ARCHIVED Happy Spring, Fellow Gardeners!
IrishHeart replied to notme's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Sorry, kiddo. There was a famous blizzard in May, 1977 that I recall very well. I am thinking I was about your age (I was in college) Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link -
And as always, this discussion (like all discussions on here) comes down to a personal decision to do what one may "need", based on what makes someone have what they deem a "gluten reaction" from a food that does not inherently contain gluten. We will all have to agree to disagree, I think. And continue to take whatever precautions one deems necessary...

I called it "gluten head hell " PLUS, I blame both of those, too..and celiac. I told ya, I blame celiac for everything. It's the ultimate scapegoat. Forget to do something? "Oh sorry, honey, gluten head." Didn't screw the top on the coffee mug quite well enough this morning. Set it down to tie my shoes, went to lift it by the top....it went all... -

I have similar issues with drugs, which is why I put up with chronic pain rather than take the stuff they give me, so no need to explain. The one that did not make me yucky for days was when I took just a teensy bit of xanax before a dental surgery that was going to last over an hour. Without it, I may have balked at doing it and it had to be done.. ... -

Klutzy is contagious. Hubs took off a bit of skin with the mandoline once, too, truth be told. That thing has been benched, I just blame celiac for everything. Easier than admitting my boo boos . -
I eat locally grown or organic and I wash them with warm water and brush with a veggie brush. exactly!. and my point was about rinsing the beans anyway-- the topic at hand.. I still cannot see washing berries, etc. with soap. Warm water rinses work fine. Buy organic or local .... less chance of pesticides.

omg, barty...spit on the laptop funny!!. (and sorry about your friend Kelly ) -
I simply rinse them and I have no issues. I am a very sensitive celiac who would have gut pain, nausea, and whole host of issues, including neurological ones within hours if any gluten was "getting me".. I simply cannot imagine washing any foods in soap.. yuk. What will adding soap do that pure water rinses will not? Nothing. Sorry. If...

I had a blast using a paper shredder for 3 days. That thing is awesome! The things "someone" had kept "JIC"...oy. Everyone needs receipts from 1984 right? I should talk, I had student grade sheets, letters, evals, etc. from just as far back. I kept some of them because they meant something to me at the time. One read- through on a rainy afternoon and... -

Being a klutz my entire life and often covered in bruises and bumps from my many waltzes into door frames, cabinets I left open, misjudging sidewalk curbs, a. moving escalator and the actual size of the opening on the car door, and earning the nicknames "Calamity Jane" and Lucy Ricardo (you kiddos may have to Google those to get that part) I can relate. ... -

But for you to get to the bottom of this and stop the madness and get your life back, you may well have to do this, Jo. I am not a drug pusher, but maybe you can ask the primary care doc for a small dose of xanax to calm you enough to get you to doctor visits. IMHO -

The only day I want to see any snow: Christmas Eve. The maple tress are popping open, the lilacs are getting ready to burst open and it will smell wonderful for 2 weeks. The large bush is outside my bedroom and I will open the window. (even if it is too cold). The daffodils are open but the tulips are taking their time. I mowed yesterday. yup...
