommends mixing...it is worth a try...
  9. ???Packaged in a flour factory???
  10. I tried the think thin bars. They are okay. Kind of chalky. My friend had gastric bypass and needs lots of protein with out sugar, so the think thin bars worked for her. They are better than nothing. (I love the Kind bars, so I choose those first.) I also get the Nature Valley Nut Crunch, but those are all nuts, too, so they probably wouldn't work for...
  11. Wondering if anyone has tried these crackers. I bought some today. They are very tasty, but I am getting a funny aftertaste. The best I can describe it is a tast similar to what algae smells (chlorophyll taste??? mold??). I am wondering if this is the way these taste, or if I might have gotten some which are spoiling. I will try contacting the company...
  12. Have you asked her? I would start there. Maybe she would like to "collect" gifts for less fortunate kids. I have seen children do birthday parties where all the toys the get, they give to charity. This age is difficult (mine are 16, 18, 19, and 22, so they have all kinds of "wants" now! )
  13. I haven't been able to find Rudi's, not even at the WF which I trekked 1 1/2 hours to. Guess, I will settle for Udi's
  14. I got my Kind bars by the case from Amazon. Great price!
  15. I have found on all of the Nestle Coffee Mate non-dairy creamer, the specific phrase gluten free. (I am not informed about dairy so I dont' know if that would be safe or not.)
  16. :blink:I read this thread when it was just a couple pages long...so maybe someone has touched on this. I was reading a cook book on baking gluten-free...they were talking about altitude changes. Is it possible the difference in Udi's comparent to us around sea level is the altitude???
  17. I will Udi's (online you can get a coupon for $1 off). I also make bread in my bread machine (very simple) I have used Bob's Red Mill mix which was good. I tried Namaste (sp???) but I didn't care for that. I also found a recipe for Our Favorite Whit Bread on the back of the bag of Bob's Red Mill Potatoe Starch. That has been my favorite homemade so far...
  18. I used a mushroom mix with spinach (and garlic of course) to stuff a beef roast. I have used it to stuff chicken breasts, too. Yummy!!!
  19. I have to say Ancient Harvest Quinoa is my favorite. I am not fond of the rice noodles, but they are better than nothing. My DH who is not gluten-free, prefers the Ancient Harvest as well. I ordered some from Amazon in bulk and the case. I also found some at Whole Foods on sale when I ventured to Milwaukee. Couldn't you use penne in place of rigatoni...
  20. According to this list Mucinex is safe. Open Original Shared Link And from this one...the Daniel's should be fine, too. Open Original Shared Link Hope you feel better.
  21. I had two similar experiences this week! 1. At the Grocery store, they had a marinated roast with sample. They were wonderful and checked the marinate (and I got a list of gluten free meats from the meat counter, so BONUS), then proceeded to offer me a sample, and stuck a pretzel in it! 2. I called ahead to a restaurant to see if they offered anything...
  22. I understand where your concern/opinion comes from. I have been lucky and truly found my celiac before I was terribly sick, and I haven't had many issues since. But, it also seems reasonable to me that someone who has been sick for a long time...with lots of damage to their system will be very concerned and sensitive to small amounts of gluten. I did not...
