    ARCHIVED Hiccup

My son gets them all the time. I don't know who told me this but I give him a teaspoon of lemon juice-he hates it,but it works!
  2. Although Methotrexate is a powerful drug with many side effects, for some arthritis sufferers, it has given them their lives back. My husband was dx with PA(psoriatic Arthritis)4 years ago. He was diagnosed with Coeliac 18 months ago. Once you've got one auto-immune disease, you're more likely to get another-they like to run in packs! My husband...
  3. Hi,welcome to the board! I cannot help you with antigen tests as my husband(who's the coeliac) scored a negative-(coeliac was diagnosed by biopsy). Just wanted to point out that to be totally gluten free(which you definitely need to be as you have a dx of coeliac)you need to not only cut out Wheat and Oats but Barley and Rye too. Alot of coeliacs...
  4. Well let's see... My husband has only ever seen 1 gastro doc-but it took many years for him to dx celiac disease. To be fair-my husband never really suffered with diarrheoa and also had negative bloods(just to make piecing the puzzle even harder) Around 18 months ago my hubbie was admitted to hosp after suffering a 2 week spell of diarrhoea. He'd lost...
  5. I'm not seeing a new picture yet-again! It's still your wedding photo(It is your wedding isn't it?)
  6. Thanks for the tip about the bulbs! Your dog sounds as if she has a great life, running around in all that land! 45 mins to the nearest town!!Now that sounds remote to me-I've always been a 'townie'!
  7. I can see it now Viola!,it really is lovely! I wish I had the patience for any needle work. Perhaps when the kids are older I will have more time (& patience)! I imagine you live in a big open space to have deer roaming in your garden(eating your plants),sounds beautiful,I have always wanted to go to Canada. Here in my tiny garden in...
  8. I can't see your new avatar yet!? Do I have to log off/on? Looking forward to seeing your embroidery! I should have started a thread on non-celiac topic-'what's the best flower you grow!'
  9. Hi,I'm from East London inUK. Getting off topic now but after the flowers have died down save the seeds and plant them in spring. They grow like wildflower!
  10. The flowers are called 'morning glory'. These grew in my garden in the summer(yes,it's took me that long to work out the digital camera!). The flowers only open in the morning(hence the name)-and judging from 'jersey angel's' post you grow them in the US too! Been tinkering with the computer for hours!Got there in the end
  11. There's no stopping me now! I think I've managed to upload a picture from my files. Hope you like my morning glory avatar!
  12. I don't think 'gluten sensitivity' (as opposed to 'coeliac disease')evers goes away. From what I've read on these boards there are plenty who don't have the classic markers for coeliac(Dq2 +8)but know that they feel terrible when they eat gluten. I'm sure there are others who can advise you better(Rachel-24 for instance!)-but even though they are classed...
  13. Well just to add more confusion- My husband had neg bloods-but massive villous atrophy!(?)
  14. Just remember that to get a positive blood test you have to have been eating a full gluten diet for at least 6 weeks. It takes that long to produce the antibodies
  15. When my husband had his first biopsy it was said that all 'looked' normal. However the results of the biopsy showed extensive villous atrophy-that's when he got his diagnosis. When they take a biopsy they look at it under a microscope-so even if all looks well to the naked eye it may not be. It's quite possible that coeliac disease could make your...
  16. Spot on! Actually it's my husband who is the coeliac dx about 14 months ago. Around 6 months ago I joined him in going gluten-free to support him. Never thought I'd notice any difference-but wow,a lifelong condition of eczema cleared up in a week! We all eat so much more better now-and it's only my husband's condition that's made me look into diet ...
  17. My husband was in a similar position,- after 6 months gluten-free ,no improvement, still 120lbs and so very weak he could hardly stand up unaided. My husband is now down to 5mg prednisolone from 40mg. It's been 14 months since dx,and very slowly he is now beginning to put some weight back on,and his energies have raised. He too get's very tired though...
  18. Probably stating the obvious here but could it be a lactose or casein problem? It's so hard constantly trying to work out where you've gone wrong(if at all) Obviously,if you continue to lose weight you will have to discuss this with your new doc(great find by the way!). Hope you're feeling better soon-I know my hubbie get's really disheartened when...
  19. Regarding Oats-well my husband has steered well clear! I always think that oats would be contaminated anyway as it's grown with wheat. Of course some coeliacs do eat oats with no apparent ill effects. As my hubbie has been so very ill it's not worth the chance. Scientifically,I think the jury is still out on oats. I found this thread about soy further...
  20. Thanks all!!
  21. Okay, you've explained to me how to do a 'quote',but what if you only want to quote a few lines or just 1 paragraph rather than the whole post??
  22. My husband had a big bowl of cereal('weetabix'!)with milk, Later in the eve he had one or two beers Bowls of cereal are a distant memory now as he's lactose intolerant too !
  23. Yes my husband had negative bloods(Ttg) but positive biopsy. He's been gluten-free for just over a year (still recovering) but much better

    ARCHIVED Joints Pains, You Too?

My husband was diagnosed with Psoriatic Arthritis(very similar to Rheumatoid Arthritis but with the skin condition Psoriasis) 4 yrs before dx of celiac disease. He was negative to rheumatoid factor-and tryed some of the 'nasty' drugs rheumatologists offered him(couldn't tolerate them) He was also so weak he couldn't open a bottle, jar or even turn on a tap...
  25. Hi Lisa, Auto-immune diseases do run in family genes, but it doesn't have to be the same disease. For example my friend has crohns disease, his sister has M.S,and his cousin has an under active thyroid. All auto-immune diseases. Here's a good link about M.S,Good Luck Open Original Shared Link
