  1. I'm not an expert here, but in light of the fact that you have no answer yet, I will give it a shot. Common Celiac deficiencies are Vitamin D B 12 Zinc Magnesium A E Calcium Other B vitamins You could ask your Dr. what vitamins it would be important to be tested for if you are Celiac. Even if they have to google it, at least it would give...
  2. I don't know if there is anything you can do to stop them. I got a prescription for Xanax for the episodes of contamination because the anxiety is so disconcerting. It does help. I take just .25 mg. only until the reaction is over. I feel much better now than when I was at the mercy of a glutening. I hope you get a better answer but that is the only thing...
  3. Me too...delayed reaction. I will think I got away with eating gluten free in a restaurant then the next day I feel slightly off or tired and the next day I have a full on migraine, nausea, diarrhea, and depression with muscle aches and pains. Lasts 3 more days to a week before I start feeling normal.
  4. Welcome to the rest of your un-nauseous life!!! It is a beautiful feeling isn't it?
  5. I wouldn't be able to do that detox diet. Those are were the hardest vegetables for me to digest early in my recovery. I was only able to tolerate protein in small amounts when my insides were a mess. I agree with Ravenwood, you probably should stop.
  6. Have you tried eliminating the other food allergens? Soy, nightshades, fish, shellfish, nuts, peanuts, eggs? Soy effects me terribly. I have other food intolerances too. They may not show up on allergy testing if they aren't true allergies, but they can make you just as sick as Celiac. If you have insurance check for other GI bacteria. Several can make...
  7. Yes it very well could be that you have Celiac/Gluten Intolerance even if you test negative. Unfortunately, the tests all have a significant false negative rate. Celiac is the only thing they can test for, but Gluten Intolerance is just as serious. Many people here are self-diagnosed for that very reason. If you suspect it but test negative, the next...
  8. I have DH and my ANA tests were negative. So not always! But sometimes...like everything with this disease.
  9. Hey GFinDC!- I've always been fascinated that you can't eat Bug's Bunnies Carrots...and wondered how on earth you figured that one out....but maybe it's the Vitamin A? I've always tried to take high Vitamin A without reaching toxic levels thinking it is good for my skin. But if it is inflammatory....oh god...I'm backing off of it just in case. Can't hurt...
  10. Welcome! Anxiety was a huge symptom for me. It got better the longer I was gluten free, but it probably took 3 months to be fully rid of the anxiety, panic attacks and OCD. The problem is you have to be really strict with the diet. No eating the top off of pizza and thinking it will limit the gluten. When I get gluten accidentally now, the anxiety and dark...
  11. Udi's bread is my choice. Some people like Rudi's.

  13. Thank you Yolo! I think about you all the time! When I get down about my own "hell" I have gone through, you are the one person I actually helped when I was early in my recovery and felt my life was just a waste for the last 7 yrs. Your success with salicylic acid sensitivity made me feel valuable again. And I desperately needed that as I crawled out of the...
  14. That is an interesting connection between Vitamin A retinoic acid causing more inflammation when they thought it would be anti-inflammatory. This may speak to why Accutane (retinoic acid derivative of vitamin A) is now being implicated in "causing" intestinal disorders like Chron's, Celiac and IBS.
  15. Thank you for that magnesium information. If I didn't know that, I might have thought he had gotten gluten so thanks! I have some experience with magnesium myself as I was using it to control migraine (or so I thought) and yes, it can "draw water to the intestines" so to speak. It didn't help my migraines, but going gluten free did. My son's asthma was atypical...
  16. The skin biopsy can be negative even if he does a gluten challenge. Many DH patients do not test positive in blood, skin biopsy, or intestinal biopsy even though they may be VERY sensitive to cross-contamination. The fact that he is sensitive to even cross contamination means that a 3 month gluten challenge would likely be very miserable for him. (and...
  17. Aww Irish! You have been through so much! I'm so sorry you are having to continue in pain. They told me I had fibromyalgia too, and that it doesn't get any better and I would just have to live that way. Oh my God. I am so admiring of you for not giving up! And you are always so positive and pleasant with others, it is hard to believe you do all that while...
  18. My son had severe asthma all his life. It got way better when he went gluten free. There were three articles in the research section recently that like asthma with Celiac. Also Vitamin D deficiency can cause severe asthma. Many people have been surprised to learn their asthma and allergies decline on going gluten free. The magnesium connection is interesting...
  19. You can use all the ingredients you want as long as they are gluten free. Like stir fry for example would have a lot of vegetables and meat. Just be careful of soy sauce-some is made from wheat. Two weeks worked for both myself and my son. Everyone is different and you could do a longer challenge if you don't learn anything from a short gluten-free...
  20. I agree with the others. You know gluten is hurting you. Skip the test. Gee, you could take another vacation or you could stock your gluten free pantry really well in preparation for your new life. Heck...Do both!
  21. That is very cute! We CAN do anything!...except eat gluten! That made me smile...thank you!
  22. I took Accutane twice. 10 years apart. Maximum dose for the full course of treatment. I don't blame Accutane for my Celiac/Gluten Intolerance. I blame Gluten for my acne. What if severe acne is caused by gluten? Then it would mostly be people who are Celiac/Gluten intolerant reaching for the Accutane. Then later the other symptoms of Celiac/Gluten...
  23. I'm so sorry to hear that you had a reaction. I am recovering from my last episode. But, yes, it seems any mistake will be paid for- for weeks. I can't do dairy or eggs and I don't know why (iodine?). They both bother my sores. Healing is slow. Cass recommended a Ionized Silver ointment from Whole Foods and says it cleared hers up. I haven't tried...
  24. That is so strange! I am right at 5 months and the egg intolerance is really obvious right now. Maybe I was just so sick I couldn't make the connection before, or maybe it is showing up now. Either way I'm egg free for now. And scared to try them in baked goods too. There goes brownies.
  25. Welcome! I'm so glad eliminating gluten is doing good things for you! It is important for you to know that once it is out of your system, you might become ever more sensitive to it. Many of us have had this happen. So limiting gluten may not be enough. You will need to watch for cross contamination and even a little speck of flour dust can make you have...
