  1. Yeah, it sounds like a migraine. I had them my whole life but because I insisted I had pain in my shoulders in addition to all the other stuff, doctors always thought they were tension headaches. It wasn't until an accident - a doctor gave me a sample of Frova (migraine drug) and IT WENT AWAY that finally they believed they are migraines. I get one like...
  2. This thread has migrated... but I also am hypoglycemic, though it is sooooo much more manageable now that I am gluten free. Examples - after being gluten free a year and a half, I can now eat some sugars (not corn-based) and I can have caffeine. At this moment, in fact, I am drinking a blender mocha (it's fair trade chocolate and organic sugar) which certainly...
  3. Pretty misleading and crummy that they would make such a big deal about sprouted grains eradicating natural gluten content in the grains and then add it back in each recipe anyway (look at the ingredients of their products). That's a dirty trick on top of being completely wrong. Stephanie
  4. Thanks! I love my kitty (Benny)... we're having a sort of tragedy here in that the city is taking over the Humane Society - turning it over to the Police Department - and they are going to ship out or euthanize all the pets already there, then no longer have adoptions, only have strays which they'll keep 5 days, then put them down (unless claimed). This makes...
  5. I was thinking of this argument (which I've read before on this board) yesterday when I was in the shower and my husband (uh, we shower together, sorry if TMI) bumped me and a whole bunch of shampoo suds from my head went into my mouth. It gets into my eyes sometimes, too. And no, we're not rowdy shower-takers, either! I don't have DH but I just don...

    ARCHIVED 5 Htp

I've taken between 25 and 50 mg a day - was fine. I didn't notice it changing my sleep other than more vivid dreams, and I did notice about half the time my mood was improved. I was thinking recently about going on it again. Since it is a precurser to serotonin and we make nearly half our serotonin in our gut, wouldn't it make sense that it would help...
  7. Interesting discussion. As for Wikipedia, I don't ever go off one source on the net, nor do I think most people. It's a really interesting thing to watch develop on the web and has more information in it, however it measures in "truthiness" due to a lot of assorted and uncontrolled people contributing to it. Hmmm, sort of like this board! When...
  8. 40 degrees cooler? Don't mess with me. This is excruciating!!! I live in the northern part of the Sacramento valley - insanity has taken over... Stephanie
  9. I have cats and dogs - they are all gluten free now, because they get the dust from their food on their fur and then I pet or kiss them and... I'm sick. All was well until we accidentally got some non gluten-free cat treats - we feed the cat treats when we're lying in bed and my husband sometimes wipes his hands on the bedspread/sheets/etc. I started getting...
  10. The restaurant next door to me is really into the green movement and started using those corn-plastic utensils (they're biodegradable). Which is good on one hand but since I react to corn, I avoid them completely. I'm not sure what to think about them and would like to read more info. If it has been made into something that is no longer corn, I'd like to...
  11. My husband thinks it's really sad I can't even enjoy gluten in my dreams. This is a really interesting phenomenon - shows how similar we all are, I guess. It's actually been a few months (I think!) since I've had one of these dreams, but I have had plenty of them, too. Stephanie
  12. I had considered this, too, but trust issues... As it is, I store mine in the cupboard and hide it when we have a house sitter or guests beacuse I don't want them to use it by mistake. Luckily, my husband now just eats gluten free bread (when he eats it at all) so no more worries in that department. Stephanie
  13. It's not unusual at all to want to eat out but, after reading the fine print, get too freaked out to do it. It's a reasonable reaction. I was just travelling with my mom the other day and she said "let's eat at the Black Angus - you've been fine there before" and she's right, I have. But I spend every time there, pretty much the entire time, hoping like mad...
  14. I believe ginkgo is also a blood thinner. My husband takes it because it gives him more vivid dreams at night. There is also another benefit for men taking it, it helps with certain "amorous" activities... Stephanie
  15. I'm not sure what happened over there but they did go offline about a year ago for a bit because something major on the server crashed. Maybe something similar happened again. It's an amazing resource for sure. Stephanie
  16. Ha! That is me - it's the only ready-made "meal" I can eat! When my kitchen was being torn out and remodelled, I had at least one a day for a couple of weeks. Thankfully I found them on sale at my Grocery Outlet ($.99 each! A major steal!) Now I find them at my health food store - they are marketd $3.39 but ring up $2.39. I have to admit that while I should...
  17. I've thought about doing this, but I have a lot of intolerances already so that makes it challenging - and they are the type that don't seem to get better with avoidance/reintroduction. I do try to stop myself from eating the same thing more than 3 days in a row but have a few things that I always fall back on when I need them (like dairy - string cheese...
  18. I can give you a hypothesis. I am reactive hypoglycemic and while I don't go up past 130 usually, I have been known to drop pretty low pretty quickly. I have not had nearly the problems with my blood sugars being unstable since I have been gluten free - in fact I rarely have many hypoglycemic symptoms or episodes now. I think being glutened taxes the...
  19. I think I eat the mac and cheese weekly (once a week, that is) and have not yet gotten sick from it, though I have read others experiences. It's the only Amys product I can eat (because of other food intolerances). Just wanted to mention that, after reading several posts about CC and people being glutened by them. Stephanie
  20. This describes me really well. Thousands and thousands of pounds, like I was going to fall through the ground and keep going until I hit the center of the Earth. So freakin' horrible. I have not felt that way in 2+ years now. Wow. It's amazing what we live with. Congratulations to us all for beginning to heal. Stephanie
  21. I have to get private insurnace and I don't even qualify because I have migraines and take meds for them (though I have much fewer now that I don't eat gluten). Anyway, I am currently on short term insurance (for 12 months) and am hoping if I don't go to the doctor at all this year and don't fill any prescriptions through my insuance, I'll qualify for an...
  22. Here's the comment I made on the re-posted version of the article: Stephanie
  23. Hi! I think it's probably both. I have reacted to that small of an amount, and others have, too. So it could certainly be the CC. But it's also possible it's from just being on the course of healing. Though I'd be inclined to believe it's the food, since you were feeling so great before. It's a dance at first, finding out what works and what doesn't and...
  24. Hi! I can understand wanting the legitimacy of a postive test as proof to those naysayers. But I didn't end up getting one either, just have had so many little health issues clear up and started feeling so much better - after a while I was so comfortable with being gluten free I feel no need to justify it to anyone. Basically, if you feel better eating...
  25. I was worried about using my bread machine that'd I'd used before to make spelt bread (before gluten-free) but I have not had cross-contamination issues with it since then. I would think going back and forth could work, if you are careful - especially if you have your own pan. But they aren't that expensive - might be worth getting your own. Good luck...
