ARCHIVED Okay Sooo Do I Ahve celiac disease Or Am I Sick In Head?
ianm replied to VydorScope's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The dietary response you have experienced is all I would need to know. I have never been tested because it is just so obvious that gluten is the problem. Since you son has it and celiac disease is genetic then that is another sign. You know what needs to be done and your body, not a medical test is telling you all that you really need to know. -
ARCHIVED She Sabatoged Her gluten-free Diet!
ianm replied to Becky6's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
For some reason 3 year olds love dog food. My son would eat relatively little people food but would clean out the dogs bowl every chance he got. -
ARCHIVED 4 Days gluten-free--why Do Testing?
ianm replied to CMCM's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I have never been tested and so have many others here. I did not know about the tests until after I went gluten-free. There was such a dramatic turn around in my health that I just couldn't see the point in getting tested. The only thing you can do about it anyway is the gluten-free diet. I just did not want to eat gluten anymore so I never got tested. Some... -
ARCHIVED When Did It Start?
ianm replied to CMCM's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
i had symptoms off and on all my life but in my 30's they became unbearable. -
ARCHIVED Non-celiac Spouses Please Advise
ianm replied to hapi2bgf's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My ex-wife was always embarresed by it and would get very angry when I made special requests in a restaurant. My girlfriend is perfectly fine with it. She is always going out of her way to find gluten-free foods and restaurants. -
ARCHIVED I Have Started Taking Melatonin
ianm replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I take it from time to time and it really seems to help me. I am a 38 year old male so I can't comment on if a 16 year old should take it. I have never noticed any side effects from it. -
ARCHIVED Are You Positive Or Negative About Having Cd?
ianm replied to Billygoat's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Ironically celiac disease was the best thing that ever happened to me. It forced me to change everything about my life. I was an overweight loser and now everyone complains that they can't keep up with me. It was the reason I got divorced but I now have a terrific girlfriend who is way beyond anyone I could have ever imagined having a relationship with. I... -
ARCHIVED Does Anyone Else Get The Worst Gas
ianm replied to danikali's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Major gas and bloating. Even the dog would have to leave the room. -
ARCHIVED Anyone Else Hate Making Phone Calls?
ianm replied to Nantzie's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I hate phone calls too. Any more than a few minutes on the phone and I have had enough. -
ARCHIVED So, What's The Worst Complication?
ianm replied to a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
That is the whole key to this diet and lifestyle. There are all kinds of great things to eat if are willing to stick your head out of the box and look. Things like cancer are the least of my concerns and not why I adopted the gluten-free lifestyle. I spent 36 years being a brain fogged zombie. There is just no way I ever want to experience that ever again... -
It is like an out-of-body experience. I can see and hear everything going on around me but I cannot connect or respond to any of it. Another description is like having my head wrapped in an airtight box. Nothing can get in or out.

ARCHIVED Telling Others About Gluten...
ianm replied to Jnkmnky's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I read a newspaper article this morning and it was all about the importance of eating whole grains. Of course the only grain mentioned was wheat. There was absolutely nothing about buckwheat, flaxseed, amaranth, quinoa, etc. It was wheat and only wheat. -
I lost well over 80lbs and no more bloating either. I have energy that I never thought possible too.
-
Brain fog gets my vote. The brain fog would be unbelievably crippling for me.

ARCHIVED Telling Others About Gluten...
ianm replied to Jnkmnky's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I don't understand it either. My dad and brother won't really consider it even though they have the same symptoms I did just not as bad. My brother has reduced his gluten intake and says he feels better but isn't willing to go cold turkey. Even after seeing the dramatic turnaround in my health people just can't quite make the connection. I am convinced my... -
My ex-wife just didn't get it at all and it is why we got divorced. My girlfriend gets it completely. Of course there is a learning curve about what foods one can eat but she is a fast study. Some people just can't accept that a common food can make someone so sick.

I not sure if I would say cynical, just realistic but definitley sarcastic and maybe warped. I wasted the first 36 years of my life because of celiac disease and I don't want to waste one minute more. Life is too precious to waste. The people in my life now of the highest quality and a joy to be around.

ARCHIVED Rant About Kids At School
ianm replied to Smunkeemom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I commend you for your actions. It speaks volumes when someone can swallow their pride, admit they were wrong and apologize. Hopefully you can find a way to turn this around as use it as an opportunity to enlighten everyone about celiac disease. -
ARCHIVED Rant About Kids At School
ianm replied to Smunkeemom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I think you missed an opportunity to explain to the 4th grader about celiac disease. My son has a classmate with celiac disease and the other students get it completely. They jump right in to protect this kid when some dopey adult tries to force feed him something made with wheat. When people start whining to me about my dietary restrictions I see it as an... -
ARCHIVED Vitamins..essential Or Not?
ianm replied to Rachel--24's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
They seem to help me. I take liquid minerals from New Vision. They are pricey but an ounce every three days seems to do the trick so one bottle goes a long ways. There is a list of gluten-free vitamins around here somewhere and have not been glutened by them. -
ARCHIVED More Energy?
ianm replied to PicturePerfect's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
People used to complain that I couldn't keep up with them now they complain that they can't keep up with me. -
ARCHIVED Explaining Gf As Lifestyle Choice.
ianm replied to dogear's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I went to dozens of doctors and not one of them even mentioned celiac. All they could think to do was write prescriptions. I am self-diagnosed because I had no other option. Once I quite eating gluten the turnaround in my health was so dramatic that there just isn't any question as to what the problem is. The test for celiac disease just aren't all that accurate... -
I was so relieved to find out what was wrong that I never feel sorry for myself or felt lonely. I had nothing prior to finding out I had celiac disease and have gained everything since then. I can do more now that that the brain fog is gone and I have energy. I wave my celiac disease flag high and proud and if someone has a problem because I won't eat something...

ARCHIVED Could It Be Because I Have Celiac?
ianm replied to cookiedog's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My health has improved so drastically that I miss gluten like ten holes in my head. Once you know what it is like to feel healthy and experience mental clarity you will wonder why you hesitated. -
ARCHIVED Could It Be Because I Have Celiac?
ianm replied to cookiedog's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I had very few gut problems but the brain fog would get so bad I would become almost zombie like.
