  1. I thought the cheese would have to be labeled if it contained wheat ingredients. I use shredded cheese all the time. Curious.
  2. I'm very interested in this. What is the test? Is that what you ask for at the Dr.'s? A SIBO test? I am going to look into that. Thank you very much for your post. Sorry I can't be of help, but you have been a help to me.
  3. I'm dealing with some fog, fatigue, depression. I think I will try that Foogirls mom....yer pretty smart. Thanks for that suggestion.
  4. Just went through my first holiday season gluten free. I was sick for 7 years, for 5 of those years I was unable to work for fatigue, depression and sores. Dr. said fibromyalgia...you will have to learn to live that way. Right. Until 3 months ago when found this site. This past year my husband divorced me for being sick all the time. So it was bittersweet...
  5. What if your child happens to have Silent Celiac? I won't give gluten to any child ever. My sister's kids get gluten free cookies at auntie's house.
  6. Vitamin deficiencies can cause swelling and puffiness. Vitamin D and Vitamin C in particular though there may be others. Do you take vitamin/mineral supplements? I stumbled across that when I was dealing with the same thing- I increased C and D and started taking vitamins regularly-no missing days. Slowly that weird facial puffiness is going away. I think...
  7. Welcome to the best place to learn. I hope your healing goes really fast. If you have any questions feel free to ask. I would never be well without these folks.
  8. Gluten free products acceptable rate is 20 ppm. If they test to 5ppm...they are more excellent than I thought. That is outstanding. Some people react to gluten free products and likely it is those who are susceptible to less than 20 ppm. I don't think there is any way to know but trial and error.
  9. Nutsonline.com is excellent.
  10. Wow, that is very interesting. Thank you for the information.
  11. Yes, me too. Very painful as if there is an infection, but when they culture it is negative for bacteria, but I still have the severe spasms and symptoms of bladder infection if I get gluten. I'm glad you brought this up as I was wondering too.
  12. Awww that was just a thought. I also fight the urge to stick my arm out and swipe all the loaves of bread off the shelves in the stores to "raise" awareness. Time will help these thoughts I'm sure.
  13. Iodine in dairy products? How would one know? Does it have to be listed? I'm so confused. Also, some people say you can eat sea salt or salt that is not iodized- Is that not the case Rosetapper23? That would mean all products with salt in the label would have to be avoided. I really want my rash gone, I hope you will clarify this. If the antibodies...
  14. Actually, I would like to know if is acceptable to start a list of Dr.'s who are NOT knowledgeable of Celiac or Gluten Intolerance. Maybe someday Celiac.com would be the list no Dr. wants to be on. I thought about listing each Dr.'s name next to their statements, responses and treatment they provided.
  15. No biopsy. I asked 4 different dermatologists to biopsy. They refused. Each thought they knew the answer. Herpetic Whitlow Adult Acne Neurotic Excotiation Chronic Hives Also given Sun Sensitivity and Herpes as diagnoses. Treated with multiple antibiotics, antifungals, and steroids to no avail for 7 years. I didn't know what to ask them...
  16. Here is what the "Dr.'s did for me. Migraine headaches-Dilaudid Nausea-Promethazine Diarrhea-Immodium AD Shaky, nervous, and weak- Xanax Depression-Zoloft Sores that won't heal-Antibiotics, antifungals,Steroid cream, Sores still not healing- Must be neurotic excoriation Swelling of body and face- Lasix Dehydration- "You should drink more water...
  17. Yes DH can be be just one lesion that lasts a long long time...intensely painful and/or itchy. Everyone is different. I always only had one lesion at a time...leg, back of neck, nose, elbow, each lasted months....the leg one lasted one year. Then the rash blew up on my face....for 7 years...between one and 5 lesions at a time, but very sore burny, oozy, and...
  18. I would not accept treatment from such incompetent physicians. File a complaint on the nutritionist. Surely they have licensing boards for nutritionists. I would be furious. I would file a complaint on the Dr. too. They all need a copy of Celiac, The Hidden Epidemic. If they are "warning" you, you can warn them that you are notifying their licensing boards...
  19. The sores in my nose never ever itched. Just painful. I had one on my leg that I could have described as itchy AND painful 10 years ago. It lasted one year and didn't respond to antibiotics or antifungals. For the last 7 years the lesions have been on my forehead and chin and they never itched...just hurt hurt hurt so bad I would tell the Dr. that these sores...
  20. Oh my God, that would definitely activate the lesions. I had no idea that CT contrast contains iodine. That is terrible. Thank you for pointing that out for us. I think everyone with DH needs to know that. Thank you again.
  21. I had a large rash on my leg for over a year. It eventually went away. 5 years later I got sores on my face. Small spots that got larger and more reactive. Believe the leg rash. Because dermatologists don't recognize it on the face. 7 years and dozens of scars later after antibiotics and fungal treatments and eventually being told it was neurotic excoriation...
  22. If the rash is painful, I use Walgreens Brand of Pain Relieving Ointment it is just benzocaine and works great.
  23. I got rid of all my spices because others cooked too and I can't be sure if the flour from frying chicken got on the tops of open spices or inside. I also envisioned chickeny and gluteny hands grabbing spices and putting lids back on. I just got rid of all of it as I don't know who did what to what, and I don't want to risk getting sick. And yes, glass...
  24. I have DH too and if you felt a bump it could be from iodized salt which activates the antibodies. If there was salt in the salsa, it is entirely possible you had a reaction to it. I have made this mistake several times. The reaction for me starts the next day and lasts about 3 to 4 days. Sores can take longer to heal, but stop hurting sooner. Also, I...
  25. I am so pleased to read your post. I have been worried about you all day. I wish I had known and I am relieved you decided to try gluten free. I think you will be surprised at all the symptoms related to gluten. I am no expert just a 7 year victim of this strange disease, but all of the symptoms you describe definitely sound Celiac. My son gets the gut wrenching...
