You bring up a good point. There are people who like being the "hero" and rushing in to save someone. Once their "patient" is back on their feet they are off to find the next person in need of rescue or they will find a way to bring the person down again. If he is making a big deal about how he was always there for you then I would send this guy packing....

It is better to end it now than after 14 years of marriage and one child later. My wife and I divorced because she couldn't accept that I got healthy. It wasn't the illness that drove us apart. She liked me being sick because it made her feel superior. This new guy sounds like he might be worth taking another look at. Just take it slow. This isn't the time...

The brain fog was absolutely crippling for me. The only thing you can do is be extra careful about what you eat and stay as healthy as possible. Get some rest and take care of yourself is about all you can do.

ARCHIVED Temper, Temper
ianm replied to abqrock's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I have a freind with an 8 year old boy that is gluten intolerant and also has severe autism. As long as he is gluten free he can function on a basic level and is really quite freindly and pleasent to be around. When he gets even a tiny amount of gluten I have seen this kid literally turn into the Tasmanian Devil. He will destroy everything in his path and... -
The three biggest problems for me were in order: 1. Brain fog - To the point of being crippling. 2. Fatigue - Almost as bad as the brain fog. 3. Weight gain - Lots of it. I did not have a lot of gut problems like some do but it was more than normal. I used to have times of very rapid heart beat also. All of these have gone away since I quit gluten...

ARCHIVED Dh Wants To Let Ds "cheat"
ianm replied to redheadheather's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Maybe your DH needs to hear a man's perspective on this. My son has a friend with very severe celiac disease (both age 9). This child is not the "weird kid" nor is he singled out or ostracized in any way. All of his friends understand the problem and are actually quite protective of him. My son and this child were at a birthday party and the birthday boy... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Disease And The Workplace
ianm replied to Jen H's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I can say with absolute certainty that it will get better. Take care of yourself and follow the gluten-free diet and things will work out. About 18 months ago my then undiagnosed celiac was raging out of control and I was days away from losing my job because of poor performance. My marriage was falling apart also. I actually discovered my problem when... -
I have to travel for work a lot and eat at Denny's the most. They are always willing to accomodate people with gluten problems. I had one bad experience with a Denny's but that was only one out of dozens of meals.

ARCHIVED Are There Any Other Celiacs That Are Overweight?
ianm replied to Jules's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Cut out the junk food, sugar and processed foods, even if they are gluten-free. Eat foods with protiens and natural fats plus green vegetables. These foods digest more slowly and you won't feel as hungry. Natural, whole foods are the best. It will take awhile for your body to adjust to eating less. It is really surprising how little food your body really... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Dairy, Fructose Or All Three?
ianm replied to VydorScope's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I can eat fructose but only in limited amounts. Some fruits I have to avoid altogether. From what I know of fructose intolerance it is not as damaging as gluten intolerance. You can still eat fructose but don't go overboard. -
ARCHIVED Gluten Dairy, Fructose Or All Three?
ianm replied to VydorScope's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I can't tolerate a lot of fructose. Apples and bannanas come out just as fast as they go in. Tree fruits are real high in fructose and are off limits for me. Peaches don't seem to cause much problem if I only eat one a day. Berries and melons in moderation are fine. Grapes and raisins seem okay also. Splenda doesn't bother me but aspertame sometimes does... -
Eloquently put. Divorce is pretty extreme but in my case I realized that my brain fog was keeping me from seeing all of the other problems in my marriage. When I went gluten-free and the brain fog lifted I could clearly see that our marriage was by for and about her and only her. Jerks come in all shapes, sizes, ethnicities AND genders. When something...

I don't go out for ice cream, too much risk of cross contamination. I only eat ice cream brands that I know are safe and that I opened and dished out.

Well as a male celiac here is what I did. My wife just did not comprehend the disease at all. I didn't try to force her to adopt the gluten-free diet but did try to get her to understand the need to prevent cross contamination. That went in one ear and straight out the other. After months of failing to get her to understand I said the heck with it and filed...

If you are used to eating a diet of mostly processed junk then your guts will turn inside out if you jump right into the raw diet. Start by slowly adding raw fruits and veggies so you body has a chance to wean itself off of garbage. The fruits and veggies I eat are mostly raw. I occasionally stir fry them for variety. For dairy I only eat cheese, yogurt and...

I miss that garbage like a hole in the head. People can eat it around me all they want. It is their body and if they want to pollute it then that is their problem.
-
People just can't accept that food can make you sick like that. If I have to tell a moron the same thing twice then that moron is out of my life.

Sounds like mom needs a new BF.

celiac disease or gluten intolerance was the best thing that ever happened to me. I went through 36 years of pure hell because of it but now I am being rewarded for sticking it out. I used to be obese but I am now down to 160lbs and actually have abs. I got rid of a dopey wife who just couldn't accept my disease and traded her in for a wonderful new girlfreind...

Habenero peppers all the way! I like my food radioactive. I only use real peppers to spice up my foods. I don't use any processed spices or sauces at all.

ARCHIVED No One Understand What I Have!
ianm replied to moussyluv's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I know a few people who have potentially fatal allergies to peanuts or shell fish. They have told me numerous stories of some dumba!@ who has tried to shove a peanut butter cookie or crab cake down their throat. Some people just can't accept that food would make someone sick or even kill them. One thing I have found since discovering the source of my problem... -
ARCHIVED No One Understand What I Have!
ianm replied to moussyluv's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Some people get and others don't. Your mother is one of the ones that doesn't get it and probably never will. You will have to get some thicker skin and a stronger backbone if you want to stay gluten free. It is your body and it is up to you to protect it. If people get offended because you won't eat their food then that is just TOO DAMN BAD! You wouldn... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Withdrawal?
ianm replied to carriecraig's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I went through a very severe depression for a few months after going gluten-free. Looking back I think it was a combination of physical and psychological reasons. It eventually got better and my life has never been better. Keep at it because it will get better. -
ARCHIVED Going Gf Without Diagnosis
ianm replied to lorka150's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I am another self diagnosed and see no reason to get tested. My health changed so dramatically after going gluten-free that a test really won't tell me what I already know. Either way the only thing you can do is go on a gluten-free diet. -
ARCHIVED Gluten Awareness - How Did Europe Do It?
ianm replied to Nevadan's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
The American medical system is profit driven. Since most other countries have taxpayer funded healthcare there is more incentive to treat the problem at the source. In America it is more profitable to prescribe pills that mask the symptoms and unprofitable to actually make the patient healthy.
