  1. I know this is the teenaged section but the subject heading caught my eye. My son, 16, is having these same symptoms. A few months ago he was diagnosed with ulcers and I asked the dr. about celiac or gluten intolerance and the dr. said "that's a whole lot more effort" (to diagnose) and wouldn't do anything about it. Have you all been tested or have...
  2. I found out the dizziness wasn't from being glutened. I KNEW I'd been extremely careful! It's from my RA medicine. That's one of the top side effects, that and diarrhea I'm feeling very good this morning, husband said I'm "buzzing". I feel that way when I'm completely gluten free. I have so much energy it's annoying! It's pretty sad when I start...
  3. true, true. I haven't acquired a taste for those gluten free treats though. I know a lot of people love 'em! I have to drive about 70 miles to buy them so for me, they're not worth it (my waistline appreciates that too )
  4. I LIKE eating this way! I eat a lot of fruits, vegetables, meats, and even some dark chocolate now and then Once I got past my stubbornness of not having "treats" (dinner rolls, occasional cake, etc.), I found that I felt better than I have in many, many years. It's not that hard at all if you stay away from processed foods and eat foods the way nature...
  5. almond butter with chocolate chips fruit smoothie with fresh apple juice, banana, blueberries, strawberries, yogurt big juicy steak baked potato with butter and sour cream I think I"m hungry
  6. son got his call today, not only did he get a part in the play, he got 3 parts! Tomorrow we start "the drive". We got around 7 inches of snow today. It's one of the prettier snows we've had in years. It's not dreadfully cold either, it's one of those snows that you want to go out and walk in it. I must have been glutened cuz I've been having those...
  7. Karite lip balm is excellent. My son's teenaged friend came over and was using chapstick (alcohol!) and had horrible chapped lips. I gave him a karite lip balm and by the next day, he had no signs of chapped lips. I found his chapstick in my trash!
  8. I'm a redhead and so was my grandmother on my Dad's side, which is where the celiac is dominant. We are of Irish and German heritage.
  9. that's interesting. I also have mitral valve prolapse, so did my Dad. In addition, I have rheumatoid arthritis, hypoglycemia, hypothyroid, fibromyalgia. My dr. told me all these conditions often go together. what fun!
  10. Well, we're gearing up for a busy spring. Son just got a call-back from the theater. He'll be in at least two if not three big productions this spring. This means about 150-160 miles driven every single day from now until late April. I'm doing well with my diet but I'm a little under the weather. I don't have the stuff everyone else is fighting...
  11. I gave some of the unopened gluten containing food to a food bank, and then some of it I gave to my son's teenaged friends, some I sent to work with hubby. It didn't take long to get rid of it. For lunches we pack chicken salad or tuna salad in a tupperware dish and pack a fork with it. Alongside that we usually have some raw carrots, celery with nutbutter...
  12. Today the temperatures in the 50's. The forecast is for ice Friday and snow Saturday. That wouldn't be bad except I have to drive 160 miles + on Saturday. The wind is very strong today and that is making Abby (long-haired miniature dachshund) very nervous. She paces and growls and then crawls on our laps and shivers from nerves, then paces and growls...
  13. Everyone is sick here but me! Hubby has tummy troubles and headcold, son has the headcold. I'm stuffed-up but no big deal. I think I'm avoiding this so far because my system is so much stronger, even with the dmards. My diet has been really good, my energy is better, my mood is definitely better. I sleep more soundly and wake rested. Everything seems...
  14. I'm feeling very good. DH has been so wonderful about my diet now that he understands some of the consequences. That makes it much easier to cook and have him suggest meals. I have been cooking two meals the last couple of nights because h and s wanted things that had wheat in them. They haven't hassled me about eating "their" meal at all. H went to...
  15. no gas, no depression, no anxiety, less bloat. all within a day or two.
  16. Today was nice and laid back. Last nights soy sauce left no ill will on the day and today's eating has been great. I started my low carb diet again today, I've been eating too many fruits lately, and I feel good tonight. I've had cheese, cucumbers, red peppers, roasted chicken, some gluten-free sausage, lots of tea, green beans with bacon and onion...
  17. My Dad's family has a huge history of ulcers and celiac. My uncle died from untreated celiac that basically destroyed his insides. My Dad had ulcers since childhood as well as kidney cancer, lung cancer, prostate cancer, and liver cancer. He never got tested but now, seeing my symptoms and knowing all his (extreme gas, gerd, anemia, etc), and knowing most...

    New Year's Eve

Well, today I am 44. It's been a quiet birthday. We've had maybe 3 inches of snow and it's really cold. Dh and Ds got me 1/2 season of Center Ice which will kick in January 8. I'm looking forward to that. I also got a Loreena McKennett celiac disease and a nintendo ds game, tombraider. Brother #1 called to wish me a happy birthday but then we got to...
  20. I do realize that but on days when my ra is really bad, my jaw swells up and I have to drink liquids. If the designer whey comes ready made I could handle that but on bad days, I can't use my hands much. Does it come in cans or bottles? Rusla, I've been waiting for the skinny fairy for a few decades now...she still hasn't shown up!
  21. Don't know how yet, I think hubby and son have something planned but they're not telling what it is!
  22. that would make sense then. About 10 years ago I went on a low carb diet and felt fantastic, my depression and anxieties went completely away. I *thought* it was because of getting rid of all the carbs and the blood sugar swings (I'm sure that was part of it) but I know now that it was mostly because I got rid of the gluten.
  23. I am feeling good today! I started the day with a fruit smoothie, lunch was some leftover shrimp (no seasonings ) that I had made into a stir-fry last night. Snack was almond butter and dinner is going to be baked potato and not sure what protein. I have no stomach pains today, no depression or anxiety. I threw away the shrimp seasoning. That's the...
  24. I haven't read the book but I know from personal experience that depression and anxiety is a HUGE problem for me when I've been glutened. I was on zoloft for a while until I went gluten-free. gluten-free diet did more for me than zoloft ever did. I have heard from others that have had the same issues and there's a thread on here about anxieties and...
