    I ordered a gene test through enterolab and haven't gotten my results back yet. For those that have used this test before how long did it take to get your results back?

    Thanks for the replies, I emailed her ped and she said she didn't think it was DH. It looks like it's starting to clear up so we'll see if it comes back. If it's just a one time thing than I'll assume it's probably not DH. Thanks!

    I agree, I would definitely try the diet for a few months and see how it goes. False negatives are common, especially in kids, and even if he is really negative for celiac he could still be gluten intolerant. Ian's gluten free chicken nuggets are really good, my girl's love them and they make fish sticks too. If he likes pasta there are really good gluten...

    I'm not at all an expert but I do know it can take adults up to 2 years to completely heal. If you are going to do the gluten challenge and get tested I would do it sooner rather than later, the longer you're gluten free the more your body is going to heal.

    We are doing a gluten challenge with our 3 year old and she is obviously sensitive to gluten in some way. A week ago I noticed a rash on her butt. It looks like pimples all over both cheeks but she said it doesn't itch or anything. I'm wondering if it could be DH but my question is does DH always itch?

    Thanks everyone! I was looking at a list of GI's on the website of a local celiac support group and noticed one of them was actually a doctor of internal medicine and that's what got me wondering. I've already seen one GI and it wasn't the best experience so I'm thinking maybe I should try the internist...but it looks like it just depends on the person. Thanks...

    Would seeing a doctor of internal medicine be just as good as seeing a GI? Would an internal medicine doctor possibly be more familiar with celiac disease?

    Have you started on a gluten free diet yet? Once on a 100% gluten free diet his body will start to heal and hopefully be on it's way to absorbing nutrients again. Is he taking any vitamins? You'll want to make sure it's gluten free also. I don't have a lot of advice since my girls are still in the testing process. Hope others will chime in soon!

    Actually, it takes different people different amounts of time to produce antibodies. You can be having symptoms and not be producing antibodies yet. That's why there's really no way to know if your test will be negative or positive based on symptoms. Unfortunately celiac testing is not so black and white, there's a lot of research that needs to be done and...

    Me and my 2 daughters are undergoing a gluten challenge right now. Their GI said to do it for 3 months. If it weren't for my kids or other family members I probably would not care whether I have a diagnosis or not.     Yeah, it's the weirdest thing. Her poop isn't hard like constipation normally is, it's soft and sticky but it's like she can't get it all out or something. When she was gluten free (going through gluten challenge) she went normally. Her GI has her on miralax but it doesn't really do much for her.

    Just another question here, don't mean to hijack your post Is jaundice typical for babies with celiac? Both my girls had jaundice. Our youngest was sent home with light therapy for it. Just curious.

    Just curious, I've heard a lot of talk about diarrhea and light colored poop from celiac or gluten intolerance but my girl's "glutened" poop is a little different.     I would go ahead and have her tested while she's still eating gluten but would try the diet regardless of results. If you do get a positive blood test but don't want to do the biopsy you might not get a diagnosis from the doctor but you pretty much would have your answer.
