ARCHIVED Survey For People With Celiac Disease
Emilushka replied to Kayhere512's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
1. Sex: Female 2. Age: 27 3. How long ago were you diagnosed with celiac disease? 1.5 months ago 4. Does anyone in your family have celiac disease? No 5. How severe is your celiac disease? Undetermined, but I don't think I'm super-sensitive. I haven't had any gluten since diagnosis that I know of. 6. Is it difficult to eat out at restaurants... -
My doc mentioned it at my appointment. Not sure how long it'll take to get to the US for trials. I'm sure it depends on how much success the Australians have.

ARCHIVED Gluten Free For Two Months
Emilushka replied to tbritt's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Have you explained the bit about your livelihood depending on it to your docs? Some will diagnose you (which means you're set) based on the response to the diet. It might make all the difference for everybody else. -
ARCHIVED Destination Wedding/elopement
Emilushka replied to shellyinskiatook's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
My fiance and I are going to Las Vegas over Thanksgiving. I'll let you know how it turns out! -
Make sure your vitamin levels are where they need to be once you've healed. When you've made sure you're getting enough folate and prenatal vitamins, go for it! If you have trouble, your doc can help you find out why.

The more I hear about Disney (the cruises, the theme parks, etc) and the way they really try to treat you well, the more I want to give them my business. The cost scared me away at first, but my health is totally worth it. Thanks for the report back!

See your doctor. This could be B12 deficiency but it could be a lot of other things, too. It's time to get a workup and make sure it's not something more serious. Please do go in.

ARCHIVED How Long Until The Gluten Craving Goes Away?
Emilushka replied to luispgsf's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I'm close to your boat. I dream about pastas and cheeses (I'm gluten- and dairy-free). I can't fight the dreams, but I do fight the daytime cravings by avoiding triggers and finding interesting foods that are naturally gluten-free. That seems to be the best that I can do at this point. I'd love to know how long it takes to stop dreaming about the things... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free For Two Months
Emilushka replied to tbritt's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If you're female and thinking of getting pregnant, make sure you've spoken with your OB beforehand about how much folate and how many prenatal vitamins to take. If you're deficient, you may need to take more supplements than you previously thought. Double-check your vitamins and medications to make sure they don't contain any wheat products as filler.... -
ARCHIVED Celiacs And Mental Instability
Emilushka replied to Hamster101's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yeah. One stupid doctor when you were younger should not stop you from getting help you obviously do need. Doctors aren't always right, and I think in this case, your doc really was VERY wrong. Thank goodness for having a new doctor! Give this one a chance. Hopefully (s)he isn't going to be a dummy. Let us know how it goes! -
ARCHIVED I'm Feeling Worse Since Going gluten-free
Emilushka replied to rose-thorn98's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
This shouldn't be from the biopsies or endoscopy, especially this long afterward. What are you eating these days? Some foods are more likely to cause reflux than others. -
ARCHIVED Looking For Chili Recipe
Emilushka replied to Wenmin's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips

ARCHIVED 1St Normal Stool In Months
Emilushka replied to loubyloo's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
YAY! Congratulations! I'm still working towards that ... I will get there soon, I hope! 5 weeks gluten-free, 2 weeks dairy-free. I feel tons better and my poops are better, but not "normal". I will get there. BUT HOORAY FOR YOU! YAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAAYY!!!! -
ARCHIVED Celiacs And Mental Instability
Emilushka replied to Hamster101's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Whether or not the gluten trouble started the mood instability, at this point, it might be helpful to you to seek treatment just for that since it must have had a profound impact on you after being part of your life for so long. I'm almost an MD (degree on 6/3/11! SOON!) and if I were your doc, I would recommend you see someone just because it sounds like... -
YAYAYAYAYAYAYAAYAYAYAYAY!

The folic acid thing is actually a public health measure (the same is done with bread and cereals) that was put in place to help protect babies before the moms know they're pregnant. Most of the spinal cord and central nervous system in a fetus is formed before a woman would know she was pregnant (unless she was consistently taking pregnancy tests every single...

ARCHIVED Looking For Chili Recipe
Emilushka replied to Wenmin's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
You mean Bush's? I bought within the last couple weeks, so yes, recent. -
I usually don't bother rinsing rice, but I always rinse quinoa. Brown rice is healthier than white rice. White rice is pretty much like white bread.

ARCHIVED Develop Celiac Disease At 35
Emilushka replied to uruboy02's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I was diagnosed 3 days after turning 27. Nobody else in my family has Celiac. Celiac's a sneaky one. -
ARCHIVED Looking For Chili Recipe
Emilushka replied to Wenmin's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Bush's Chili Beans don't use gluten in their chili sauce, if you're looking for a little help with the seasoning. I checked their ingredients and couldn't find a single gluten ingredient on there (and no warnings about cross-contamination). HOWEVER if you are super-sensitive, be careful or check with the company before buying because I haven't actually cooked... -
ARCHIVED I Have Celiac, But No Sickness When I Cheat... Help!
Emilushka replied to moats1234's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I agree completely with what others have said already. I just wanted to add that you should remember that cheating increases not only temporary damage to your gut but also your potential risk for cancers - lymphoma isn't a joking matter and continued activation of your immune system and damage to your gut does predispose you more and more to getting it. All... -
ARCHIVED Not A Good Day At The Hospital And Feel So Lost Now.
Emilushka replied to Dellers's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I'm sorry the doc was mean to you. That really sucks. I don't have new info to add, just wanted to add my support. -
ARCHIVED Test Results-Elevated Anti Gliadin
Emilushka replied to suzanne*'s topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The way these tests work, they bind your blood antibodies to a panel of antibodies that they have in stock. It's possible for your antibodies to bind to their panel a little bit, even if you don't actually have antibodies against gliadin. That's why "normal" isn't only zero. Antibodies aren't perfect, and they can bind a little bit to things they're not designed... -
ARCHIVED I'm So Confused
Emilushka replied to chucksusanandgrace's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The anticardiolipin antibody is more classic for things like lupus. The C reactive protein just lets us know that you definitely have some inflammation going on, but it's not specific to anything. The rest of it could be from having all the diarrhea, but those deficiencies would make a lot of sense for Celiac, too. Read up a bit more on specific foods... -
ARCHIVED Suicidal Sister Needs Help.
Emilushka replied to revenant's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Can you get your sister into therapy at all? She needs a good therapist and probably some antidepressant or mood stabilizing medication. Depression is serious and dangerous and while I agree that Celiac could definitely be contributing, without getting her the mental health support she needs I don't think the Celiac is going to be something she can tackle...
