  1. What eKatherine said. Ingredients aren't copyrighted, just the preperation instructions. Please post! Stephanie
  2. OMG, you were BLESSED to have a family doctor accurately diagnose you based on blood tests! So many people have had the opposite experience. Definitely, I vote for finding another gastro. Or have your family doctor order the blood tests for your daughter! He's a keeper! Stephanie
  3. Here's another thought. Things changed about my health and how I experience life since going gluten free which I did not expect or know were problems to begin with. Mood swings, (cranky!!!!) anger, depression were some of the weirder. Insomnia and migraines were other things I didn't think would be related. Also, I keep finding evidence of the stomach problems...
  4. I had both done at the same time, too (my Dr called it a double-decker!) and I was pretty well back to my normal self an hour later. I had some major blood sugar swings because my blood sugar was low when I got there and they put me on a glucose drip and sent my sugar sky-high, but other than that (that took a few days to get back to normal) I was fine. ...
  5. Can someone post the recipe or the original thread? I'm cuckoo for coconuts. Thanks! Stephanie
  6. I started with depression and anxiety in my teens and through my 20's was medicated for a bunch of things - was diagnosed as Bipolar 2 with psychotic episodes, spent some nights in a "special" hospital for being suicidal, and was on social security disability for a few years. All of that is completely gone now that I am gluten free. All of it - except for...
  7. I think if I'd lost 10 pounds after going dairy free, I might have kept going with it! Nothing like that happened during my two separate month-long trials, and at the end of them, I was so happy (I love dairy!) that I went back to being a dairy consumer. Low carb was cool for kicking being hungry all the time. That was probably the first time in my life...
  8. I wonder what activated charcoal is made from? It's probably some kind of wood, I'd guess. I take it occasionally when I may have gotten some nightshade (peppers, tomatoes, eggplant, potatoes) in my food that I ordered, etc, and didn't realize before I ate some. I highly recommend mesquite real wood charcoal for the BBQ - not only is it gluten free, but...
  9. I have not been diagnosed with it, but I have really bad periods. I have used natural progesterone cream and it has helped - then I talked with my gyno and she prescribed me natural progesterone pills (Prometrium). It comes in 100mg and 200 mg - it's the same sort of progesterone in the creams, but suspended in peanut oil (so, if allergic to peanuts, it's...
  10. I seem to react to very small amounts, but have not reacted to any Bob's stuff. Some of Bob's gluten-free stuff has a big mention of it being gluten-free on the label and others, like corn meal, seem gluten-free, but don't have a symbol on the front. I think that's the stuff that isn't produces in a gluten-free factory. I also have not had problems with...
  11. For ice cream, coconut milk is great (if you make your own ice cream). I like to take 2 cups coconut milk, one ripe banana, blend in blender, add 1 tsp vanilla, and stevia/agave nectar/sugar to sweeten. Then pour in the ice cream maker. Good creamy stuff. Also, you can make almond milk by putting almonds in a blender and adding hot water (careful - this...
  12. This has happened to me - not with dairy, but other problem foods for me. I think it's your body's last ditch effort to talk you back into eating that stuff again - think withdrawl. Interesting - probably backs up that you should be giving it up. Good luck! Stephanie
  13. I'm pretty sure that turmeric is responsible for my cholesterol going down. I was tested at having cholesterol of 237, then 240 (6 months later), then 240 again (2 months later - my doc put me on a statin, but I only took it for two days before quitting because of intolerable side effects), and then 200 (6 months later). The first reading was in the spring...
  14. I have subtype 6 - it's a DQ1 and that can cause some neurological as well as gastrointestinal symptoms. Have you tried going on a gluten free diet? If not, you may be surprised things you didn't think were gluten reactions improve. I had stomach problems, but I also had migraines and was at one point diagnosed as bipolar. Now, none of these things happen...
  15. I don't know that any of my pets have/had it, but I have two cats and two dogs and they all get gluten free food because when they have food with gluten, *I* end up getting sick. No - I don't eat their food! I don't know how it gets to me, but it could be through feeding them (reaching into the bag, the dust gets on me, and somehow into my body) or through...
  16. I recently made a great pasta salad we were eating for three days (made a bunch for a party and had leftovers as not as many showed - more for us!!!) with Tinkyada pasta, the rotelli (spiral) pasta. It was much better than last year's - I cooked it differently. I used the low energy tip on the package - boiled the pasta for 2 mins, then turned off the stove...
  17. I haven't tried these flavors yet but I saw there are now Chocolate Coffe, Chocolate Mint and a third (can't remember that one) - they are ecalled Maya, but they are Lara Bars. The Chocolate Coffee one (in front of me as we speak) has: Organic Dates, Organic Hazelnuts, Organic Walnuts, Organic Cocoa, Organic Cacao Nibs, and Organic Coffee in it. I'd rip it...
  18. I have a former-"best" friend who is vegetarian and I always accomodated that (she's no health nut - in fact she drinks like a fish and smokes like a chimney and cusses like a sailor - you can see why we were friends!) Anyway, after my diagnosis, she would come over (or have me over) have a couple of beers and tell me that she was going to distract me, give...
  19. I know - I'm pretty impressed. Most say "call ahead" but there were a number that actually offered something gluten-free and that is very cool. I think that might be the greatest concentration of gluten-free restaurant offerings I've seen! Stephanie
  20. It's in the Natural Ingredients or something. I was taking them last year after a glutening episode and kept getting worse. Then I posted on here and found out from a bunch of immediate responses that they are not gluten-free. Even calling the company - they waffle on it but can't guarantee it. I would try not taking them and see if you start getting...
  21. OK, I did some research - I've heard a lot of people say stevia is too expensive. Packet for packet, here's some pricing of Stevia versus Splenda. From Open Original Shared Link, a drug store, one box of 100 packets is on sale for $3.50 or 3.5 cents per packet. From Open Original Shared Link is Stevita Supreme, 50 packets for $4.09 or 8.1...
  22. I wonder if it's a matter of time? I actually went from a life of migraines to only getting them now when I have gluten. It could be that you have to heal first. There is a very strong gut/brain reaction for me with food sensitivities - nearly every food I have a problem with will give me a migraine. Also, stomach upset for any reason can cause one in me...
  23. I'm going in August... just found this site: Open Original Shared Link Says there are 63 on the site with gluten-free capabilities (mainly gluten-free pasta). Cool! Stephanie
  24. Just to share an anecdotal experience: I react badly to Splenda. When I consume it I get worsening fatigue to the point where I collapse on the sofa when I drag home from work, and have migraines. It was really bad the first time this happened, then I decided to eliminate Splenda as it was the only artificial thing I was eating at the time. Then a year later...
  25. Or worse, you're allergic to the stuff in Beano (as I am - it's made with aspergillus fungus). That Pepto ad kills me. Also, the ones where there are people sitting at the counter of a diner and they've just pigged out and now they need, tum-tu-tum-tum-TUMS! Well, duh! You just scarfed at a diner! How nice for you there's something you can take to sort...
