ARCHIVED Liver Cause Of Celiac Did Anyone See This Site?!
skbird replied to Webcrystal's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I just wanted to make a couple of comments. First, about the "myth" of liver stones (or the oil and lemon juice making stones) - they have lab tested these stones people eliminate and they are usually about 99% cholesterol. Since olive oil and lemon juice are not 99% cholesterol, this is proof they are not the result of an interior chemical reaction... -
ARCHIVED Mrs. May's
skbird replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I emailed Mrs Mays and got a response: So, hopefully they'll get enough people writing in that they'll continue seeing this as a priority. I don't eat a lot of prepared foods, so this is a hit for me. I also saw when I searched the forum for Mrs Mays, I found my own post indicating I'd written them last August 2005 to find if they were gluten free... -
ARCHIVED Liver Cause Of Celiac Did Anyone See This Site?!
skbird replied to Webcrystal's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I actually put more blame in the overuse of toxins in society, not medicine. Medicine has its negative effects and I don't mind saying most meds are totally ridiculous (just listen to the pill ads on tv for stomach problems that may cause, surprise, surprise, stomach problems). But the external toxins building up in our society, our world, especially since... -
ARCHIVED Liver Cause Of Celiac Did Anyone See This Site?!
skbird replied to Webcrystal's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I should get work as a quack detector. FWIW, he is great for physical therapy. I just know not to buy supplements now unless we read every ingredient first (he gave me a refund on the stuff I couldn't take). Live and learn. Stephanie -
I react to earrings, but only ones of questionable metals. Silver, gold, the good stuff is fine. I get the excema on my hands sometimes, too, though can never figure what triggers it. I have good times and bad time with soy, don't like lettuce much (prefer spinach) and did get really sick after eating raspberries last summer, but thought it was because they...

ARCHIVED Liver Cause Of Celiac Did Anyone See This Site?!
skbird replied to Webcrystal's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Oh yeah - the chiropractor I go to for the shoulder thing wanted to allergy test me for some supplements and, since I knew he knew about my allergies and gluten, I trusted him. Well, he tested me for three supplements by putting the pill on my tongue and then pushing down on my arm. Strong arm - no allergy. I bought the supplements, was at home ready to take... -
ARCHIVED Liver Cause Of Celiac Did Anyone See This Site?!
skbird replied to Webcrystal's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
And I lived to tell. I didn't take leave of my good senses, but I did try to go for a veggie diet (I was desperate!) and all the brown rice and fruit were just too much for me (not to mention the gluten stuff). Maybe I didn't "believe" enough - I was pretty skeptical the whole time. Actually, following a Celiac diet has improved my hypoglycemia much more... -
ARCHIVED How Do You React To Sweet Potatoes
skbird replied to elisabet's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Good info - sweet potatoes are not potatoes, not related. I'm very intolerant to nightshades, but can have sweet potatoes and yams. Though I thought they were not actually related - I believe yams are a South American food (originally) and sweet potatoes originated in Africa? I guess that doesn't mean they aren't related. Anyway, it could be a starch... -
ARCHIVED Liver Cause Of Celiac Did Anyone See This Site?!
skbird replied to Webcrystal's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I got into liver flushes for a while there, started by my massage therapist. I also frequented Curezone for a bit there and learned some things about my self and others I just didn't know what to think. I can tell you this - liver flushing has made me increasingly sicker and worse. I got stones out, but each flush I did, something worse happened. The last... -
ARCHIVED My First Le Creuset!
skbird replied to penguin's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
My husband has one - not a Le Creuset - but another Belgian one from at least 50 years ago an we still use it. He makes the best chicken. This is what he does: take a whole chicken and some garlic - cut the garlic cloves into slivers and then, with a good sharp knife, pierce the chicken's breast and slide the slivers in it. Then, stuff the chicken with... -
ARCHIVED Mrs. May's
skbird replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
And I just remembered them recently. Darn! Bummer! Stephanie -
Hey - yeah, I have 602 also. But I wouldn't stress about it too much - first of all, if you are gluten free (and your son, etc) then you have already lowered the chance of any of this happening. Also, this experiment was conducted on males from Taiwan, so unless you are of this specific group, it might not have anything to do with the other. Meaning there...

