  1. My son and I both experienced a severe drop in our appetite after getting off of gluten. Foods just didn't taste good at all. We both went through several weeks of not really wanting to eat but knowing we should and trying to. Eventually food started to taste good again, and we both commented to each other how it was so strange that food finally tasted good...
  2. Here is one thread. There are others too! Ah yes, the search bar... You can enter hair loss in the search box and it will bring you to previous threads that talk about hair loss on C.com.
  3. Open Original Shared Link Since Celiac is a vitamin deficiency disease, it makes sense that undiagnosed Celiacs could have hair loss as a result of vitamin deficiencies. There are a lot of links to vitamin deficiency hair loss as I googled it. I just chose this one because it covers several of the vitamins that Celiacs are often deficient in.
  4. I had to go low sal to heal my DH rash. Since the rash has healed, I am able to eat sals with no problem. All berries are high in sals. This season I've eaten blueberries, cherries, raspberries and mango to my hearts content without having anything in the way of a skin reaction. (Sorry ) I think in my case the sals only effect me if I have an active...
  5. It is very important to have the different presentations of DH represented here. Thank you for posting your pics and the fact that it has responded to being gluten free. When my rash presented like yours, there was no recognition of it as DH. It took years and years of flares and misdiagnoses, and worsening lesions until it became like the classic presentations...
  6. If what you have is DH, it is commonly very sensitive to even traces of gluten. So you would need to look for sources of CC. Also, some people with DH need to limit iodine. With your daughter's though, you would want to talk to their Dr. about the safety of limiting their iodine intake. It may not be necessary if you are totally gluten free but some people...

    ARCHIVED Food

Applebees was so unknowledgeable about cross contamination and safe Gluten free food preparation that I left without eating there. Outback is safe for Celiacs.
  9. This is how my earliest rash appeared and this is why I never thought it was DH. I thought it was a hive-like reaction to something but it wasn't blistering, it was welts, so I dismissed DH. Later it took on the typical DH appearance but that was several years into having the rash before it started blistering so that it could be recognized as DH. Your rash...
  10. You need to be all the way gluten free. Even though it is hard, you must get rid of the gluten, because even traces can cause your symptoms to continue. Cross contamination is enough to keep people from healing. Once you are gluten free you should be feeling better. My heart palpitations stopped completely as well as migraine headaches. I think you are feeling...
  11. Richard, Do you mind sharing what symptoms you do get when you get contaminated? Cindy Lou, I'm an Okie too!
  12. Smart girl! It is quite common for people with DH to test negative on the blood panel. For some reason, our IgA antibodies are in the skin and may not show up in the blood. It is also quite common for people to discover they are Celiac when there is no family history of Celiac disease. 1 in 133 people have Celiac and 90% are undiagnosed, though they may...
  13. You might be interested in the thread on DH that includes links to information. It was just started, hopefully it will help you.
  14. Golly Squirmingitch!!! You must be researching more than itching recently huh? Thanks for all of that good information! We have been active on the DH forum lately! I for one, appreciate the information and your hard work! Good job!
  15. The antibodies can remain in the skin for up to 2 years with flares being intermittent or ongoing depending on the individual. Some react for a few weeks and then the rash goes away, some never stop reacting. The only consistent thing is the rash which will not permanently stay in remission without eliminating gluten. Some people also need to limit iodine...
  16. Dr. Peter Green writes in his book, Celiac,a Hidden Epidemic, on the topic of Dermatitis Herpetiformis and an Iodine connection. He says there appears to be an intimate connection between DH and iodine. "Often the dermatitis herpetiformis will not improve- and flare-ups may occur- unless iodine is minimized or eliminated from the diet. This includes iodized...
  17. Malabsorption of fluids is consistent with Celiac in addition to the malabsorption of vitamins and minerals. I recently read an article that said children with undiagnosed Celiac are prone to dehydration. The article was about children, but I suspect the same holds true for adults. It makes sense that if you aren't absorbing properly you can become dehydrated...
  18. Often a DH Celiac will not be positive on intestinal biopsy, so even if you are negative for Celiac, you might want to give the gluten free diet a strict try for say, three months or so to see if what you have is DH.
  19. The blisters can present as flesh-colored or red/purple and I see both in your photos. You also have the excoriations from scratching which are consistent with DH as well as the welting up of areas where you have scratched. People often report that it is impossible not to scratch and that the scratching causes intense burning sensations. Clusters of blisters...
  20. DH can present many ways. Not always typical of what you see in the pictures of DH where blistering is severe. I had very minor outbreaks for years before it turned into the typically severe blistering you see in the photos of DH. Mine was mainly on my face but I have had it other places. the places you are describing, lower back, buttocks and back of neck...
  21. Everyone may have and express an opinion, but let's keep in mind Rule #1 please. Rule #1-Do not be abusive or otherwise out of line towards other board members. Show respect for each board member, no matter what you think of their views. This is not a place to quarrel.
  22. I agree with the posters above that Dapsone is not necessary. You can quickly become anemic and should be monitored by blood tests to see that you are able to tolerate Dapsone. I took Dapsone for 2 weeks. The first week I was fine and it worked, no more itching and burning, but the second week the dose was increased and I became severely tired and fatigued...
  23. The original Rice Crispies have Barley Malt. So did the ready made Rice Crispy treats last time I looked. Those are definitely not safe. Barley is a gluten grain. There is a New Rice Crispies that is Gluten Free and it is made with brown rice. I think you have to make your own treats. Open Original Shared Link
  24. Glutino makes Honey Nut Rings that are like honey nut cheerios. We just discovered them. You can't get around the expense. Unless you just eat chex.
  25. I have one cake recipe. It goes for every birthday. Chocolate cake 1 C. Hershey's Cocoa 1 and 1/2 C. Sugar 2 C. Coconut Flour 1 C. Butter 1/2 C. Coconut oil 1 and 1/2 tsp baking soda 9 eggs 1 and 1/2 C. milk or milk substitute like almond milk or hemp milk. 1 tsp. vanilla Dash salt. I just dump it all together and beat the heck out of it....
