ARCHIVED Made Delicious Coconut Layer Cake Today...
eatmeat4good replied to love2travel's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
OK, I'm trying that fried fish recipe but with chicken tenders! Sounds great! Also, I just want you to know, I bought a little Journal type notebook to keep my recipes from you in. That is, until you publish your first gluten free cookbook! And others too, but so far you are the first to motivate me to bake. Have you checked out Elana Amsterdam... -
ARCHIVED Skin- Worse Before Better?
eatmeat4good replied to healinginprogress's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have it on my face. 10 lesions- they go down then flare again. It is not fun. At least if it were on my limbs, I could cover it up with clothing. I was misdiagnosed for a long time since it is on my face. Treated for fungus, acne, herpes, etc. on and on. Since all the literature says DH does not occur commonly on the face, it may take some convincing... -
ARCHIVED Severe Depression/ Thyroid Issues Linked To Celiac Disease?
eatmeat4good replied to keithceliac2010's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I was on a two anti-depressants and an anti-anxiety medication for about 5 years. Sometimes they seemed to help but it never lasted. I have been gluten free for 5 months and the first thing I told the Dr. was that I wanted off the anti-depressants. We started tapering down and then off. I feel great and don't feel that heavy dark despair at all since... -
ARCHIVED The Waiting Game... And A Question.
eatmeat4good replied to JenHarris's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
That is very commom with Celiac/Gluten Intolerance. It may be Dermatitis Herpetiformis, the skin form of Celiac. The way you describe it is tiny blisters and that is exactly what happens with DH. The antibodies build up in the skin and cause sores. They can take a very long time to heal even after you are gluten free. One way to get tested is to have... -

ARCHIVED Another Bread Question
eatmeat4good replied to Marc49's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I have a friend who swears she made wonderful gluten free hamburger buns using coconut flour. I don't believe it myself. But if it is true, I will post the recipe for you. I'm writing this half to remind myself to post recipe when I get it, and half to give you hope! Did you check out the bread recipe Sylvia posted a link for? Looks great! -
ARCHIVED Made Delicious Coconut Layer Cake Today...
eatmeat4good replied to love2travel's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
And since you are the new recipe guru here... I bought a lot of coconut flour and now I find that recipes never take more than 1/2 cup and then they take like a dozen eggs. It's gonna take me a long, long time to use the 25 lbs. I bought! I might need to buy some chickens! So any cool coconut flour recipes you get are appreciated! -

ARCHIVED What's Your Favorite Coffee?
eatmeat4good replied to CarolinaKip's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Folgers Medium Dark is my favorite. I ordered special flavors from Gevalia and like them too. But the good ole standby is Medium Dark Folgers. The dark is too strong and the classic is too mild for me. Starbucks is bitter tasting to me. -
My nails improved so dramatically on going gluten free that I decided to google the nail ridges problem. The main problem I had was weak, brittle and thin nails with horizontal ridges. As I recall, the horizontal ridges were an indication of protein deficiency. The vertical ridges were associated with vitamin deficiencies. My nails are normal now for...

ARCHIVED Tattoo To Symbolise Being Diagnosed?
eatmeat4good replied to CourtneyLee's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I just mentioned the Phoenix tattoo idea to my son. He said Yeah! Rising up from a pile of wheat....or bread! That was kinda cute, so I thought I would share it. Not that you want wheat in your tattoo. -
ARCHIVED Resurfacing Cast Iron
eatmeat4good replied to thleensd's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Your signature says you are gluten light? Maybe that is old, and you are now 2 years gluten free and still having fatigue. A lot of people have reseasoned their old cast iron pans and have been fine with using them. It seems to me that him sandblasting a whole layer of cast iron off his pan would have totally eliminated any old burned on gluten... -
ARCHIVED Question About Chocolate
eatmeat4good replied to Lalama's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I'm a chocolate lover. It doesn't cause me problems. Therefore, I believe it is necessary for healing! -
ARCHIVED Has Anyone Taken These Medications For Dh?
eatmeat4good posted a topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
These medications are listed as alternatives when Dapsone is not tolerated. colchicine lymecycline nicotinamide tetracycline sulfamethoxypyridazine sulfapyridine Does anyone have any experience taking them specifically for DH? Might be worth a discussion with my doc. But I'm especially interested in the nicotinamide. "Nicotinamide... -
You might want to consider getting tested. Or just go gluten free and take your son there too. It just may resolve all of your problems even if neither of you test positive. It is so well worth it if your symptoms go away. If they don't you can always go back to eating gluten. However, you may want to give it a "good strict try" as RavenwoodGlass...

ARCHIVED Sodas?
eatmeat4good replied to Kim27's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I've never found one. Most drinks are safe with the exception of health food drinks that have wheat grass in them. Funny thing is the first time I went gluten free shopping I was in the health food store and every drink I picked up had wheat grass in it! Went off to good ole 7 Eleven and got a diet soda...gluten free. I think all soda's are ok... -
ARCHIVED Cadbury Mini Eggs

ARCHIVED Looking For Support And Hopefully Answers
eatmeat4good replied to Buffheart's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
The reactions are or can be just as severe if you are intolerant or sensitive. The only real difference is Celiac is the one that shows up on testing. But that isn't always the case. People who are sensitive or gluten intolerant have to be just as vigilant about cross contamination. Even though it may not show up on testing, gluten can make your life miserable... -
ARCHIVED Another Bread Question
eatmeat4good replied to Marc49's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Hey Love2Travel- I for one would love to try your recipes. I have hesitated for 6 months now in even trying to make bread. I don't want to do all the trial and error I have been reading about. It is daunting. So post away! Or send me a PM! or start your own recipe section! -

ARCHIVED Another Bread Question
eatmeat4good replied to Marc49's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
A regular sized loaf of gluten free bread would cost $25! -
Same thing just happened to me last week. I handed cookies to my sister's kids. Then sat down and happily munched on my nuts that were "safe". Got sick- knew it was gluten and didn't know how it happened. If you touch it, it is on your hands. Yup, then in your mouth. Sorry that happened to you.
