  1. I always carry a Lara Bar, Think Thin bar, and little bag of cashews in my purse. We have a fridge at work, so I keep vegetables and some protein powder there, and I have a few cans of salmon in my locker. There's also a street vendor with fresh fruit right by my work, so I can always live off of fruit for the night if I need to.
  2. I like this thread! I basically eat the same types of food as I did before going gluten-free, just with a few adjustments, so a lot of these have made me happy for a long time. Definitely a few new additions, though. Flourless chocolate cake! Home made gluten-free buckwheat bread with pumpkinseed butter and dried cranberries Dark chocolate Almond...
  3. Welcome to the board!
  4. Hi and welcome to the forum! I don't have a bread maker, but I've found that baking bread in my oven isn't very hard. Here are the two recipes that I use (the second one is a quick bread that doesn't use yeast, so it's a little easier to make).
  5. Thanks for the input! I'll do my best with them. Goodness, it seems like I got rid of half my kitchen.
  6. Shoot. I looked it up, and I think it's nonstick. Looks like I'll be making another trip to Bed Bath and Beyond. :-/
  7. They're pretty new, actually. Maybe a year or year and a half old. I didn't use them much, so I'm hoping to save them. I just realized, I have a wooden roller for cookies. Is that salvageable?
  8. Hi everyone! I have some cupcake pans that I haven't used yet since going gluten-free, so I wanted to ask - what is the best way to clean them to get rid of any gluten residue? I cleaned my stainless steal pots with a lot of soap and hot water. Think that'd do the trick? Thanks!
  9. Hi there and welcome to the board! Good for you for trying out the diet. If you think the itching may have been caused by gluten, check out the other products you use on your skin (lotions, makeup, soap, also check toothpaste while you're at it) and see if it clears up. Hope you keep feeling better!
  10. So I'm feeling out what's been going on in my body, and my gut is telling me that my body is very sensitive since it's healing and is just having a hard time digesting food, in general. I've done some research and here's my new plan: I've been reading about food combination theories for healthy digestion. The book that I have explains the order in which...
  11. I went through some pretty intense withdrawals (stomach aches and migraines mostly), so I guess it depends on the person. But you seem to have a really great attitude about it, which is very important. Be prepared that you may not feel better right away. I'm 2 1/2 months into the diet myself and still have ups and downs. You may find out that you have other...
  12. Hi! Welcome to the forum (I love it here, too!) Most of us will tend to stay away from dairy for the first few months to give our bodies a chance to heal. Raw vegetables can also be difficult to digest. Stick with whole foods, and avoid processed foods as much as possible. Here are my staples: Pumpkinseed and almond butter Chicken, fish, shrimp...
  13. I have one about relationships/family members that I found to be really important, and this is just from my experience: Remember that anxiety is contagious. If you continually freak out about what a big change it is, people around you will start getting edgy, too. It's a big change and a lot to take in for loved ones, as well, and I've found that people...
  14. Hi and welcome to the board! I know that it can be very unnerving when you first find out about the diagnosis, but remember it's not the end of the world. Think of it as a good thing - now you know what's wrong and you can do something about it! It's the beginning of your daughter getting better. My blood levels were also very high. My doctor told me...
  15. Just called them again. Their baking soda ("Guaranteed Value" brand) is also gluten-free. The company that they use is Foodhold USA, for reference. So very nice.
  16. For any of you who have a Stop and Shop near you, I've found it to be a great resource. I've bought several of their S&S brand products, and have called them a few times to ask about ingredients. They've been so nice! The moment I say "Celiac Disease", they say, "Oh yes! No problem, let me check the gluten free status of that." Things that they've...
  17. Yeah, I'm a little over two months into the diet. I'm pretty sure that there is very little opportunity for me to be CCed (I live alone, raided my kitchen, and am a personal trainer so I know a lot about nutrition). But you're right, you never know! I've heard of some people getting CCed from a dirty doorknob. Anyway, thanks so much for the advice. I'll definitely...
  18. I ordered Rice Protein Powder from (Company Name Removed - They Spammed This Forum and are Banned). It's not the best tasting, but it's gluten and lactose free and is also vegan, so it does the job.
  19. Thanks so much for sharing about your experience. I think I'll have to try the elimination diet at some point. I just feel like I don't know what is an intolerance and what is my body feeling icky because of its still poor ability to digest food in general. It's a process, so I'll work on it.
  20. Tbs of brown rice protein powder mixed with water (not my favorite part of breakfast, but I do it for the protein boost) Slice of home made gluten-free buckwheat bread with pumpkinseed butter, topped with dried cranberries Banana Greet Tea Yum!
  21. Lapses in judgement are part of life. We live and learn. So don't beat yourself up too much about it - remember that you're human and learn from your mistake. The good news is you will probably never do that again! Hope you feel better!
  22. I'm considering getting a food allergy test done. I'm two months gluten-free. I know everyone heals at different rates, but I continue feel sick after I eat quite often, so I'm worried that I may have other intolerances. What kind of test is it (ie blood test)? How accurate are they? Is casein one of the things tested or is there a separate test for...
  23. I've gained about five pounds since going gluten-free two months ago. I've always been really skinny, so I think it's a result of several things: 1. My body is finally accepting nutrients and calories. 2. I'm still getting stomach aches, so I haven't been able to be on my normal eating schedule. 3. When I'm sick it's really hard to work out...
  24. You definitely did the right thing! Whenever people offer me food at work now, I basically tell them that I have a food allergy (seems easier to explain than Celiac). I sometimes work with kids, and the only time when I take the food is when these two girls (ages 5 and 6) occasionally give me cupcakes and cookies. I say thank you so much and that I'll eat...
  25. Yes, anything that can possibly come into contact with your mouth you need to be careful of. It's easy for shampoo/conditioner/soap to drip down your face in the shower. Garnier Fructice is a great company, and Dove is very good about making gluten ingredients clear on their labels. Also, if you put lotion on and then eat something with your hands you could...
