  1. um...what does a craving for probiotics feel like??? just curious??
  2. That is weird, because when I take opiods--I get AGITATED instead of knocked out Sleep meds, pain meds??---might as well give me shots of adrenaline. If I take a xanax--offered to me for sleep?--or flexeril for muscle pain---I am doped up for a few days...even a little tiny bit does me in. So, I don't take anything! Benadryl--I lie awake with...
  3. Dancing Queen--ABBA
  4. Maybe you other super sensitives know why I react so strongly to even the smallest doses of medications, and to novacaine at the dentist, even the eye drops at the eye doctor yesterday. (They just confirmed to me that it is rare for someone's pupils to remain dilated and light- sensitive longer than 24 hours and for my face to be flushed red hot, plus I ...
  5. One is the Loneliest Number--Three Dog Night
  6. In view of the fact that you have to make yourself--and your whole family sick-- for MONTHS for someone to take you seriously.... there are other less-invasive alternatives...how about genetic or stool testing?? BTW...Pica...that's a giant red flag, isn't it? I know you would prefer a "REAL" diagnosis, but since you are deeply affected by gluten...
  7. Yep, I alternated D and C for YEARS---they call it "irritable bowel"--yeah right!!--of course it is irritable--but WHY? Now, we know!! Stay the course--I promise you it gets better! Once you rule out anything else going on in your GI tract---try the probiotics (dairy free, of course) and drink lots of water and stick to the gluten-free diet and eat...
  8. I would think he/she can do the test. It's not terribly horrid. It's a test kit and you do a few "things" for a few days (they call it random sampling) and put them into test tubes and they are tested by a lab for parasites, etc. I did one and it showed a total lack of good bacteria. .So, now I supplement with probiotics and I "enjoy" nice solid, daily...

    ARCHIVED Subway

I agree!! That is the problem! People do not understand CC issues very well at all. I know the owner, Sherry Lynn--and she is also a celiac ---and every single one of her employees understands the hazards of CC. No one can bring anything into the place --customers or delivery people either--no food or containers and every single thing in there is...

    ARCHIVED Subway

By any chance...do you live in NYS? There IS a totally gluten-free restaurant, bakery, deli here in Latham, NY called Sherry Lynn's. TOTALLY. GLUTEN FREE. The first time I ate there, I started to cry because I knew I would be safe. Apparently, I am not the only one to shed tears ...happens frequently, the owner tells me.. Like you, I dream of a...
  11. Don't be sorry!((hugs)) It's hard when you feel so bad, I know! I was all over the place the first few months gluten-free...but the fact that your BMs are more firm is encouraging, yes?! Not sure about the white specks. Did you have stool testing done? Mention these flecks to the doctor?
  12. I'm with you! and I used to love being a gourmet-type 8-course "experimenter" who threw elaborate parties for people to taste my stuff ...not now. Too tired, painful joints, hard to work up the enthusiasm. My appetite has suffered, of course, being ill for so long ...but hey, maybe it will come back to me!!?? So many of you guys seem to have recovered that...
  13. To Meg and Hawthorn: I was very overweight for 10 years, had C (the doc told me take more fiber--so what did I do? I ate more whole wheat!! ) and had muscle/joint pain and low moods (he gave me antidepressants) for 10 years BEFORE this triggered for good and I plummeted 90 lbs. without trying...I fell into the thinking "well, I don't have the diarrhea...
  14. I empathize with your dilemma here. The gluten challenge seems barbaric to me --considering what it does to us. I was like this for so very long (pre-diagnosis)--had all of your symptoms and a few dozen more and I barely hung on to my sanity. I still do not know HOW I survived it all (a very loving husband and a stubborn nature, I guess? ) ...

I always figure salad BARS and OPEN containers in restaurants/delis are just gluten-filled landmines Glad your gluten-savvy friend saw the potential hazard. Thanks for sharing the story!

  18. Thanks for the info--very enlightening---but I have two questions, if you don't mind. Just curious--can you tell us the name of the restaurant chain so we know it's not safe to eat even gluten-free fried foods there?? I mean, if they advertise they have dedicated fryers and then, do not adhere to that policy, then that's pretty important to divulge...
  19. Hi Kiwi!--you have to use a word from the previous post--either the song title or the artist's name..so, shroom wrote: Dirty Work - Frank Zappa you would need to use one of those four words. and yes, Ella is the bomb! but, now I posted: Land Down Under--Men at Work Your turn! EDITED TO ADD:: OHMYGOSH... I just realized,...

  23. I don't know about you, kiddo---but isn't almost everything about this weird ???(that is a mild word ) I have so many weird symptoms, I started to wonder if I was secretly being poisoned by someone...good thing I'm not really paranoid or anything
  24. YAAY! here's to ending the madness!! That's how I felt, too...I welcomed/embraced the diagnosis because I knew what it was and in my heart, I knew it would mean that madness would stop! You have the right attitude--stay this positive and you'll do well! Good for you! The "Cleaner" you live, the faster you heal. Just my opinion. My hubby went gluten...