ARCHIVED Liver Cause Of Celiac Did Anyone See This Site?!
skbird replied to Webcrystal's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yeah, that's a controversial site. Obviously we know this is not true - liver flushes are good for some things but they won't cure Celiac. You can search for curezone related threads here - there was a big one about it last year. Stephanie -
Making sushi is fun and not hard to do. A couple of years ago my coworker and I made up the rice the night before and bought cucumber, carrot, avocado, imitation crab (HAS WHEAT!), sushi grade tuna and smoked salmon. We brought it in with nori (seaweed wrap) and a lot of plastic wrap, got everyone in the company in the break room, and we had a "Roll Yer Own...

ARCHIVED Anyone With Dq3?
skbird replied to Nantzie's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I also have DQ1 and DQ3. More specifically, it's DQ6 and DQ9 in me. DQ3, subset 9 is only one amino acid different from DQ3, subset 8 (or DQ8) and has many of the same features. I haven't found a lot about it on the web specifically with Gluten but Dr. Fine did give me an article about it: Basically, this article is stating that it has the same reaction... -
ARCHIVED Portable Travel Food Ideas
skbird replied to skbird's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
Thanks for all the ideas. I will probably contact the chef or someone at the resort because really, all I will need is some plain cooked meat and a veggie. But good suggestions for things to bring. I had forgotten about Mrs. Mays - love those! They used to sell a multi pack at Costco. And the Eden beans/rice in a can is brilliant. I forgot about that... -
ARCHIVED Unexpected Positive Effects Of New gluten-free Eating Habits?
skbird replied to munchkinette's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
For me - thicker/faster growing nails, less moody, fewer hypoglycemia symptoms (that was the biggest thing of all), and also treating myself to better food, as well. I shop at mostly health food stores now - we don't eat out like we used to so I look at it as I'm saving that money and can spend it on better food. In fact, my husband just went to an... -
ARCHIVED Traveling To Sacramento
skbird replied to deeshie10's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
Good info from Nancy. I live in Chico and drive down to go to Whole Foods every two months. It's easy to find from the Arden area - just keep following Arden until you get to Eastern. I have gotten decent service at the Black Angus (out off Sunrise - not near Arden though) and gotten a sirloin lunch with steamed veggies two or three times now and not... -
Hi Moongirl - I wouldn't start with 1500 but work up to it (if you need that much!) I usually start with 400-500 at night, then if that doesn't work, add a pill until it does. For me, it's usually 800 mg where it works for me. Also, I don't drink caf coffee but I have green tea every morning and that does get things going, as well. Even decaf coffee...

ARCHIVED Portable Travel Food Ideas
skbird replied to skbird's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
Yeah, I'm figuring anything I take and don't eat, I'll pitch out. I'm also thinking of repackaging my homemade jerky in a store-bought package. This resort is some 10 miles from the nearest town and I will be travelling with my parents and my husband (I'm 35, so I'm not a kid). Basically, I'm trying to be as low maintenance as possible on this one.... -
ARCHIVED Is Chlorophyll Safe For Celiacs?
skbird replied to mandigirl1's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I take chlorophyl and the stuff I get is from alfalfa. I wouldn't trust it from gluten sources. That's just me. You can show me the science, but if I have a choice, I'll go alfalfa. It's supposed to help with body smells, digestion, alkalizing, and some other things. Despite my good diet, I seem to get acidic so I use it for that. Also, my cat (not the... -
I've gotten worse. Now I'm breaking out - was just my shoulders and back (new just this past year! woo-hoo! ) and then last month, it was my chest! Lame! And then I had the worst period in a year. Everything else in my life has evened out quite a bit, but hormones and PMS keep getting worse. I have started taking Prometrium, which is a progesterone (bio...

ARCHIVED Chicken Fried Steak
skbird replied to Smunkeemom's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
We dredge and use 1 part sweet rice flour (the starchy stuff) and 1 part buckwheat. It works really well - rarely does some come off in the grease. We recently started making chicken nuggets with this flour, BUT using buttermilk, so wouldn't work in this situation. Both are good! Stephanie -
Hey - my brother is getting married in November in Cabo San Lucas and I will be there Thursday through Sunday. We will be at a resort with some restaurants but not too likely we'll be running into town and grocery shopping. I have other food issues besides gluten (nightshades, shellfish, corn are the most prominent) and so am trying to strategize on what...

ARCHIVED Ignorant Server Of The Day
skbird replied to floridanative's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
This makes me think of my story - I was at a music fest and this guy had a stand with all these different flavors of dipped ice cream bars in dark or light chocolate. I'm a chocoholic so I wanted dark chocolate ice cream dipped in dark chocolate but asked first if the ice cream had any wheat in it. "You want to know if the ice cream has any MEAT in it???...
