  1. Here is the article with new criteria that i saw: Open Original Shared Link Regardless of what doc says, definitely do the diet after biopsy! You might also look into GAPS diet, which was developed by a dr with an autistic son, and is based on the SCD which was also developed to help autism. Our family has been on gaps for a year and seen major positive...
  2. Yup. My belly totally flattened out on the GAPS diet after going gluten-free. I had been bloated since after having my son 11 years ago. I've been doing a gluten challenge the past 2 months and my normally flat belly is now frequently distended. I look like I'm 5 months pregnant half the time.
  3. Yay! I just got a call back from my dr office. I can get the panel listed at the top for $169.36 + a 15.96 fee. Blood draw scheduled for 11:10 AM. I found the deamidated gliadin peptide test available for $89 online. I'm considering ordering it. OR, I could order this celiac panel for $177.25 but It doesn't inlcude the anti gliadin IgA or Igg, but does...
  4. Open Original Shared Link I see! I've been scared to use these kinds of services. I found another one that offered the cyrex labs without a doctor, but they had typos and grammar errors all over and were trying to sell some digestive enzyme to deal with being glutened, so I just couldn't trust them. I'm glad to hear you had a positive experience with...
  5. Yeah, I've looked at all their panels! They also have a panel for assessing cross-reactive foods, and another to determine the specific causes of leaky gut... but funds are limited. Since the Cyrex test does include DGP (thanks for clarifying), I am very much leaning toward it. I think this whole panel is only about $360. My dr's office still hasn't called...
  6. Just to be clear, I was not trying to suggest raising children with no discipline. I was attempting to suggest that simply revoking canteen privileges and yelling does not solve the underlying problems. I agree that the child needs to *know how* to eat safely, needs to know the consequences (both intrinsic and external) of cheating/lying/whatever else...
  7. I don't know yet if I have celiac, but constipation (and paradoxical diarrhea, where you are constipated and ALSO have diarrhea at the same time) have been some of my main digestive symptoms. The (low fiber!) GAPS diet really helped!
  8. GutPro probiotic powder has a product with ABSOLUTELY NO FILLERS! Open Original Shared Link They have some gluten in their facility but tested to below 5 ppm the last I checked. They are very responsive to email questions.
  9. As some of you know I've been doing a gluten challenge after being gluten free for a year (on GAPS for most of it). My doctor did order a standard panel for me, but now I'm considering getting the Open Original Shared Link instead. My doctor ordered: Total IgA Anti Gliadin IgA Anti Gliadin IgG Anti tTG IgA Anti EMA IgA She couldn't order the Open...
  10. Allergy Free Vintage Cookery has a Open Original Shared Link that has lots of ideas. I linked to the most recent one but there's a new one every week to check out. We typically send: a thermos with homemade soup homemade beef jerky (just seasoned ground beef rolled out and put in the dehydrator) carrots/celery/other fresh veg homemade ranch or blue...
  11. The GAPS diet alleviated ADD/ADHD and severe dyslexia for my kids and me. My gluten challenge brought ADD back for me. Gluten and corn bring my son's extreme dyslexia back. We do fermented dairy from raw, whole, organic milk without a problem. We do not eat grains, soy, or starchy veg.
  12. Your case sounds like nonceliac gluten intolerance or misdiagnosed celiac. Other conditions we've seen respond positively to the gluten-free diet are hashimoto's, graves, rheumatoid arthritis, PCOS, dyslexia, add/ADHD, neurological weirdness, body odor, canker sores, poor dental health, and I'm sure I'm missing many others
  13. Another vote here for making your own stock! It's so easy, saves so much money, reduces waste - plus, it's yummier and you know exactly what's in it!
  14. Those results would have me convinced it's celiac. There are a few other things that can bring up tTG, but it's not common. EMA is highly specific to celiac disease. If she's going to have the endoscopy as well make sure it happens right away or she stays on gluten until it is done. People thought my daughter had anorexia, but it turned out she just needed...
  15. WOW. So, that begs the question... if tests aren't available, how did they detect the TG3 and TG6. I'd love to get tested for that TG6!!!
  16. Damn you, autocorrect! I think I got the gist, though. It's a horrible feeling when we gluten our kids Hopefully she'll recover quickly, and now you know one more thing to be extra careful about. I've gotten my son a few times. Most recently I used his toothbrush when I was in the middle of a gluten challenge. How terrible is that??!?!?!?!!! ...
  17. I wonder if she's more concerned about the potential for that meanness to escalate than about the disease itself. I'm someone whose moods are dramatically affected by gluten (and other factors), and I can be pretty horrid to be around. Just because the gluten got me doesn't mean I have a *right* to that behaviour. I've also been on the other side of low...
  18. Even shutting off the canteen account won't stop him being able to get things from friends. If he wants to cheat, he will find a way, since he is starting to assert his independence and he wants things like to fit in. I think the four things most people need in order to stick to a diet are: Belief that their diet will keep them healthy or has the potential...
  19. Words to live by! This is the crap that makes me SOOOOOOO mad!!!!!!! We found the same thing. When I did my gluten challenge, not only did I accidentally gluten my son a couple times, but he also started having more trouble with the diet... thinking about the sadness of having to give up foods more. We'll all be happy to be back on the same...
  20. It's not too late to get a copy of your endoscopy report. Request a copy of your full chart with all labs!!!
  21. Oh, and I am 1,000,000% behind you on that no more gluten thing. No test is worth that risk after what she's been through. Do you have a copy of her bloodwork from when she was 6? That plus her surgery would be good enough for many doctors to write the necessary notes for school, I would think. Our son (11 years old) doesn't have a formal diagnosis either...
  22. I hope you will send a letter to your doctor and whoever else should know explaining that these results show that the gluten-free diet is working, not that you don't have celiac! Including a peer-reviewed study should help.
  23. You are a wonderful mother! You have found out what is wrong and are doing your best for your child. French fries for breakfast every now and then won't hurt him in the long run. Gluten will. You are doing the right thing. He doesn't need cakes, cookies, pastas and what not. You are not a bad person for not having found those substitute foods. Our family...
  24. We went 100% gluten free for our son. A year later I started a gluten challenge and had some gluten in the house. I glutened him at least twice, despite knowing all the tricks on how to be super careful. I recommend a safe haven at home, especially if she goes to school. PM me if you want more details.
