  1. So I tried to tell him and make it seem as small of an issue as possible. But it didn't go well. I don't know what to do.

ARCHIVED Need A Doctor In Nyc?

Dr. Michael Eng 212-529-3788 located on 5th Ave and 20th St He's very attentive, nice, even funny. He showed a lot of concern when I first told him of my symptoms and was very proactive in getting the mystery solved. His staff is very helpful and nice; when I had a question for the doctor, they were able to have him call me back personally within...
  3. Haha, I'm thinking I should just tell him to read this topic. Pretty funny.
  4. Haha funny how we have to have a "safe kissing" talk. Maybe we should just put plastic bags over our lips. Abstinence is the only truly safe way!
  5. Does anyone have any good advice about talking to their significant other about kissing after he/she eats gluten? I'm sure a lot of non-celiacs would think that it's silly, but I know it's a real concern. Yes, it does take the spontaneousness out of things and may mean carrying a portable toothbrush to restaurants. But how do I talk to him about it...
  6. Oh wow, that sucks. I'm sorry you had such a bad experience with them. I normally find in-store people pretty unhelpful, but in calling CVS they were very nice and understanding. Two more gluten-free products: CVS exfoliating body wash (similar to Dove) CVS cocoa butter deep conditioning moisture I'm taking a CVS trip this weekend!
  7. Some good (and amusing) news: I had my second endoscopy today, and it went very well! (I didn't eat for 15 hours beforehand, so I though "well this better work now!" haha) I woke up and the doctor said that from what he saw I had all of the internal signs of Celiac and that my biopsy results would be back in two weeks. I said that it was good to know...
  8. Brown Rice Quinoa Udi's/Rudi's bread with pumpkinseed butter and dried cranberries (also with almond butter) Fruit Steamed veggies Hummus and carrots Lightly salted cashews Walnuts Salmon with garlic and dill Sweet potato french fries Green tea Almond milk Dark chocolate (thank goodness for chocolate!) Greek yogurt (may have to cut that soon...
  9. Glad to know I'm not alone in this! I went gluten-free almost a week ago, and I'm so hungry all the time! I'm eating a lot of fruit, quinoa, nut butters, and good quality foods. I do need to find a way to up my protein intake because I'm out of the house a lot and can only cook in the mornings (I think I may be lactose intolerant, as well, so I'm trying to...
  10. I get my vitamins from Puritan's Pride. They're very good about labeling when their products are gluten-free whether directly on the bottle or online. And they have a really great deal where you buy 2, get one free.
  11. The L'Oreal EverStrong Sulfate-Free Hydrating shampoo/conditioner is gluten-free. I just verified it with their company last week. Hope you're able to find something that works for you!
  12. Update: I guess I'm lucky that I tend to adapt to new foods quickly because I now really enjoy Udi's/Rudi's toasted (they taste the same to me). I'm actually looking forward to eating it again later tonight! So thanks for the suggestions! Pumpkinseed butter is my favorite food to have on bread (I also add some dried cranberries - yum!). Not many people...
  13. Thanks. I'm actually glad they were so high. It makes me feel more confident about the diagnosis. I just hope that it doesn't mean my intestines have been incredibly damaged. But we'll find out soon. I'm excited to finally understand what's been going on.
  14. I just spoke with my doctor, and he gave me the antibody levels for some of my blood work so that I could have them for my records: tTG-IgA >300 Positive EMA-IgA >1:320 Positive Gliadin >400 (high) Did I notate this properly? PS Day #5 gluten-free and going strong!
  15. I was recently diagnosed with Celiac via blood test. My mom, sister, grandmother, grandfather and I all believed we had IBS until now, so they're all getting tested. My sister's blood tests results came back and they were negative. But part of me is so sure she has at least some sort of sensitivity to gluten. We both get sick from everything (why? because...
  16. To save a little money I tend to use a lot of CVS brand products. I've called their customer service number twice, and they are so very helpful and nice! How refreshing. They were able to answer my questions about most of the specific products I had on the spot, and if they couldn't they contacted the manufacturers and were sure to return my call within a...
  17. This may be slightly off the topic, but it concerned me - what's this about false positives being common? Everything that I've read online and in books have said that blood tests are very accurate, and most people who've replied to my posts on this site have said that false positives are very rare while false negatives are more common....Even if she can't...
  18. Ah, I checked. I eat Dove dark chocolate, and there's milk in it. Anyone have any favorite brands? (maybe one that won't break my bank account in chocolate alone? )
  19. Awesome. Then I think I'm just going to go off it....except I do have a small piece of dark chocolate every night....maybe I'll keep that in till I get the test results....I think I may go crazy otherwise.
  20. So today is day #3 off gluten after being diagnosed via blood test. I was doing pretty well until I had some spaghetti squash today with pecorino romano cheese on it. Then my stomach started to hurt and feel expanded. I also don't feel well after eating yogurt (I don't eat milk, ice cream or butter much). I thought this was weird because aged cheese and yogurt...
  21. Ok, so I tried toasting Rudi's multigrain bread, and yes it was much better. I also took a mega shopping trip today - my cabinet was looking pretty empty after cleaning out the crackers, oatmeal, pancake mix and flour. I got a ton of new gluten-free flours and am planning on baking a loaf myself this week. Here's hoping! I'll post the recipe if it turns out...
  22. I make brown rice, add 1/2 avocado (chopped), 1/2 sheet of seaweed (torn into small pieces), and gluten-free soy sauce - it's an avocado roll in a bowl! Yummy!
  23. I really enjoy making sweet potato french fries - I use nonstick cooking spray, top with some spicy seasoning, and bake them in my oven, so they're really healthy. There are tons of recipes for them online.
  24. My mother pointed me towards this recipe when I found out I had Celiac last week - I just tried it, and it's AMAZING!!! I just had to share it with you all. I made it with almond milk, strawberries and walnuts. Incredibly healthy and delicious! Can't wait to make it again tomorrow. (Makes one serving) 1/4 cup almond milk, soy milk, or 1% low fat...
  25. Thanks for that reply, eatmeat4good. My doctor said that the count that the blood test measured (is it called a tTG? I'm not sure) - anyway, he said that my number is 300 and is WAY above the norm. And I've read that biopsies can sometimes come back with a false negative anyway. I have all of the symptoms, and if the doctor thinks that I'm that positive for...
