Rowena replied to Amtza's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
So good to hear... Heads up, I've had great success with the fragrance free 365 shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, and hand soap at WF. Just thought that you would like to know that. Also Tom's of Maine products are excellent. -
Getting Started On Gluten Free
Rowena commented on Feelinggoodatlast's blog entry in Feelinggoodatlast's Blog
[i]Feelinggoodatlast- First of all, welcome to our site. There are lots of friendly people here, and all very helpful. Don't be afraid to ask questions. It might take a bit of time to get an answer, but such is the way of forums, especially ones like this that cater to all sorts of places. Secondly, congratulations on starting your first week and... -

Time to take your princess dresses and princely tailcoats and go dance in the snow people! NOW! Before it disappears... Oh wait I'm in utah. It won't disappear. Snowball fight!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *tosses snowballs* -
Argh... Its not even Halloween yet, and guess what? We got like 4 inches of snow or so in the valley. Probably a good foot and a half in the Mountains. I really should be used to this by now, after the almost six years of living here. It snows every Halloween. But no... I ain't. Whatever happened to fall? It feels like we only had like not even a month...

ARCHIVED Looking For Chili Recipe
Rowena replied to Wenmin's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
There are definitely some chili powders that don't have gluten in them. I am pretty sure McCormick spices don't use gluten in anything. At least that's what I have read just about everywhere. I think that it says that on their site somewhere. I know my search for gluten free vanilla showed up with McCormick being one of the safest ones. (Strangely our... -
Cass- I got my thyroid checked (finally, when I got a new doctor who wasn't so arrogant and knew what she was doing. Same doctor also was the one who checked for celiac, but when it was negative and I was showing positive results on my diet, diagnosed me as gluten intolerant.) And thankfully it looks good. The only thing that shows up on any tests is a slightly...

But I can tell ye, ye ain't the only one who reacts... -
ARCHIVED Back From The Wedding
Rowena replied to ravenwoodglass's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I rarely eat at weddings anyway, because I am a really picky eater and thus rarely like the food. (Didn't even really eat the food at my wedding, in part because I busy talkin to all my friends and family. It was a small luncheon. Thank Goodness! Not a big people person meself) Or they have a million desserts. All chocolate... GRRR So my wedding problems... -
ARCHIVED Wheat Grass, Barely Grass? Ya Or Nay?
Rowena replied to Wheat Wacker's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I am of the mindset, like the above, (as much as I loved wheat grass) that you should "avoid the very appearance of evil." Not that wheat grass is Evil persay, but for us it is in a way. But really the decision is up to you. But I personally say don't do it. Not that I am an expert on this diet yet by any means, but that is my opinion -
So the other day, my dad was sworn in to be a Utah attorney. (Cool Experience to see by the way). My mom calls me the day before, "Oh yeah, honey, we're goin out to lunch before hand. We were going to try the Restaurant at the Joseph Smith Memorial building. That okay?" So I hesitate, because it wasn't on the list of safe restaurants that the Celiac...

ARCHIVED Whatever You Do, Dont...
Rowena posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
...shop at gluten free.com. You can shop elsewhere and save not only on shippin but on prices too. I was lookin at prices there, and it made Whole foods look cheap. And beyond that, there is no benefit to buyin in bulk. Its the same price as if you bought however many they have in "bulk" So if you are lookin for deals, this definitely aint the place to do... -
Missys Mom... Now thats a lack of common sense if I ever heard it. I have to rant about another lack of common sense. Let me preface this with the fact that I dont use my cell phone at work for two reasons. 1) I believe its rude when in a professional environment (I work in a law firm) 2) I have my own extension at work anyway. Anyway, in my firm we...

ARCHIVED Need Some Bread Recipes
Rowena replied to SGWhiskers's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I just tried Pamelas bread mix...Absolutely delicious. Also, you dont have to have a gluten-free bread maker, pamelas actually suggests usin a normal settin for the bread... Turns out well... Anyway, pamelas is a white bread mix. I think the little boy might love it. As for other recipes, I aint tried none, but my breadmaker came with a cookbook includin... -
So on friday I went to the pharmacy to pick up my medicines (I take way too many...) And so I asked the pharmacist if she knew of any face washes that were gluten free. She highly recommended CeraVe. So I've tried it, but it makes my face burn and turn reddish. I looked in the ingredients to see if the other ingredient I am allergic too was in it, (the main...

Its essentially in Downtown SLC. There are two locations: 900 south and 900 east or 1500 South and 1500 East. (We went to the 9th and 9th one) I highly recommend it when ye come in March. As for the Sweet Cake Bake Shop, no I aint tried it. Though I will have to look it up and try it. I am always open to new places I can eat at.

I probably should consult with my doctor about this too, but I was wonderin, if I have been sufferin problems with period irregularity, and bein unable to get pregnant, how lon after goin gluten-free should I wait to try again and see if it was because of my gluten intolerance? I feel a million and one times better, and such but I want to make sure I do this...

This restaurant is where we went to celebrate my dad's swearin in into the Utah bar. (I am so proud of him by the way) Anyway, insanely good food. They not only have gluten free options, but vegan as well. Anyway, I did not get sick at all from the restaurant. Just make sure that you order a sampler plate, and get a few items from the starter menu. Anythin...

ARCHIVED Can You Help A Newbie With Gluten Labeling?
Rowena replied to aedixon's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
So um, like many others said, it depends on HOW sensitive a person is. Some people may be able to tolerate the minuscule amounts of gluten that show up in the tests, up to the 20 ppm. But others, it completely may be different. The thing is, companies, like has been aforementioned, arent required to do testin or even disclose information about the facility... -

ARCHIVED Err... Glutenified Family Outing
Rowena replied to Rowena's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Well, I took just about everyones advice. I endin up discoverin the restaurant had a gluten free menu. But when I looked in further detail, just about nothin was going to be safe from cross contamination in anyway shape or form. So I called up the restaurant, talked to them, and ended up decidin it would be safer to avoid it. So I called my mom and told her...
