If I had not lived them myself, I would find it hard to believe. I had so many bizarre symptoms that I could not understand why it was NOT allergies. Crazy. Just crazy. Until I read about the various immune and integumentary System symptoms related to celiac disease, then it made sense. But they are all gone! I still get puffy eyelids (blepharitis...

ARCHIVED According To Recent Data, Gluten-Free Doesn't Seem To Be Enough
IrishHeart replied to Gfresh404's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I have met several middle-age or older celiacs, the majority of whom tell me they feel great now (with the average healing time among them 6-9 years). My favorite recovery story is a woman in her 70's, who told me flat out that she "never knew how it felt to feel GOOD" until now. She realizes she felt like crap her whole life (but thought it was... -
For what it is worth? For many months before (and even after DX), I had what I consider allergic reactions to seemingly everything. Food, lotions, even the air I breathed. I was so uncomfortable and unhappy. I cannot tolerate Benadryl or any of the things that work for others. I went to an allergist who ran all the IgG panels and IgE skin prick...

That is great news! Keep up the good work.

ARCHIVED Cross-Contamination Considerations
IrishHeart replied to kaygato's topic in Super Sensitive People
Absolutely agree with this thought. CC is CC. You need to avoid dipping the communion wafer. It's the same as someone dipping a wheat thin into the onion dip and you using a gluten-free cracker and doing the same. -

  Thanks for that, hon. hehehe I always say to people who ask me about celiac, if you think gluten is causing you trouble, Go with your gut. Sadly, humor is lost on some folks. Even in the depths of my despair, I found a way to laugh. We humans take ourselves way too seriously sometimes, doncha think?? -
I know you are feeling scared because you find yourself having some inexplicable ( and possibly new? ) reactions to food, but the last thing you need is to become fearful of food. This will serve no purpose. You need nourishment and protein and drinking shakes will not give you enough of that. You are not necessarily a super sensitive celiac. It is too...

ARCHIVED What Supplements To Help Heal?
IrishHeart replied to Mom-of-Two's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Aside from probiotics, which IMHO are essential, I believe good EFAs (which Skylark has mentioned) and a good multivitamin with minerals should do it. If you hate big capsules, how about liquid form? Many celiacs seem to need a boost in Vit D3. It is very wise to have your thryoid checked, but I would also suggest that while it is great that you want... -
ARCHIVED Healing Through A Chiropractor. Mmmhmm.
IrishHeart replied to Melissa Palomo's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Just to add to the information that Darn has graciously supplied, I read this by Dr. Jay Marks: "What is latent and silent celiac disease? The terms latent and silent celiac disease are used to refer to individuals who have inherited the genes that predispose them to celiac disease but have not developed the symptoms or signs of celiac disease. Latent... -

Hon, I honestly do not think anyone (on this particular forum) will have any such claims/evidence for you. IMHO -
ARCHIVED Healing Through A Chiropractor. Mmmhmm.
IrishHeart replied to Melissa Palomo's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I think this is what you will find. Anecdotal evidence of people who say they "feel better ON gluten" and come to find out, months or even years later, they have developed villous atrophy or other AI diseases as a result of continuous gluten ingestion. I met a guy at the local gluten-free cafe --and my cousin's wife has a similar story--and he told me... -
Interesting...but, it still does not persuade me to try it Not enough evidence of PROLONGED ingestion or what will happen further down the road. Too risky. IMHO (and this is just me, but I don't like sourdough bread anyway) I think SOMEDAY maybe someone will find a way for celiacs to consume gluten foods again without damage to the body...

celiac disease is NOT Dxed via colonoscopy. https://www.celiac.com/articles/5/1/How-is-celiac-disease-diagnosed/Page1.html You may not find a dermo who knows a darn thing about DH. A KNOWLEDGABLE GI doctor is your best bet. But, it's your choice.

ALL the medical literature says what I told you, hon. IF her son is a diagnosed celiac-- and he continues to consume gluten?-- there is no doubt he will be have villous atrophy, develop more AI diseases or lymphoma. She is endangering the welfare of her child and slowly killing him. From the Univ. of Maryland Center for Celiac... -

This thread is very old and the poster may not see your post and question. Just so you know! -
From the Univ. of Maryland Center for Celiac Research: Is it necessary to have an intestinal biopsy to confirm the diagnosis of Dermatitis Herpetiformis (DH)? A skin biopsy is sufficient to confirm the diagnosis of DH. DH is the skin manifestation of celiac disease.

ARCHIVED Healing Through A Chiropractor. Mmmhmm.
IrishHeart replied to Melissa Palomo's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Celiac is an autoimmune disease. Like all other AI diseases, there is no known cure. There is a proven treatment that brings about remission of symptoms which is achieved through strict dietary compliance on a gluten free diet. That's it. There is no magic bullet. Chiropractic, reiki, special "gluten ease" enzymes, salt water cleanses, magic potions... -
Jane, DH IS celiac disease and if you have THAT, he is going to say you have the skin manifestation of celiac disease and he may want to biopsy you and make a DX. Yes, vertigo is a symptom of celiac disease. (I had it ) Are you still consuming gluten? And YES, you need a good GI doctor to treat celiac disease. It is a disease of the GI tract...

ARCHIVED What Am I Doing Wrong
IrishHeart replied to buddhabelly's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
yes, indeed....and my hubs agrees with you, Skylark. (he's the bread maker, not I, thank goodness) although I bake everything else. The recipe I posted yields a decent, "squishy" loaf --at least for the first 3 days, then I toast it or make grilled sammies or the ends become seasoned bread crumbs for meatballs or meatloaf. -
Meggielynn beat me to it!! Dr. William Gusten at Saratoga-Schenectagy Gastro. He has an office in Burnt Hills as well. He is very celiac-savvy, thorough, compassionate and patient-friendly. Great at follow-through. He did not intend to be a "celiac expert", I do not think, but he is one as far as I am concerned. I love this guy. I never...

Gluten Free Sandwich Bread (adapted from gluten-free Girl's recipe and tweaked to our liking ) Ingredients 2 cups white rice flour *****NOTE: For variety and higher protein/fiber, substitute 1 cup garbanzo bean flour OR 1 cup brown rice flour for ONE of the cups of white rice flour. We use the brown rice flour and like the... -
ARCHIVED Determined To Try Gluten Relief
IrishHeart replied to alicewa's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I WOULD RECOMMEND THAT maybe you should HAVE YOUR HEAD EXAMINED. Alice, I have the patience of a saint, but you've pushed even me to the wall with your silliness. I have begged you to get counseling for this denial you are in, haven't I? Haven't we all? There is no cure or magic pill for celiac. You cannot keep risking your life by eating gluten... -
