  1. 1. No, the endoscopy doesn't hurt and it's not even uncomfortable. At worst, you'll be hungry from fasting from the night before. You'll be woozy from cold medications and won't feel or remember a thing. The pill cam won't help because the doctors need to take biopsies. Celiac can only be diagnosed under a microscope. 2. You don't need to load up if you...
  2. Unfortunately, it come be something completely random. I itch if I eat strawberries. No rash, no hives, no other issues. Just all over itching. I'm okay with any other fruit. Could you start subbing out things that you eat regularly one at a time?
  3. It depends on the brand. Some broths have gluten in them; some don't.
  4. I don't have any experience with rice milk so someone else will have to charm in but the hidden barely in Rice Dream
  5. It's not Rice Dream rice milk, right? That has hidden gluten in it.
  6. Silk Pure Almond milk is delicious. I'm a big fan of the Dark Chocolate and Vanilla versions. Gluten, dairy, and soy free. And Earth Balance makes a great dairy-free, soy-free "butter."
  7. I agree with everything domesticactivist said. Sometimes it seems like it would be easier to just burn the house down and rebuild it but the big purge and clean is worth it — if only for piece of mind.
  8. There's a store locator on their website that should help.
  9. Have you considered speaking to a counselor or a therapist? This sounds like something you really need to get a handle on before it spins even further out of control.
  10. Daiya is dairy-free (and soy-free). (daiyafoods.com) EDIT: Suppose I need to scroll.
  11. Don't stress too much about the wisdom teeth. My mouth ached some for the first day and I felt absolutely fine the next day. I was just paranoid about the socket. By the second day, I was eating soft rice and noodles. Plan to veg out with a good book or a few movies.
  12. It's interesting but I wouldn't touch it either. Food is just food. I value my health more than a sandwich or slice of pizza.
  13. You're absolutely right that being gluten-free can give you a false negative on the biopsy. It would be up to you whether or not you challenge gluten
  14. Aw, I wasn't trying to make you feel bad. There's nothing wrong with a lot mini meals throughout the day. But I think you'll find things will go a lot more smoothly if you try to keep your food as simple as possible. You don't have to eat like a monk but remember that Celiacs have to heal from intestinal damage and you're really doing your body a big favor...
  15. Celiac Disease is a genetic disorder so it's definitely possible.
  16. You mean endoscopy, right? Celiac can't be diagnosed through colonoscopy. If a doctor tried, that may be where the negative comes from. But good for the doctor encouraging you and your son to stay gluten-free based on dietary results. Not all doctors are so enlightened. For the original poster, testing for children can be wildly inaccurate because they...
  17. I wish spell check had never been invented.
  18. Does anyone have a problem with this particular spaghetti sticking together while it's cooking? I used to cook regular spaghetti with no problems but I seem to spend a lot of time separating Heartland spaghetti while I'm cooking it.
  19. This is a little unfair. I was born via c-section, bottle fed because I was adopted, had all my vaccines, grew up eating wheat, and was a world champion milk drinker. I've never had any health problems outside of my Celiac diagnosis
  20. I don't think any Celiacs should take a chance on something that says "May contain wheat." Shared equipment, that's your own discretion. But if it says it may contain wheat, it's going right back on the shelf for me.
  21. 1. It's a genetic disease. 2. It's full of sweeteners and other things that aren't good for you. It's possible you could also have a problem with fructose but it's likely that it just disagrees with you. 3. The American medical system isn't known for its expedience. Everything takes a long time. 4. You were diagnosed. By the blood test. If your numbers...
  22. Aw, pictures to hang on the refrigerator! I wish I'd gotten pictures. Happy birthday and congratulations. Imagine how much better you'll feel for your next birthday.
  23. Congratulations! That's really great to hear.
  24. That's my favorite gluten-free pasta too. The only thing I don't like about it is how fast it gets cold. Our Walmart keeps it in the regular pasta section
