ARCHIVED Starbucks To Debut Gluten Free Cake
casnco replied to savvvyseller's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I am so excited!!! Thank you Starbucks!!! On a recent trip to London, in the airport, we found a gluten free cake at the coffee shop! That was so good! It was individually wrapped, VERY moist, and tasty! Good to know we will be able to find something in an American Coffee Shop!!! -
Yea! I am getting a new puppy! (okay, I know all puppy's are new, He He) But I am concerned about feeding it food with gluten. No I wont be french kissing my dog. However, I am a freek about everything in my house being gluten free. Anyone else like me out there? What do you feed your pets?

ARCHIVED Easy, Yummy Bread In Minutes
casnco replied to lonewolf's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Man, I don't know what I did wrong but this was awful! Very chocolaty taste. Only cooked it for one min. and it was hard. Eatable, but hard and dense. And even an eggy taste. I might try it again and cook for a shorter time and leave out the coco. but first try I was not impressed. Sorry. -
Careful starting with a big chain like Whole Foods. I would go to local coffee shops. Start with a quantity you can reasonably bake. Don't throw away a good idea by starting off to big. Slow and steady will win great results. IMHO of course.

ARCHIVED Tip I Found Regarding Bread Rising
casnco replied to kaiess's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Hey, thanks! How silly am I? I have that. I was thinking the big glass one. I can be so silly! I am off to try yet again for the best bread ever. Today I will try a shorter rise and hope for rise while it cooks. Yesterdays fell in the middle while cooking. Go figure. -
ARCHIVED Tip I Found Regarding Bread Rising
casnco replied to kaiess's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I have been working on rise in my bread for 6 months. I have bought professional yeast. (Not sure it is much different) I freeze my yeast to keep it fresh. I do let my bread rise for 70 - 75 min. That is how long it takes to get to the top of the pan. When I let it rise for less time, no rise. but that is just me. I have been having difficulty with... -
ARCHIVED Wine Barrels Sealed With Flour Paste
casnco replied to monkeydragon's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I drink A LOT of wine!!! Having a glass right now. And I can say that I have never had a problem with any wine that I have drank. Occasionally I will get an acid stomach from a bottle that was aged in stainless steel. I must have Oaked wines. They are my favorite! I will be careful, but not so careful as to eliminate the oaked wines. -

Thanks, I will give all of those suggestions a try. I think I will try reducing the liquid first. I have always felt there might be a little much.

I am on a quest for the best gluten free bread known to man. I have a great recipe. However, when I take the bead out of the oven it immediately falls! Not flat like a pancake. But it falls in the middle. Just where I really want the height. Can anyone give me any ideas on how to keep it from falling. I let it cool for a while in the oven. But took...

ARCHIVED Different Symptoms Than Most
casnco replied to codyb87's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I would never rule any symptom out as caused by gluten. My symptoms are different every time. the stomach cramping being the worst of them. However, the DH is laughing matter and it seems I have some all the time. -
ARCHIVED Help -- Buffet Lunches?
casnco replied to I'm a glutant's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Sounds like you have very nice co workers. I usually won't participate at work. I would suggest you work very closely with whomever sets it up to help prevent cross contamination. Also, you need to go through the line first and take what you want. Those are the best ways to eat at a buffet at work. Good luck! Let us know how it goes. A salad bar could... -

I am with you. I don't need Frito Lay. If i am going to have to look at the codes on their bag to determine where they were made. Let alone memorize the numbers. Forget it. It is to much work. I already read every label and had to learn all of those idiosyncrasies. There are other brands out there that don't make me work that much! -
ARCHIVED How Long Does It Take For Symptoms To Develop After Eating Gluten?
casnco replied to MJS's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
That is a loaded question. Bowl reactions are usually within min. and last forever! I also suffer with DH. That usually takes a great deal longer to show up. Also, minor cross contaminations will not affect my bowls, but the DH will show up sometimes weeks later. Then the miriad of symptoms can happen from immediately to weeks. Hard to tell what causes... -
ARCHIVED I Need A Rolled Sugar Cookie Recipe
casnco replied to Darn210's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I used this recipe and it was fabulous!!! I use butter for my shortning and a mixture of Pamela's bakeing mix and brown rice flour. I also added about 1/4 cup of milk because the dough was very dry. I did not refridgerate the dough. I just rolled it out without any issues. These are the best sugar cookies I have ever made!!!! Including my pre=glutenfree... -
ARCHIVED Need To Recreate Pamela's Pancake And Baking Mix
casnco replied to cruelshoes's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I know this is an old thread but wanted to comment for anyone that is reading. I too have tried this mixture on my own and it is great! I have been making it for about 6 months or so. The other day I needed to make a new batch but was out of some of the ingredients. I live far from a store to purchase such items so I use (Company Name Removed - They Spammed... -
ARCHIVED Celiac - Fast Recovery!
casnco replied to Dustda18's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hmm, sounds interesting. I am always looking for ways to avoid all of the crazy side effects I get from a cc. Would you mind sharing some of your normal symptoms that this recipe solves for you? Have you tried this more than once? Do you end up constipated after you flush your system like that? And if you don't mind me asking, where did you hear of doing... -
Well, I was cc again. Seems to be the story of my life. But here is a funny. At least I think so. My elbows have broken out as usual, but this time I have a small breakout on my toe! right at the first joint! I am waiting for another one to break out. I just thought this spot is funny. Anyone else have strange spots break out?

ARCHIVED Clubbing Of Toenails?
casnco replied to ptkds's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Doctors! UGH! Does her daughters fingers and toes that club? She must also have a child with unexplained illnesses, or maybe even celiac. Sorry, can't help myself sometimes. Are your dd nailbeds pink, except for the white line? They should be the same color as yours regardless of the disfiguration. If they are not pink then I would pursue this further... -
ARCHIVED Godiva Chocolates
casnco replied to digmom1014's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
That used to be my treat to myself when I went to the mall. I too received the exact same reply a year or so ago. Don't you just wonder how hard it would be for a candy manufacturer to avoid the use of flour? Really, most of the ingredients they use are sugar, corn syrup, corn starch, flavorings and chocolate. Guess I will just keep my money and they... -
Has anyone noticed the ingredient inulin or chikory root as an ingredient in many factory made baked goods and mixes? Has anyone incorporated this ingredient into their own home baked breads and cookies? This seems to be a fat substitute/fiber addition when used in baking. It also lends a sweetness to the product. Any insight would be helpful. I keep...

ARCHIVED Clubbing Of Toenails?
casnco replied to ptkds's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
This crazy celiac Disease causes so many crazy symptoms that I would not be suprized to hear that was the cause of the clubbing. However, I work with people everyday with pulmonary/heart issues who have clubbing and it is caused by a lack of oxygen. Lethergy is caused by an increase in carbon dioxide. both related 2 breathing. Is your daughter difficult...
