I'm going to see my doctor for my 6 month check up after going gluten free. When I got my 3 month blood work done, he was shocked with how much I've improved. I'm feeling pretty good, so I'm hoping that my tTg levels will have gotten even better. What I'm concerned about now is the possibility of getting a colonoscopy done. When I was at the doctor last...

ARCHIVED I Tried Diary Today!
WinterSong replied to WinterSong's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Ugg do I feel like a goof. The title of this thread is supposed to be I Tried Dairy Today, not "diary". But I can't figure out how to change it....opps -
I was very bold today. I went off dairy when I was diagnosed, and my doctor suggested trying it again at the six month mark (beginning of October). I would get horrible stomach contractions and cramps from dairy products with even low lactose levels like yogurt and aged cheeses, so I was hoping that I wasn't casein intolerant, too. But I've occasionally had...

ARCHIVED Nail Polish?
WinterSong replied to WinterSong's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Here's one more! This is from a company with inexpensive products that I found at drug stores in NY. Dear Jessica, I'm writing to you from Brucci Ltd. We are located in New York. Your e-mail was forwarded to me from our distributor in So. Africa. In regards to your question of gluten, I'm pleased to say the none of our polish contains gluten... -

Message from Sally Hansen: Dear Jessica: Thank you for E-mailing us regarding our Sally Hansen Portfolio. We are always pleased to hear from our consumers and we appreciate your enthusiasm for our products. As required by law, each product's package, insert or hang-tag exhibits a complete list of its ingredients. If the words "gluten," ... -
ARCHIVED Nail Polish?
WinterSong replied to WinterSong's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Just received a response! So nice that they were so quick and specific! The following OPI products contain hydrolyzed wheat and/or oat protein, which may have traces of gluten. These products should definitely be avoided by anyone with gluten sensitivity: Acrylic Nail Base Coat Feet -
ARCHIVED Nail Polish?
WinterSong replied to WinterSong's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I'm actually not sure if I had a reaction at all. I've been extremely tired lately, though that may be from overwork/stress (I very much need a vacation). Other than that I feel fine. Part of the reason why I wear nail polish is because I have a bad habit of picking at my nails and sometimes biting them, but I don't when I wear polish because I don... -

ARCHIVED Nail Polish?
WinterSong posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I just found out that the nail polish I've been using from Nicka K isn't gluten free. Shoot. Does anyone know of a gluten free nail polish that's easy to find? -
I'm in NYC, as well, and I'm with Dr Michael Eng. My first appointment with him I said, "I think I might have Celiac Disease," and he agreed to test me right away. He's very nice and attentive, and I never have a difficult time scheduling appointments. I highly recommend him.

ARCHIVED Technical Question About Healing
WinterSong posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Do the villi start growing back once you start a gluten free diet? Or do they grow only begin growing back once antibody levels are normal? Anyone know? I'm just curious. -
I was cleaning out my closet this week, and I found two beautiful aluminum cookie tins that I bought last year for Christmas (pre-gluten free). Is this something that I can wash well enough to use again now that I'm gluten free? I think I should be concerned about the seam around the edges, but maybe I could clean that with a toothbrush? Thanks!

ARCHIVED Migranes After Starting Gluten-Free
WinterSong replied to singingfrizzle's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I never had migraines before in my life until I went gluten free. I experienced them after my second or third week as part of my withdrawal process. They went away for the most part shortly after that. Perhaps she's going through the same thing? -
ARCHIVED Hand Sanitizer?
WinterSong posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I know that hand sanitizer can't get rid of gluten or wash it away like soap/water does, but I spend a lot of time at health clubs and sometimes use it if I've been touching a lot of equipment. I was using Purell because I heard it was gluten free but I'm all out. I found a Duane Reade store brand hand sanitizer lying around and am wondering if I can use... -
ARCHIVED Reintroducing Dairy
WinterSong replied to Marilyn R's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Pizza! And really good locatelli romano cheese. I'm Italian, and my pasta dishes just aren't the same without good cheese. I'm looking forward to doing a dairy challenge in October. Good luck with yours! -
Thanks, everyone! I still have a little ways to go (I believe my doctor said that normal is 15), but it's such a huge improvement! It's just so exciting to see that all of my hard work is paying off.

I went in to see my doctor after about 3.5 months on the diet. He ran a Celiac panel/blood test but warned me that I may not see any change until after six months (especially because my tTg was off the charts, over 300). He also sent me to another facility to do a small bowel series to check for lymphoma and to make sure nothing else was wrong in that area...

ARCHIVED How Do You Deal With Stress?
WinterSong replied to WinterSong's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
So I spoke with my doctor and he thinks that even if I do have vitamin deficiencies that a gluten free multi-vitamin every day (which I already take) would work fine. I still think that I want to try to up my vitamin B levels to see what happens. Anyone have an idea of which vitamin B I should try exactly? Ex B6 vs B12 vs B Complex? Otherwise, I'm... -

ARCHIVED Vitamin B Supplements
WinterSong posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I just got back from my 3 month check up with my doctor. I asked him about getting tested for vitamin deficiencies. He referred me to my primary care doctor but said that if I take a gluten free multi-vitamin every day (which I do) that should be enough. For those of you who read my other post, I've been experiencing a lot of anxiety lately, and a few... -
ARCHIVED False Negative Biopsy Results?
WinterSong replied to mollymoo's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You may not have been consuming enough gluten to test positive. I think that most people who go on a gluten challenge to get retested have to eat something like 4 pieces of bread a day. That being said, yes there is a percentage of Celiacs who will test a false negative. Blood tests have a 20% false negative rate. I'm not sure what it is with biopsies... -
ARCHIVED Negative Bloods - Miserable And Don't Know What To Do
WinterSong replied to Sika's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
That's a tough situation. All of your symptoms do sound very much like Celiac. I guess I was one of the lucky ones(?) who tested very positive for blood tests and biopsy. But you could still have it - remember about 20% of Celiacs test as a false negative. There are also forms of gluten intolerance that don't show up on Celiac panels (I'm convinced one of... -
ARCHIVED Any Low-Carb Vegan Or Vegetarians Here? Advice To gluten-free Newb?

I miss seitan, too. It's the one thing I can't make gluten free. But it's a small price to pay to feel better. -

WinterSong replied to Jenniferxgfx's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
