  2. Abby- Hi girl! What's in your vitamins? Is it a mainline brand or a more "natural" brand?
  3. yeah, you do have to be careful with mainstream cereals. well, as well as all of them i guess... however, one of my good friends from college is a celiac and had been eating corn pops for a while b/c they were gluten-free. she eventually started to get sick though, couldn't figure out the source for weeks, and finally figured out corn pops had changed...
  4. Oh, and there is also the Thai Kitchen dinners, they have a ton of gluten-free stirfries with rice noodles etc. Go here: Open Original Shared Link and if you go here, to the Gluten-Free Pantry, they have some gluten-free "hamburger helper" type meals where you add some meat, throw in a pan and simmer: Open Original Shared Link
  5. One of the best things I think for coping is to discipline yourself to take it one day at a time. Rather than thinking "what will i eat for the rest of my life?" ask "what will i eat today." Granted, everyone has moments of being overwhelmed, and that is totally valid and okay! You'll have moments like those even a while from now. But I think it can...
  6. I didn't mention this earlier, but definitely agree about the IBS-I-don't-really-know-what-is-wrong-with-you diagnosis. I was diagnosed IBS 13 years ago. That diagnosis is little help at all sometimes.

    ARCHIVED Excema Or Dh?

Thanks for the thoughts. I've always thought I've had excema, and perhaps its is, because it is usually contained on my scalp. It has been worse than ever the past few months and I can't seem to get it under control and was wondering about a connection.
  8. Ha ha! You guys and the poop talk! This is embarrassing, but a bit funny, and helpful too of course. When I was always constipated, my husband would say I had 'rabbit poop.' Yeah, poop is a big topic in our house. But a lot of time, and still after begin gluten-free for several months, mine are between c and d. I hate hate to use this word to describe...
  9. Are you looking for a salty one or a sweet and tangy recipe?
  10. Well, wasn't sure where to put this funny story... Over the weekend I was at Walmart (getting some new gluten-free face lotions), and I happened to share the lotion isle with this other woman. I could tell she was the kind that liked to talk to strangers, and my husband was impatiently waiting nearby for me, but I decided to respond to her anyway. ...
  11. Judy and Tiffany-- I have to give a shout out to the Pennsylvania Dutch ! Don't hear that too often. I am half Pennyslvania Dutch and 1/2 Irish.
  12. Has anyone found a relationship between excema and Celiac or thought they had excema (on their scalp specifically), and figured out it was really DH?
  13. Yikes! I would definitely go to the doctor if you have much bleeding. It can be a sign of many things--hemmorroids to Crohn's disease. Perhaps someone here has had the same problem. I've had it a few times, but it has always been related to hemmoroids. Do you have any other symptoms? Those would help clue us in... Ck out this link for other possibilities...
  14. McCormick told me all their extracts are gluten-free.
  15. Thanks for the ideas all. I went to my old gi doc today. (have an appt with one recommended by other celiacs next week). My old gi doc basically said, "huh, I'm not sure. It could be gallbladder, it could be reflux--maybe...let's run some tests and take some more drugs!") I am going to opt out of the CT scan for now. I feel like at this point I can...

Tiffany, Good call on the rice and beans. We eat those a lot at my house. And you can definitely buy those cheap at Walmart etc. Our preferences are brown rice, black beans, black-eyed peas, lentils... We also like sweet potatoes, which I believe are pretty cheap. Lots of chicken. If you have time and want to get chicken the cheapest... I will buy a...
  17. Okay, I feel funny joining in on the "stool" discussion, but... I've been gluten-free for a few months and mine haven't changed at all. Perhaps my weren't as bad to begin as some of yours...but I can always see undigested food. What's that all about ?!

I am sorry to hear about the money struggle. It can be really hard at times if someone was on a tight budget before going gluten-free. I honestly don't know about sponsoring... Perhaps someone else will. Some other ideas--- make your own bread in bulk and freeze. Stores like Walmart and Meijer especially do sell some products that are gluten free...
  19. Hey there... I am looking for any ideas you might have as to what's going on with me!! I have been gluten-free for several months now and about 3 weeks ago I started getting a new kind of pain I have never really had before--mid abdominal pain that would come on gradually, get pretty intense and eventually disapate. It would be like a colic, come in waves...
  20. Ha ha ! My husband was telling me last night he has never actually drank a miller lite before ! Anyone like(d) Guiness? The real stuff... I actually got to go their factory and museum in Ireland and drink one fresh from the barrel. That stuff is like a meal!
  21. hmmm, that stinks! so far, i've been okay. actually just had a teriyaki bowl on monday. i've never eaten the mexican one though--all that cheese, corn, spices would definitely bother me. (i think i remember those being ingredients in it, correct?) perhaps its not gluten but another ingredient that is bothering you? there are quite a few other gluten...
  22. celiac3270-well, don't worry, you're not missing out on too much! I don't drink too often myself, gluten-free or not it bothers me a bit. frenchie--I'll know in about 4 hours I actually haven't been a huge beer drinker myself, more of a scotch, gin and tonic girl, but always like the smirnoff tripled filtered malt bevs too. my fav drink was (i haven...
  23. FINALLY ! The gluten-free beer from Bard's has finally made its way to my local Wild Oats store. I bought some yesterday and plan on trying some tonight. I'll let ya'll know how it tastes!! Go Sorghum!
  24. Good for you Christi! I can only imagine how hard it must be feeding and regulating food for a Celiac child. A few years before being diagnosed I got tired of that sick feeing I got from cake, so we switched to root beer floats or sundaes too. Yummy !
