  1. I don't understand why you would carry a food card and say tiny bits of gluten are ok. It just confuses the issue, and may end up getting you sick.
  2. What about trying plain coconut oil?
  3. We do gaps which is very similar. I believe both the gut flora balance and the simplified, readily digestible diet are very important.
  4. It makes sense that you are upset over this, but it's also not entirely rational. It's part of the process of adjusting to the new diet. You have a right to feel this way, and it's natural to feel this way right now, but you have no business holding this against them or bringing a bad attitude to their wedding. I think it's nice they made the effort...
  5. I've been thinking on this for a while and am curious about what other people think. It seems to me that the healthiest kind of relationship to have with food is one without guilt. I really think the Healthy At Every Size people are on to something very key. Up until we went gluten-free and then started GAPS I was very comfortable with food. I didn't worry...
  6. I think if you are actually trying to avoid these things you do need to tell your servers, not just order carefully off the menu. I put your english version on facebook and here is what people have said so far: My friend asked an Italian friend of hers about it and here is what he said (she thought he was idiotic, but you are likely to encounter...
  7. I haven't done it, but I have a couple thoughts for you. 1. How long are they having you do the challenge before the biopsy? A few days is not enough for an accurate result. 2. Please record all your symptoms and what you ate in detail. That way if you can't stick with the challenge at least you'll have something to show your doctor. Good luck!
  8. Nice. We do ours in the food dehydrator so it doesn't tie up the oven and heat up the kitchen. It has tray inserts for fruit leather. We puree fruits, sometimes add (homemade, no sugar) applesauce, and let it dry. Yum!!!
  9. I would not consider feeding him gluten ever again! I'm glad you have such an easy way to make him feel better!
  10. Tin roof sundae ice cream.
  11. I put it out there to my native italian speaking family. Do you want to add anything in about cross-contamination?
  12. I always thought it was because there is smooth muscle in both the uterus and intestines so if the uterus is being stimulated to contract and release the lining of the uterus maybe there is some sort of cross-over effect. That said, since being on GAPS I've noticed this effect isn't nearly as noticeable as it used to be.
  13. First off - if he's a good guy and just not being careful, he is not the right housemate. Kick him out and advertise for someone gluten-free or celiac and you will probably find someone who has been desperate to find a gluten-free rental! Now for the more important stuff: If your fiancee does not respect your feelings about this guy, and your fear ...
  14. I'm so glad you are getting checked out. I also want to put it out there that there are diets aimed at healing the gut rather than jar stopping the damage. Our family does the GAPS diet which is based on the SCD diet. I agree with the others that you need to eliminate the potential cross contamination issues. We totally stopped eating out and created a gluten...
  15. What are you eating and how is it prepared? What testing have you already undergone?
  16. We can't even eat the gluten-free candy, so the kids go trick or treating and then we buy it from them. Then we give the candy away. We also will make some treats we can eat.
  17. As some of you know, I went gluten-free because of my son last November. For me, lots of symptoms got worse right away. Then our family started the GAPS diet at the beginning of February (which we are still on - now slowly transitioning into the full diet). Most of my symptoms got better or completely resolved on GAPS. It's been really hard to tell exactly...
  18. I just want to put some positivity out there today. Last weekend we went to an end of summer BBQ potluck. The people hosting it have been truly gluten-free for over a year and are into whole foods and GAPS (though not as careful with GAPS as we are). Jupiter was a little bummed about going to a BBQ at first, he said "there'll probably be gluten everywhere...
  19. My son had terrible "seasonal" allergies. They went away for the most part after eliminating corn, to which he has an IgE response. An ELISA test pointed us in that direction. Gluten was important to get rid of, the only seasonal type symptom (there were others) was the brain fog.
  20. We use a "Naturally Fresh Deodorant Crystal." Basically, it's salt.
  21. I'm so sorry! It can be really hard to tell what the problem is when you add everything back at once. I'd go back on the diet that was helping you and then slowly add one thing back in (waiting a few days each time). Our family has been doing the GAPS diet. It starts off very basic and then adds foods in slowly. We thought more things were a problem than...
  22. I'm glad to read that you *know* you deserve better than this kind of treatment (you do!!!), and that your husband has been willing to try therapy with you. It makes sense that if your husband is thinking it's time to go back to school that this wouldn't feel like a good time to have another baby. As for the birth control, I know it's not common, but...
  23. They had a marketing person contact me asking me to feature them on my blog. I asked for an interview with a local store manager and just got the offer of being able to send a list of questions to corporate. No, thank you.
  24. How scary! It's so hard when the little ones are sick, especially when you also have a new baby! Hang in there, though. You are right to be taking him to the doctor and looking at all the possibilities. Of course you are exhausted and worried. I hope you have people in your community who can give you some hands on help right about now!!! The Mayo clinic...
  25. We've noticed that it's important that the *other* kids actually wash their hands *after* eating. The idea of washing hands after eating is foreign to most people, but when kids are all handling the same supplies it's important. My son is doing a Lego Robotics team and it spans the lunch period. I requested that the kids wash hands at the start of class and...
