ARCHIVED Self-Linking Etiquette/rules On The Forum
domesticactivist replied to U Gluten Free's topic in Board/Forum Technical Help
Ugh. Does anyone have a handy script to change html to bbcode? I bet no iframes or links to amazon or floating images work on the blog either, eh? Maybe it's too much trouble. -

Hm. So new posts from my linked blog don't show up. I started trying to make a local blog but it doesn't let me copy-paste in html. I tried using the "Other Styles" drop down menu, which inserted a at the beginning and at the end, but it still just put my html in the post as typed (and not wrapping) like a pre tag would actual html. Is there any way to... -
Lately people have been asking us for where to go on-line to get good information and support for the GAPS Diet. This diet is aimed at restoring the health of the gut, and the balance of the bacteria and fungus that live there. By giving the gut a chance to heal, many health problems can be reduced or eliminated. It can be tricky to find good information...

UPDATE: This post is part of Kelly the Kitchen Kop's Open Original Shared Link! Way back when, I had a vegan husband. He wasn't just any vegan, he was one of those vegans who actually didn't own a piece of leather, avoided drinking beer, and wouldn't use china because of the bone in it. I learned to cook vegan, pack food to other people's houses, and...

This blog is basically a mirror of the blog that Open Original Shared Link keep at Open Original Shared Link. You'll see a blitz of posts for a while as I get all our old posts transfered over here! We randomly post about what we're eating, the garden, and whatever else might come to mind. Because our family is on the GAPS diet and is 100% gluten-free, that...

ARCHIVED Is There A Connection Between Gluten/food Allergies And Adhd/tourette's?
domesticactivist replied to Tina76's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I'm glad you're feeling better! It takes some adjusting but before you know it, all this will just be another part of life. You obviously love your kid and are dedicated to doing what's best for him. You and your family will be able to figure out how best to handle all this. It just doesn't all get figured out overnight. -
ARCHIVED Are Organic Nuts From The Health Food Store Gluten Free?
domesticactivist replied to ericsnow's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I don't think you can really trust anything from a bulk bin. For instance, we were buying almonds from a health food store and they were out. So the guy got a new box to fill it, but he used the scoop from granola to put the almonds into it. Many nuts are run through shipping that is cross contaminated as well. That said, we do buy nuts and have not experienced... -
ARCHIVED Help / Support For New Mom.
domesticactivist replied to Helene's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Ugh, more... I should add that before GAPS we did just go gluten-free for a couple months. This did result in big improvements for our son, but didn't take care of everything. Whenever he'd get cross contaminated he'd get the joint and bone pain back, brain fog, feel like crap, etc. He has not been CC'd since we totally cleaned our kitchen, stopped eating... -
ARCHIVED Help / Support For New Mom.
domesticactivist replied to Helene's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Continuing... GAPS is the Gut and Physchology Syndrome. The basic idea is that imbalances in gut flora, and damage done to the gut by foods and toxins, prevent the body from being able to properly digest foods. Additionally, proteins from foods begin to permeate the damaged gut walls, wrecking havoc in the body. This can result in allergic reactions, digestive... -

Yes! We have a similar history with our son. As a baby and young toddler, my son had long periods of screaming and crying in the evening. He also had eczema. He'd have asthma attacks as a baby and toddler, which we repeatedly went to the hospital for - I couldn't always tell what had set it off. I was breast-feeding him exclusively as a baby, then kept... -
ARCHIVED Do We Really Need The Test?
domesticactivist replied to raesue's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Yet another reason homeschooling is awesome. It's a sad truth that schools usually won't do adequate accommodations without a Dr note and even then it can be a huge battle. By going gluten-free you eliminate the possibility of testing later. Just because the school you have now for kindy is good doesn't mean come 5th grade (or even next year) anyone will... -
ARCHIVED Constipation Issues
domesticactivist replied to SJD's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I got horrible constipation when we were first gluten free (have always been prone to it, though). After eliminating all grains and packaged gluten-free foods and being on GAPS for a while it got much better. -
ARCHIVED Did I Do The Right Thing?
domesticactivist replied to ElseB's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Like they said, the cc is a big deal. We have very considerate, open minded friends who want to try gluten-free baking for us but they don't understand cc and I wouldn't even trust myself to bake gluten-free in their kitchens. Also, we have other restrictions like no sugar or grains, and only nuts that have been soaked that they don't understand how to deal... -

Hey! Yay! I have a blog. I tried linking to my external blog and it seems to just create a link rather than showing posts. I haven't done a new post on my external blog yet, so we'll see if it shows up here as well next time. If not, I'll just create a local blog. Cool. Thanks. -
ARCHIVED Is There A Connection Between Gluten/food Allergies And Adhd/tourette's?
domesticactivist replied to Tina76's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi Tina, I want to encourage you to give yourself permission NOT to make all the decisions right now. You get to take this slow. Don't come to any conclusions just yet. I know how devastating it is to find out something is "wrong" with your kid, especially if it may impact their whole life. You will get to the point where you will be able to accept what... -

ARCHIVED Self-Linking Etiquette/rules On The Forum
domesticactivist replied to U Gluten Free's topic in Board/Forum Technical Help
Thanks. I don't have "manage blogs" in my drop down or a "create new blog" link available. Maybe I'm too new? Is it ok to post links to new blogs in status updates? I'm often sharing gluten-free recipes and would prefer not to redo them all in order to share here, and the services I offer on another part of the site are locally based. -
This is my son's biggest symptom. Are you 100% sure that you are 100% gluten-free and not getting cross-contaminated? Our son stopped getting glutened when we switched to GAPS and deep-cleaned. We haven't tried meds at this point so I don't know.
-
Is there any way you can get some time in a house with no gluten? Would the people you live with be willing to just eat their gluten somewhere else? My son got continually cross-contaminated even though we were really careful until we deep cleaned everything, replaced mixers (and the like), replaced pots, reseasoned pans and stopped eating anything processed...

Anecdotally, my partner's chronic lower back pain went away gluten-free/on GAPS. She's not celiac as far as we know. (not tested)

ARCHIVED Your Top Two Pieces Of Advice
domesticactivist replied to Korwyn's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
1. If it needs to say "gluten-free" on the label, you probably shouldn't be eating it. Eat real, whole foods from trusted sources, not processed crap with "gluten-free" plastered on it. 2. Even if someone is being really thoughtful and makes something "gluten-free" especially for you, unless they have a truly gluten-free kitchen, have replaced their cookware... -
ARCHIVED Dealing With My Son Working In A Restaurant
domesticactivist replied to Loey's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Does dry cleaning actually remove gluten? I don't think I'd trust it. If your son is a big enough to work at a restaurant, he should be able to wash his own clothes. Is it a problem if he uses the same machine that you wash your clothes in? Maybe he could take them to a laundromat in that case. -

I was wanting to repost some of my blogs from my personal site here on the celiac.com blog feature but I can't figure out how to make it work. I can click on blog and post a comment but not write a blog. How does it work? -
ARCHIVED Is There A Connection Between Gluten/food Allergies And Adhd/tourette's?
domesticactivist replied to Tina76's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I think it's normal to experience some grief when you realize your kid has something "wrong." So let yourself experience that. But then come back to reality Tourette's is really not so bad for most people, especially if it responds to diet. It took us a long time to figure out what was wrong because I didn't understand that tics can change over time...
