  1. Thanks for the tip! I'll have to try it out. My favorite Italian place in the city is Bistango. Nearly their entire menu can be made gluten free, and they have amazing desserts
  2. I got my blood tests redone at three months gluten free, and my doctor warned me that some people don't see any difference at all until they reach six months, so at least you're seeing progress. I know it's frustrating. My doctor was shocked when my levels (which were quite high at 300+) dropped to 53.1. Then after another three months I was disappointed...
  3. Huh. Apparently the forum deleted the link. Oh well. Search amazon for Nutribiotic Vegan Rice Protein Powder Vanilla and you'll find it.
  4. I wasn't getting enough protein in my diet either, so I decided to drink a small protein shake every morning before breakfast and whenever else during the day that I felt like I was lacking. I use Vanilla Brown Rice protein powder. A small spoonful mixed in water is only about 55 calories and 12 grams of protein, so I don't use it as a meal replacement. I...
  5. Hope you feel better soon!
  6. There's lots of good advice on here already. I'm a singer, as well, and acid reflux is one of my big symptoms. I know it's horrible - it feels like my vocal chords are on fire, and it is difficult to support my sound when I'm feeling really bloated. My reflux went away shortly after going gluten free, but it's also one of the main signs that I've been...
  7. The cookies were amazing! He loved them! He said that I really outdid myself and they were even better than last year's (which were regular gluten-filled cookies). It made me so happy. Baking cookies is one of my favorite holiday traditions, so I really wanted everything to come out well for my first gluten-free Christmas. Btw, my sister said that...
  8. I love reading the "get it" stories. I though I found someone who understood, but alas not really. I was at a restaurant with a new group of friends, and one of the girls and I were talking about vegetarian foods. I said that I used to love seitan but can't eat it anymore since I was diagnosed. She said she couldn't have it either because she was gluten intolerant...
  9. I set out to make the perfect batch of gluten free Christmas cookies for my boyfriend. I had a great recipe and did everything right....almost. As I was putting the dough into the fridge I realized that I accidentally used baking soda instead of baking powder. Under a time constraint I began to get upset. But then I called my sister who is a baker, and she...
  10. How about non-cut out ones - in the fridge, too? I think I'm going to make a batch of almond/dried cherry cookies as well
  11. Great thank for the advice! I would normally refrigerate them overnight but this is my first time baking gluten-free gingerbread men. For normal butter/christmas cookie cut outs should I do the same?
  12. I'm planning on baking gingerbread cookies next week and have a recipe from "1,000 Gluten Free Recipes" by Carol Fenster. It says to put the dough in the fridge to chill for two hours. My question - because of time issues, if I make the dough wednesday morning would it be okay to bake the cookies thursday morning? Does anyone have any experience with...
  13. My very favorite is Bistango - amazing pizza, Italian and dessert! Nearly the entire menu can be made gluten free, and the owner of the restaurant is so sweet. Definitely put that on your list for next time. Also, Lilly and Loo and Nice Matin are wonderful.
  14. I would be very skeptical about this, and even if it does make it past clinical trials that won't be for years. If it's only your first few days gluten free, remember that even though it seems hard right now it does get easier with time (especially as you really start to feel better).
  15. I'm sure it will be a lot of fun, and I am beyond ecstatic and grateful to be spending the holidays with them. I just hope I won't have to explain Celiac a dozen times to people who ask. I don't want his family to think it's a major issue when it's really something that I can manage just fine.
  16. Okay, so I'm going over to my boyfriend's house for Christmas. I had a great plan for dinner - bring my own stuffing supplies and cook whatever vegetables and meat seperately in parchment paper. I'd bring gluten-free cookies and chocolate for dessert for everyone. However, I just learned that his family tradiationally does a roaming dinner with their friends...
  17. Hi everyone! I just wanted to share a discovery that helped me a bunch. Short back story: I was having a problem with loose/watery stools. My doctor said that's common with Celiac but that he wanted to do a colonoscopy to make sure nothing was seriously wrong. I was very opposed to getting that test for various reasons and decided to wait to see if the...
  18. "1,000 Gluten Free Recipes" by Carol Fenster. My grandmother got it for me when she found out about my diagnosis, and I'm loving it. I've made some of the bread, and it's turned out excellent. So many recipes, I don't think I'll ever get through them all! Definitely check it out.
  19. One of my friends is a self diagnosed gluten intolerant, and we went gluten free within the same week of each other. I invited her over for dinner, and we're having our first gluten-free Thanksgiving Pretty simple menu, but I'm excited: Steamed vegetables Mashed potatos Turkey breast Gluten free sage stuffing I'm still debating on the...
  20. Hi everyone! I'm getting ready for Christmas and have Wilton red and green sprinkles that I used pre-diagnosis. Hoping that I could still use them, I called Wilton. They said that they are gluten free, but there is gluten at the facility. Does anyone here use Wilton sprinkles? Have you reacted to it? (Also, fyi I called Betty Crocker as well, and their...
  21. Hi everyone! Thanksgiving is coming up, and I've started looking around for gluten free stuffing. I did a search and I found a bunch of awesome looking recipes on this site, but does anyone know of a good pre-made stuffing mix? And where I might be able to get it (ie Whole Foods)? Otherwise I may try making my own stuffing out of some Udi's bread I have...
  22. Six months ago my tTg was 300+ and off the charts (less than 15 is normal). I shocked my doctor when my tTg went down to 53.1 after just three months of being gluten free (he said sometimes it can take 6 months to see any difference at all). I just got the results from my 6 month blood test - 30.9. I was a little disappointed that they only went down...
  23. I just got back from my vacation to Las Vegas and wanted to share my excellent food experiences! My father flew my sister and I there from across the country to celebrate our birthdays (she just turned 21). I
  24. This is upsetting
  25. Thanks everyone for the advice! I think I'm going to hold off on it. I'm only in my mid-twenties, and I'm not experiencing any of those complications like blood or mucus in my stool. My doctor last time said that he wanted to make sure nothing else was wrong. He didn't say that there was something specific that he thought was imperative that he look for with...
