  1. I saw this too! Usually I'm very chill, and I can take jokes. I really don't take much seriously at all, but this actually made me pretty damn angry. It's just ignorance. I don't think you need to lighten up, cause neither do I, and this was just a cheap shot at something clearly the writers of this show don't understand in the least.
  2. I used to indulge once in a while, because I could eat cereal all day every day, and I'd eat a bowl of Mini Wheats or Special K Vanilla Almond, or even Golden Grahams, but the pain was too much to deal with eventually that I gave it all up 100%. Now, I'm not even tempted anymore. I remember the pain and it's enough of a reminder to stay away. Except...
  3. McCains extra crispy have rice flour and are gluten free. Their flavoured wedges on the other hand are not.
  4. It's not easy for me personally, but just because others think it is, doesn't mean they aren't completely clean. Location makes a huge difference and having a good support system does as well. I live in a big city that my main grocery store has a good gluten free section, and my friends have all been 100% supportive once they all understood the disease...
  5. I used to get those when I used to use lipgloss made with wheat germ. I also used to use shampoo with wheat germ and it would made my scalp so itchy, my teachers used to think I always had lice.
  6. I'd avoid them. I keep getting told that high temperatures will kill any CC, but I don't believe that to be true. One night a few months back, I made the mistake after a 10:30pm class and was starving and got some fries and was sick right away and was sick for about 3 days without any sign of it ending. I was in so much pain, I thought I was going to have...
  7. I'm sorry to hear about what happened with your fiance. What brand of oatmeal are you using? I have to use certified gluten free oatmeal, like Red Mill. I can't eat any other oatmeal but that or I will get sick cause of the CC. However when I'm extremely stressed out I'll get sick like I've been glutened. Last time it happened, my good friend died...
  8. That sucks, I hope they stop being jerks and realize you didn't sign up for this. I'm lucky, my parents and my friends have been 100% supportive. The only person that isn't is my sister, whom, I don't get along with as it is, so it's not a surprise. She thinks I'm being difficult, but meh. Some have said some stupid comments like "Oh, if I can't have...
  9. I have a couple of friends who sneak some bread in once in a while. The one is my natural path doctor/friend who diagnosed me. I was quite shocked when she said she'll sneak in some bread, but no more than a few times a year. She is fully aware though it's still doing damage, but she's not so sensitive to it anymore. I told them both I've done enough...
  10. I won't hold my breath for Wal-mart. I don't go there as it is. When I was first diagnosed with celiacs, I was going to health food stores and paying an arm and a leg for my food, but didn't care. Wal-mart is too much about profit. I moved to a bigger city for college, and I struck gold cause the main grocery store I go to has a huge gluten free section...
  11. I love animals, so I would be like "Yea... I need a dog..." just so I can have a dog. In all seriousness though, you don't need a dog. Like mentioned, reading the ingredients and avoiding even things that are processed in a factory with wheat, that's key. Though more companies need to add that to their labels. I haven't checked since I stopped buying...
  12. thanks for the info. I'll try and send them an email in the near future. I have a friend with celiacs, and she was the one who advised me it was a rice beer, and she drinks it too, but it's always good to know the facts. If it's made of barley and rice, at least I still have Crown Royal! Even if bud doesn't bother me, it's still doing damage from...
  13. i usually throw in facts about celiacs... like left untreated will lead to stomach/intestinal cancer. Every person that has ever said to me "just deal with the pain, it can't be that bad" usually shut up when I say "Oh yea? I suppose it's just that easy to deal with cancer, right?" and they shut right up. I find that most people just don't get the level...
  14. Sorry to hear about your loss, my condolences. In situations like that, bring some snack foods that will tide you over. Eat an apple and/or banana, they're both proven to tide hunger over just as much as a small meal.
  15. I can't believe some of the products out there that have wheat in it! I would get cankersoars all the time from lip gloss and never knew why. Even some shampoos have wheat, and I would end up with a constant itchy scalp. Although I drink bud light lime and I don't have any problems. I know it's a rice beer, so I've been drinking it, I'm sure there...
  16. My friends have been my support system. They all saw how sick I was, and kept telling me that I looked too skinny, saw how tired I was, that I wouldn't go out at all because I was always sick and in pain. Now they see the 180 that happened, and don't want to see me sick as I was before. I've baked for my friends and they've all loved it, no complaints...
  17. I was overweight about 4 years ago, went to the gym, lost 55lbs, and that's when I started noticing how sick I was getting. I had stopped going to the gym, but I wasn't gaining any weight. 3 years in a row, my weight had stayed the same. Only once did I manage to put on ten pounds, and that was something I did on purpose to see if I could do it, but it...
  18. I remember the nights I would be in too much pain to fall asleep, manage to only sleep for maybe an hour, then wake up and never get back to sleep. I remember the bloating, all the other problems I had which I'm sure everyone who's had the same issues can guess. My good friend, who is also a naturalpath is the one who diagnosed me. She also has celiacs...
  19. I agree. So many people just don't get it. It doesn't go away. It may just develop over time for some people, but it also doesn't go away over time.
  20. Going gluten free for someone who doesn't need to be actually isn't a good idea. Open Original Shared Link If your husband wants to, then it's up to him. Personally, I couldn't ask for it. When I was a vegetarian, I didn't expect my significant other at the time to be a vegetarian either. Some people just can't handle different diets. All our bodies...
  21. I completely understand your issue. I'm away in college this year, so cooking for myself is fine, and the woman whom I'm renting a room from, her boss and his whole family have celiacs, so she understands. Coming home from school is awful for me. My parents get it, but my sister who still lives there doesn't. We don't get along, so she really does things...
  22. Thanks for sharing the video! Cross contamination is ridiculous. I can't believe how much of it there is in so many foods. I can't eat Quaker Oatmeal because of all the cross contamination. Even when you read the labels of things that don't have any wheat/gluten, but has been processed in a factory with it.
  23. Tamari soy sauce is GREAT. I live in Mississauga and I found it at Loblaws in the gluten free/organic section.
  24. The fact that they have a gluten free option is so awesome. I find it tastes best when it's fresh. If you leave it in the fridge and re heat it, I don't think it's as good. The Pizza Pizza's around here that I've eaten at are good about cross contamination as long as the cooks are education. However, some of the Boston Pizza (which also have good gluten...
  25. President's Choice hot dogs are gluten free.
