ARCHIVED Is Anyone Else Seeing A Rise In The Number Of Kids With This?
etta694 replied to T.H.'s topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I homeschool too albeit in an isolated environment with only a handful of families within 50 miles. However I agree with all the above.. homeschool families do a lot of research into everything so it isn't unusual to see them researching any anomaly in their experience and then apply problem solving.. hence discovery of gluten issues. The reason I am... -

I am just commiserating with you.... I have just spent 3 days putting a letter together spewing my anger at the doctors here who have ignored me for years. (not that I will send it) But.. I know it is part of the grieving process, you know, denial , anger , let's make a deal please God , depression , and .. acceptance . It's hard. (I think...

ARCHIVED Anyone Choke When Eating Certain Foods?
etta694 replied to yaelchai's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I have a friend here that has something similar. Her problem has to do with the sphincter muscle that leads into the stomach. Hers was so tight she had surgery to cut it enough to loosen it.. which changed the foods she was able to eat. Hers was so bad(tight) that, in the end, she couldn't get Ensure down and sometimes water. Initially it was foods... -

ARCHIVED Could This Be Due To A Glutening?
etta694 replied to zus888's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I've been gluten free since July and it was a process.. I think I would say I have really gotten everything out by Christmas. All my extracurricular gluttening has been exhaustion, C (really bad C) and grey complexion and circles around my eyes. If it's really bad I feel sickish. The 'sleep attacks' used to happen when I ate whole meals of gluten but... -

Whenever I read your posts, Love2travel, I fall apart drooling.. (and others too.. but especially these...) If I made this, it would read - chicken potatoes and carrots cornbread (never cooked a leek in my life) and that's how it would taste too... It's a good thing people post meals.. it makes me want to learn to cook.. -
ARCHIVED People Not Taking You Seriously
etta694 replied to LePandaRouge's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Costco has an awesome cracker called Crunchmaster that is VERY tasty!! but, generally,.. there is a shortage of snacks IMHO. Hear hear!! I totally agree.. I am amazed, reading back over this, how many friends and family go into denial about whether wheat can cause issues, and the extent to which people go to 'ignore' (I will not call it abuse... -
ARCHIVED Could This Be Due To A Glutening?
etta694 replied to zus888's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You know how sometimes you can't really speak to an issue though it is familiar..? THIS is NOT one of those times... THIS IS ME.. before going gluten free. And yes, you can react that fast. I lived with this for years, eating and then, an hour or 2 later, almost passing out from the need to sleep. It would almost feel like I had been drugged. And at... -

Now that I am gluten free things move along pretty good but when I need to - stool softener and a fibre laxative (got at Walmart). LOTS of water, salads and veggies.... and massaging my abdominal area when I go to bed also relaxes the muscles (which are always sore) and helps things move.

ARCHIVED Confused, Frustrated- Lactose Intolerance Test Not Done Right?
etta694 replied to JenHarris's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I read back a ways and you are still waiting for blood results and a possible endoscopy to schedule for you, right? I am a fly on the wall... I would love to see you just go gluten free. I know that would screw up the biopsy if you need one but... this story is so familiar. Symptoms and distress, doctors and tests that say "You are fine... everything...
